The Sunshine Day Nursery NGH is situated within the grounds of the Northern General Hospital.

The nursery was graded as 'Good' by OFSTED in January 2023.

It provides high quality childcare with a discounted rate for staff working for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and all other NHS organisations (excluding GP surgeries).

The nursery offers 30hrs funding for those who are eligible, is registered for Tax Free Childcare and offers any Trust employees a Salary Sacrifice Scheme which enables them to make big savings on the full amount of their childcare.

The nursery opens at 6.30am and is open until 7.00pm should users require it.

All meals are provided by the Trust and are devised in partnership with dieticians who ensure meals are nutritious.

My son has attended Sunshine Day Nursery from the age of 1-3 and has transitioned through two rooms. All staff members that we have encountered are extremely friendly, enthusiastic, approachable and genuinely care about the children. With their care and support, my son has overcome a speech delay, and
we have watched in amazement as he’s grown in confidence from a very shy boy who didn’t want to communicate or interact with his peers, to one who now comes running out at home time giggling with a huge smile on his face. As a healthcare professional myself, I cannot fault the measures that were put in place during the pandemic to safeguard the nursery, the staff worked extremely hard to still
provide an outstanding service in unprecedented times. I cannot fault Sunshine Day Nursery. Thank you.

My daughter has been going to Sunshine Day Nursery for the last two years and is now leaving for school. The best decision I ever made was sending her to this nursery; she used to cry at first, but the staff were amazing - not only did they comfort her, but they also made me feel at ease too. They reassured
me and said I could call whenever I wanted, which I was so happy with as it was the first time leaving her, I felt anxious too. She's now thriving with confidence, and she's made lots of new friends. She always comes out in a brilliant mood with lots to tell me about her day and can't wait to go back the next day. I couldn't recommend this nursery enough. My little boy is 8 weeks old, and I'll be putting his name down too. Thank you for everything! Truly an amazing nursery with brilliant staff.

My daughter has been at Sunshine Day nursery since March 2020 and has thoroughly enjoyed her time there. The nursery team are very supportive and nurturing, helping to promote independence from a young age and encouraging her to become a social and inquisitive individual.
The nursery has been flexible
and accommodating to my various changing working patterns and requests for additional days.
Being an NHS staff member, there has been the added bonus of being able to pay through salary sacrifice.

Our son has been at Sunshine Day Nursery since he was 10.5-months-old. We have had a great nearly 4-years, with each room (age group) providing superb care.
Our son has learned so much during his time at Sunshine, and he looks forward to his nursery days. The staff are all friendly and approachable
and always go above and beyond to support the children in their care.
The option to have extra hours (subject to a suitable staff-to-children ratio being met) on the odd occasion to cover extra work commitments has been invaluable.

My son has been attending nursery for the last 3 years, moving through rooms and key workers. He has thrived in the care, and from his first day, he has been nurtured and encouraged to be himself. Staff have allowed him to develop his interests whilst encouraging him to try new things and challenge
himself. We are happy with all the hard work, which has clearly gone into helping prepare him for school in what must have been a really difficult year, but more importantly, we are happy to pick up a confident, happy boy with a smile on his face and stories to tell at the end of each day. Thank you for having so much fun with him!

My little boy started when he was 11-month- old; he’s now 5 and attends the holiday club.


He absolutely loved going to nursery. All the staff are amazing, friendly and went out of their way to ensure his needs and wishes were met at all times, as well as ensuring his development was continuing to

progress alongside establishing amazing relationships with him.


The activities are fun, appealing and inviting, yet challenging and stimulating! All of the staff go above and beyond to ensure parents and children are happy, safe and listened to.


The nursery supported my sons dairy intolerance in the baby room and also was amazing in supporting us as a family with regards to overcoming eating habits by providing a wide range of choices in meals to encourage his fear of food and advice we followed at home too. The food provided by the nursery is appetising with zero added salt in all meals and varied.

Our son attended Sunshine nursery for the past 3-years. The staff have been very helpful and friendly every step of the way. They respected our beliefs and treated our child with kindness and consideration. Stringent measures were introduced to keep our child safe during the pandemic, and due to these
measures, we were all safe, and our son never missed out. Our son feels confident and able to express himself freely. We are immensely grateful to the staff and management of Sunshine.

Have had both sons attend this setting for a combined total of 8 years, both received excellent care and support from the various staff members including key workers.
Both made good progress and were settled and felt safe while attending. Regular meetings were arranged for review and to discuss transitions
into new rooms and eventually school.
The staff were friendly environment was well equipped indoors and outdoors.

An excellent place for school children to grow and learn. The staff really nurture the children and accept they don't all develop at the same pace.
My child took a long time to come out of his shell and be willing to talk to his teachers, but through their patience and perseverance, he became more
confident and trusting. I cannot thank the staff enough for the care they have shown my child.

My daughter absolutely loves going to nursery, she is always keen to go in the morning. The staff are lovely and friendly and you can tell they adore the children.


My only slight complaint is sometimes they come home looking rather bedraggled. I appreciate they are toddlers and messy play is good.

But it they are covered in food/paint it would be nice if they were changed into their spare outfit. This always happened in the baby room but never seems to happen in the toddler room unless they are wet.

My daughter has been at this nursery for only 6 weeks and although she cried a lot at the start she's starting to settle in now. The staff have been amazing. Really helpful, nice and friendly. All the staff say hello from the other teachers to the kitchen staff. It really feels like a happy place! My
daughter seems to be learning lots while being there. From sharing toys to almost walking, I definitely feel being in a safe and caring environment has brought her along.

My eldest daughter came to this nursery and now my youngest is now attending, I have found this nursery to be a lovely place for a child's first start before school.
The staff are genuine and approachable especially for those nervous about leaving their little ones. The nursery appears to have a brilliant
attitude towards educating these little minds. Both my children have been characters to look after and it's been a real pleasure to know the staff also appreciate the same individuality that most parents see in their children. The environment is warm and welcoming and I would recommend to anyone looking for a lovely place for their children to start.

Can't fault the staff or nursery they have been excellent. The staff are great and are always so supportive to not only the children but parents too. They have done wonders with both my children and even put in a referral for my son which was great and worked with him to help bring him on. The nursery
is outstanding with the care and attention they give and I would recommend these to anyone thinking of sending their children there.

We have used Sunshine Day Nursery since September 2014 when our son was 6 months old. I highly recommend the facility as the staff are wonderful and so friendly that it now feels like we are extended family. The nursery is very supportive through weaning and potty training and our son loves spending
time with his friends at Sunshine - we can't say enough good things about it!!

I was always in two minds whether or not nursery would be the right place for my son until I visited Sunshine Day Nursery.


The staff are absolutely fantastic from working with the children to helping parents and always lending a listening ear.


My son currently attends this nursery and first arrived

a few days after his 1st birthday.


He came on ability wise and socially in leaps and bounds. They keep a record of all progress he makes and hold regular parents evenings for you to be told all about their current achievements and for parents to also discuss any worries.


I really cannot rate this nursery enough, the ideas for playtime activities are unreal, the nursery staff really go to extra lengths when it comes to playtime.


My son now sadly leaves in August to start his new school in September and I’m truly sad for him to be leaving. My son has been cared for and made to feel safe in his nursery from day one and I’ll always be truly grateful to all staff there.

My little boy has been attending this nursery since the age of 8 months, he is now 2 and a half years old. He has been looked after extremely well since he started in the baby room and in the current room he is in. He thrives and learning a lot through play and all the activities there. We are updated
regularly on his progress when we pick him up and also during parents evening. The staff are very caring and understand my child's needs/ likes/ dislikes. Any move to the next room for the older age group is done in a very sensitive manner and well planned. I highly recommend this nursery!

Kimberley Marshall

Job Title: Principal Joined: 2001

My names is Kim Marshall and I have worked at the NGH Sunshine Day Nursery for over 20 years doing various different roles before securing the role of Nursery Principal in 2019.


I have a variety of different qualifications ranging from NNEB level 3 in Nursery Nursing to BA Honours and Early Years Professional status.


I am the named person for Safeguarding and also have a full Paediatric First Aid qualification.
