The Sunshine Day Nursery NGH is situated within the grounds of the Northern General Hospital.

The nursery was graded as 'Good' by OFSTED in January 2023.

It provides high quality childcare with a discounted rate for staff working for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and all other NHS organisations (excluding GP surgeries).

The nursery offers 30hrs funding for those who are eligible, is registered for Tax Free Childcare and offers any Trust employees a Salary Sacrifice Scheme which enables them to make big savings on the full amount of their childcare.

The nursery opens at 6.30am and is open until 7.00pm should users require it.

All meals are provided by the Trust and are devised in partnership with dieticians who ensure meals are nutritious.

Our son began attending the nursery in January this year and he has had a really pleasant experience so far. He always looks forward to going to preschool. The staff are very professional, excellent communicators, providing us with a report on his activities at the end of each day. They are very hardworking,
providing real-time updates in his news feed. The nursery environment is always very clean and free of hazards, they don't compromise on safety. In addition, the children are provided with nutritious and healthy food to help with their growth and development. Prior to joining, he struggled with his speech, but now he speaks very clearly without stuttering and has improved in his use of vocabulary. Our son has also developed a strong interest in painting as a result of his nursery experience. He will surely miss it there and take fond memories of the nursery to his new school. We are very satisfied with the fundamental knowledge our boy has received at Sunshine Day Nursery.

All the staff are very kind and patient ensuring the children have a range of activities daily, communication with parents is great, via email is great, and everything is communicated well.
My daughter loves the staff and has made some lovely friends who will be moving on to school with her.

Absolutely an amazing nursery, my daughter is always happy and looks forward to seeing the staff in the morning. She is always clean and happy when I collect her. The staff love their job and I can tell as my daughter is always happy, so are the staff, really friendly and happy feel. I've got three

Sunshine Day Nursery have looked after both of my girls for throughout their baby, toddler and preschool development. The staff are an absolute credit to the nursery and have always been so friendly, caring and professional. The nursery has always been able to accommodate some flexibility when I have
requested additional sessions for my kids. They have wonderful resources from indoor sand and water play, painting and imaginative play, to outdoor spaces which are used in good weather. My kids really have loved coming to nursery and the location at the local hospital has made it so convenient for working parents to pick up and drop off within the working day. My eldest daughter looks forward to attending the holiday club at Sunshine Day Nursery, where she enjoys being a bit independent with a small sum of money at the tuck shop, meeting new friends, being creative, watching movies and going on amazing trips with the dedicated staff.

Both of our little ones attend Sunshine, with our eldest leaving this month after nearly 4 years. The environment is friendly and fun as well as caring and nourishing. They have a great way of nurturing each child’s individuality and letting them be themselves. I have always felt my children were in
safe hands and have developed good relationships with staff and other children. The staff are also understanding of dietary requirements and medical conditions with good record keeping. Regular updates are given on our children's development and progress.
My eldest is sad to be leaving they have enjoyed it so much, it really has been a home away from home for them.

The most amazing nursery. My little boy came here from being 2 up until leaving for reception and is diagnosed with ASD and is also nonverbal and nothing was ever too much, they supported me all the way, could never thank all the staff enough.

My little girl absolutely loved coming to this nursery. We had a bad experience with a previous nursery she used to attend, and all the staff at Sunshine completely turned this around for us. All of the staff are so lovely and professional, and the nursery setting is brilliant. My little girl has really

My son has been at Sunshine Day Nursery since he turned one, and I returned to work. I looked around a couple of other nurseries that were manic and loud, and then I visited Sunshine and couldn’t believe how calm and quiet it was. Throughout his time at nursery, he has been so looked after and has loved
his teachers in every class. I’ll be so sad for him to leave and go to school this year. I really can’t recommend this nursery enough for the care they give the children and the peace of mind you have as a parent knowing your child is being so well looked after when you’re not there.

Sunshine has looked after my 21-month-old daughter since I went back to work when she was 14 months old. Her key workers have been outstanding. My daughter was upset at most of the drop-offs, to begin with, but now happily toddles in without saying goodbye! I would recommend Sunshine to all parents.

The staff have been kind and caring over the years, and I can't thank them enough. Nothing is too much trouble. I had anxiety about going back to work, but I didn't need to. This nursery took really good care of my daughter and made the transition easier. I've always found the office to be helpful,
and they sort out any problem you may have. Over the years, my daughter's social skills have improved as well as her overall learning. My daughter loves her nursery experience and all the staff.

My child went to this nursery from age one to three and a half. Never had any issues with the staff or the nursery.
Caring teachers - friendly, happy environment.
I could see how much my child was learning and developing throughout all her time here, as she would tell me herself.
The only one
niggle would be if the teachers regularly updated us parents on what my child could do with improving on eg, writing, spelling, etc - so we could help her more at home.

My son had a wonderful two years in Raindrops and Rainbows, from May 2019 to June 2022. The staff were welcoming, kind and nurturing. He really enjoyed attending, loving his days there, full of smiles.
The staff were very communicative with us as parents, and despite having to cope with difficulties
during Covid and us not being able to go into the building, they still kept us regularly informed about his progress.
The nursery developed a mobile app during our time there so we could see photos and see when he napped, had a nappy change and what he ate, which was really nice to be able to read.
If ever we needed to change his days or hours, the management were very swift to respond and very understanding and accommodating.
Our son only spent three months in preschool before moving to another venue, so I cannot comment on the preschool provision.
I would highly recommend this nursery for up to 3 years prior to pre-school.

My daughter started at the nursery at one year old, so has been through all three room stages; what a pleasure it has been sending her here. I work at the trust/hospital, so it made me feel very comfortable knowing we were both on the same site. My daughter has slight additional needs, and every single
staff member has gone above and beyond to make her feel comfortable and at ease whilst being in the nursery. Her confidence has grown so much, and she absolutely adores every single worker in there. She will miss it so much, including myself, but the dreaded time has come for her to transition to big school. Thank you, Sunshine, for giving my daughter the best three years whilst being in your care.

My daughter spent six months at this nursery after her's was unexpectedly closed. The staff were fantastic from the initial phone call to see if they had a place. Really efficient at getting paperwork to us and getting her started as quickly as possible. My daughter absolutely loves going; she adores
all the staff and has had a fantastic experience all through her time there. She will really miss it when she leaves for school. Communication is excellent between parents and staff, and they have always been really friendly and helpful. Brilliant nursery.

My son has had the pleasure of attending Sunshine Day Nursery for nearly four years. He has thoroughly enjoyed his time there. Always excited to go and has made some wonderful friends.
The staff have always been really friendly, approachable and helpful. They continually keep us informed of the progress
my son is making as well as sharing all the great activities that he has taken part in. They have given high quality care and excellent educational skills.
There is a good selection of food and snacks available that my son really enjoys. They also catered for his dietary needs when he had an egg allergy.
The nursery has been very flexible and accommodating towards my working pattern and any additional days that have been needed.
Recently they have started using an app to allow you to see updates throughout the day and see pictures of the activities that they have taken part in, which I really like.
I would highly recommend Sunshine Day Nursery.

My names is Kim Marshall and I have worked at the NGH Sunshine Day Nursery for over 20 years doing various different roles before securing the role of Nursery Principal in 2019.


I have a variety of different qualifications ranging from NNEB level 3 in Nursery Nursing to BA Honours and Early Years Professional status.


I am the named person for Safeguarding and also have a full Paediatric First Aid qualification.
