The Sunshine Day Nursery NGH is situated within the grounds of the Northern General Hospital.

The nursery was graded as 'Good' by OFSTED in January 2023.

It provides high quality childcare with a discounted rate for staff working for Sheffield Teaching Hospitals and all other NHS organisations (excluding GP surgeries).

The nursery offers 30hrs funding for those who are eligible, is registered for Tax Free Childcare and offers any Trust employees a Salary Sacrifice Scheme which enables them to make big savings on the full amount of their childcare.

The nursery opens at 6.30am and is open until 7.00pm should users require it.

All meals are provided by the Trust and are devised in partnership with dieticians who ensure meals are nutritious.

My daughter (Oluwatoni) attended Sunshine Day Nursery from the age of two, and I must say she absolutely loved her time there. The teachers were incredibly caring, nurturing, and attentive, creating a warm environment where she felt safe, happy, and valued. She built wonderful memories and formed strong
bonds with both staff and friends.
Her time at the nursery played a significant role in her development. We noticed remarkable improvements in her communication and confidence, and her transition to reception has been smooth. We've received excellent feedback from her new school about her progress, which we strongly believe is credited to the strong foundation Sunshine Day Nursery provided.
Now that she has a younger brother, we have no hesitation in saying that he will certainly be attending Sunshine Day Nursery when the time comes.

Excellent nursery! I am very happy that I had my kids at Sunshine day nursery , first my son and second my twin girls they had a very good development they been so happy all days long. Thank you ,all the staff did a great job I really appreciate all of them.

My son has been coming to this nursery for a year now, and he really enjoys his time here. At first, he was quite upset and found it hard to settle, but the staff in Raindrops and Rainbows have been absolutely wonderful with both him and me. They took the time to understand what he likes, which made
a huge difference in helping him feel comfortable and happy. Their kind and supportive words were also a great comfort to me during what was a pretty emotional time.


The nursery itself is fantastic; there's so much for the children to do each day, and it's always clean and well cared for. I truly feel the staff go above and beyond in everything they do, they are great at their jobs and clearly care deeply about each child's well-being and development. Over the past year, I've seen so much progress in my son, and I'm incredibly grateful to all the staff for looking after him so well and making his days here so enjoyable.

Two of my daughters have been to Sunshine Day Nursery, and we've had nothing but positive experiences with both.
Our first daughter started when she was less than 12months old in 2019, and even throughout the COVID years the nursery was brilliant.
Now, our eldest daughter is weeks away from leaving
before starting school, and the experience she's had, has been as equally positive.
The staff are fantastic, and will keep you informed without been bombarded with needless, constant information.
Both of our daughters have both felt confident and ready for school when the time arrived, and the Sunshine Day Nursery has been a catalyst in this.
Their opening hours are also something that sets them apart from many other nurseries. We both work within the NHS, and so early starts and late finishes are common; the nurseries hours has made what can be a stressful part of child care, far less so.

My little boy will soon be 4 and has been attending this nursery since he was 1 years old, the fact that he wants to go to nursery says it all. All the staff are really friendly and nothing is too much. My little boy had to have an operation and they were brilliant at making adaptations to suit him
for his return. I have no worries leaving him in their care

Great nursery and environment for little ones. My daughter has been going since she was 11 months old. She has come on leeps and bounds with her confidence as well as her learning. I only hope she loves school as much when she starts in September.

My daughter has had a wonderful time at sunshine day nursery. She has attended since she was 1 year old and I know will really miss all the friends she has made there. The staff have been lovely in each room she's been in and she's always had a named worker that she has bonded with really well. The
management are always very responsive to any queries I have. They take really good care of the kids, we will miss coming to sunshine day nursery.

We've had a wonderful experience with my Sunshine Day nursery in NGH! The teachers are incredibly dedicated and have taken such great care of my little one. It's heartwarming to see how much she enjoys going to school every day-she's always excited and especially loves the food! The office staff are
also fantastic-always helpful and quick to respond to any queries or concerns. I'm sure my daughter will dearly miss all her teachers in PS1, especially one, who has made a lasting impression. We're so grateful for the care and attention she's received here!

We've had such a wonderful experience with this nursery! From the very first visit, the staff made us feel completely welcome and reassured.
Our daughter settled in quickly, thanks to the caring team who clearly love what they do. The communication has been excellent. We get regular updates, photos,
and detailed feedback about our child's day, which is so appreciated.
The curriculum is engaging and age-appropriate, with a great balance of educational activities, outdoor play, and creative time. We've noticed real growth in our child's social skills, confidence, and curiosity since starting here.
Most importantly, our daughter is always excited to go in the morning and comes home happy and full of stories of what she has done. We couldn't ask for more and highly recommend this nursery to any parents looking for a safe and supportive environment.

My little girl has attended Sunshine Day Nursery from the age of 1 until she will be leaving for school this summer. It's convenient for work and I absolutely can't recommend it enough! The first day she came home was the day she started to run across the room and from that first milestone so many more
have been reached. She's totally flourished at the nursery made lasting friendships and her bond with the staff is so lovely to watch particularly her keyworker in pre school they have had a lovely bond which as a working parent is such a relief to know they are happy and safe while im not around. I know when she leaves in august tears will be shed because we both love Sunshine day Nursery it will remain a special memory for all the family and she would not be the confident little girl she is today without it!

Our daughter has been at the nursery from 9 months through to 2 1/2 years having had a great experience. All staff made her welcome and settled her in well, also settling us in as parents. Very calm and caring atmosphere as well as encouraging and fostering development in confidence, communication and
motor skills. This goes for both rooms we've experienced (Raindrops and Rainbows) but the support shown by Raindrops as a baby room was second to none.

What can I say, Sunshine Day Nursery has been amazing! My daughter has been here since she was 11 months old and she has transitioned through all the rooms and is now leaving at 4 years old. I think the fact that she role-plays nursery the whole time she is at home shows how much she enjoys it there!
The staff are friendly and caring and I've always felt 100% confident leaving my daughter there. The staff always give detailed updates and I enjoy seeing what my daughter is doing via the photos on the app. She is always doing fun activities and the staff make great efforts with events such as the Christmas party!
I have also found this nursery great value for money and the staff go to great lengths to accommodate working parents who may need to swap days etc.
My daughter has learned so much here! I honestly can't recommend this nursery enough and I know that my daughter's last day will be an emotional one for us both!

Sunshine Day Nursery has been brilliant. My little girl has attended here for 3 years; spending a year in each room. The staff are so caring and attentive, they take the time to get to know each child. Over the years, they have improved her confidence so much and provided her with the skills she needs
to start school. She has made so many friends there, and it really is a lovely place for her to attend.
The hours are also brilliant for a working parent, and from booking to paying and funding forms, the staff make everything really easy.
Would recommend Sunshine Day Nursery as a fun, caring and vibrant place.

Both of my sons have attended the nursery from 1 year old up until the eldest who is just about to leave to start school. Throughout this time, all of the staff have been supportive and caring and have encouraged them to be themselves, helping them to blossom into the clever and loving little boys that
they are.
The staff take great care with my youngest's dietary requirements, ensuring there are options available for him, I have always had great confidence that they are taking care of his needs at all times. I am also so grateful for the support with my eldest son whose lack of confidence often impinged on his development, since being in Preschool 1, he has come on leaps and bounds - he is now more than ready to start school in September, although he will be sad to say bye to the lovely staff and all the friends he has made.
I would definitely recommend this amazing nursery!

Our son joined Sunshine in February 2021 as a 'covid baby'. He had had limited experience engaging with peers or people other than immediate family due to the pandemic.
I think back now to my worries about nursery and they were unfounded. Sunshine Day nursery have been phenomenal from day one. They
took our son under their wing and nurtured him into the vibrant and confident 4 year old he is now. He has some sensory needs which have been identified during his time at nursery and he has been encouraged and supported with these every step of the way. The staff have recommended and implemented support and changes for him to ensure that nursery and preschool continue to be a positive environment.
The staff celebrate his successes as if he was family. It is hard to put into words just how clearly their care about his physical and emotional wellbeing. He is going to miss Sunshine so much when he starts school, he has developed an amazing foundation for his future education and friendships.

I have loved this nursery they have cared for my child and helped him flourish.
I can tell the staff truly enjoy my child's presence and have really bonded with my son. They have catered to his needs in every way possible and I cannot say enough about the staff here. They are absolutely brilliant!
Especially in Rainbows where my child recently transitioned from, the ladies have been amazing I felt like my child was safe and cared for as though they were with a family member!

My names is Kim Marshall and I have worked at the NGH Sunshine Day Nursery for over 20 years doing various different roles before securing the role of Nursery Principal in 2019.


I have a variety of different qualifications ranging from NNEB level 3 in Nursery Nursing to BA Honours and Early Years Professional status.


I am the named person for Safeguarding and also have a full Paediatric First Aid qualification.
