Nursery staff are caring. My little girl feels comfortable with them, enjoys planned activities. The staff kept me updated with her progress.
My daughter really enjoys going to nursery. Her key workers and other staff always take a keen interest in her, even those that don’t work in her room. They seem to all know her by name. I work full time and I am at peace knowing my daughter is very well taken care of.
My son's been going here since he was 9 months old. He's outgoing, confident, communicate well with adults and children, he's creative and loves exploring. Children 1st @Sheffield has contributed tremendously to his development. Would recommend this nursery to my family and friends.
I couldn't recommend this nursery more. My oldest son went to this nursery before and now the little one is still there. The environment is nice and clean. Staff are friendly. The meals and snacks are fresh and plenty. It has a large garden for different groups of kids to play. The most important is this nursery teaches a lot and makes the kids ready for school. So the kids have full confidence to start a new life in school. It is a brilliant nursery.
The staff always friendly and seem to know our daughter even if they are not regularly in her room. Are currently being very supportive in potty training which is going very well! Our daughter loves nursery and her room staff we wouldn't put her anywhere else now!
They offer an online log so we are always up to date with what she is up to and what her next steps are.
The staff are fantastic, they always give useful feedback at pick up and are always willing to listen and help with any issues.
We are very pleased with our daughter's progress and can't rate the nursery highly enough.
My child has been attending Children 1st @ Sheffield for over a year and really enjoys her time there. The staff are friendly and welcoming and provide plenty of information to us about what activities she has done each day. I would definitely recommend this nursery to friends.
Very clean and the food looks great.
I feel the process of progressing children through the age-appropriate rooms is excellently managed with my oldest being more sensitive (and therefore slower to move through) than my youngest.
My daughter has been going to Children 1st @Sheffield since she was 10 months (she is now 4). She loves it here. It is a lovely, nurturing environment and the staff are ace!
We've now had two children at this nursery and love the setting. I know that my children are in a safe, friendly place that really helps them to develop well.
Excellent nursery. Used for both my daughters, the eldest now aged 7 years and my youngest, aged 1 year. Lovely caring staff. It's great that many of the staff that cared for my eldest are still at the nursery and will be looking after her sister.
My child is always happy to go to the nursery. Staff are caring and well trained. Plenty of activities to keep the kids engaged.
My daughter joined the Jemima room at age 1 and immediately made a fantastic attachment to her key worker. She settled in so well and I felt completely confident in the care she was receiving. Communication is good with parents, the food is cooked fresh on site and a varied, balanced menu provided, activities seem well planned and the outdoor space is great. I particularly like that they put the babies down to nap in prams/cots outside.
She is now in Bobtails and again, has a great attachment to the staff in there and has a great time. I remain very happy with the nursery. She has come on so much and I'm really grateful to the professional, caring and lovely team (including those on reception, who always give a friendly welcome and know the children by name - quite some achievement!).
I really like the book staff use to update parents daily, as well as the app to share fun moments and developmental achievements. I would strongly recommend this nursery.
Excellent facilities and staff. Our daughter has advanced so fast with her development since joining in May 2017. She has become very confident and always skips into nursery with a smile on her face.
I would strongly recommend this nursery to all parents.
We are always impressed with the standard of care, attention to detail, efforts made to care and develop both of our children. We have a child with special needs and find the nursery to be supportive, understanding and very hard working when it comes to catering for our individual needs.
The staff are so lovely - really enthusiastic and caring. They made us feel very welcome and took such good care of him as an individual that it made the transition back to work much easier for me as we knew he was in such good hands!
The activities are varied, the environment is great with some fantastic equipment. It has been wonderful for his development. He’s a very chatty little boy and is always so excited as he tells us what he’s been doing and which workers/children he has seen each day. He enjoys the food and the takeaway snacks at home time are a great idea. The staff are very friendly and it’s lovely to see staff interact with him even when he is not in their class/area.
We have been really impressed with the care he has received and we love being able to see what he’s been doing/learning via the website/app. I would definitely recommend this nursery to other parents.
I cannot praise the staff at Breedon House enough.
From the day we visited to view the nursery to when I dropped my son off this morning, they have shown the utmost care and love for my son. He always has a wonderful time at nursery, his development has come on leaps and bounds. As a working parent, it is so reassuring to know my son has the best of care on the days he is at nursery.
My daughter has had a very happy and positive experience and staff are very loving and caring. The nursery itself is a very bright and fun environment and the staff are supportive not only of your child but also to yourselves as parents.
Overall, highly recommend for everyone.
I am extremely happy with the level of care that my son receives while at nursery. He started in Puddleducks at 1 year old and I was extremely nervous about leaving him when I had not really left him even with family members before but after seeing how kind his Keyworker was and feeling encouraged to be able to call and see how he was getting on during the day, I soon felt more confident. I have found to date that in Puddleducks they really take the time to get to know your child, their likes and dislikes. All of the nursery nurses knew him and were calm and loving which is important with such small children.
He has now moved up a "class" to Bobtails and his development appears to be continuing and he is kept engaged and interested throughout the day.
The EY Log is lovely to be able to see them when you are not there.
Staff know and recognise you and know who your child is without asking.
It is a lovely place.

Meet the Team (1)

My Name is Deborah Thorne and I am the Early Years Nursery Manager for Children 1st @ Sheffield.
I have been working with children since the age of 16. I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 1993 gaining my N.N.E.B Diploma in Nursery Nursing.
I then worked as a nanny for almost 2 years having sole charge of two boys Edward and Thomas who are now 19 and 21.
I started work for Children 1st Day Nurseries in May 1996 when they purchased the nursery that I was currently working in. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to grow with the Nursery right from day one and have gained a vast amount of experience. I have worked my way up from Nursery Nurse opening the baby unit, to Room Leader then to Deputy Manager and finally on to Nursery Manager in 2000. I have worked with all ages of children and enjoy the challenges that working with different aged children bring but I especially love the Early Years age group and this has been my area of specialism for a number of years.
While I have been with Children 1st I have managed the Newark Nursery for 6 months working with the team and the new Nursery Manager to build up occupancy levels. I then managed St Peters and St Paul Nursery for 2 1/2 years which I really enjoyed as this took me out of my comfort zone and I grew in confidence and was able to develop my own skills. I then came back to the Sheffield Nursery (home) in May 2009 were I have resumed my role as Nursery Manager for the Peter Rabbits and Early Years.
Through my role as Nursery Manager I have worked with diverse cultures and families with different needs and expectations, this has given me the tools to enable me to meet their different needs and make a real difference to children's lives, one of my passions is to be able to offer high quality childcare for ALL children regardless of their status.
My role as Nursery Manager also enables me to work with children with Special Education Needs (SEN) and become a linchpin with families and other members of my Nursery Team, giving our children the best start to their nursery education regardless of their abilities or needs.
I have also built a strong team who I work very closely with and feel I am a good role model to all staff members. I am a qualified NVQ Assessor and gained my Level 4 in Childcare and Education, I enjoy this very much and hope to continue to support all the trainee Nursery Nurses that train with us.
I became a Nursery Manager by chance as I had no desire to become one, I was more than happy being a Nursery Nurse and enjoyed the role as key worker to my children but through a passion for my work and the investment of Margaret I was encouraged to move up the ladder. I enjoy the challenges that being a Nursery Manager brings and feel that over the last 15 years that I have worked for Children 1st Day Nurseries I have gained so much and been able to give so much back.
I believe in the ethos of Children 1st Day Nurseries and am fully committed to our mission statement of: ‘Leading the way, shaping the future’ and providing high quality day care and education, my role as a Nursery Manager enables me to ensure that the children who use our setting are receiving the very best and I can ensure the quality is there all of the time this is why I have stayed with Children 1st Day Nurseries and will continue to stay until I am old and grey (if you let me)
I like lots of things about Children 1st Day Nurseries - the dedication to our small babies that we insist on, the quality environments, the sleeping outside in proper prams, the play experiences that the teams offer, the drive and passion of our teams and the on going commitment that we have to achieving the best that we can be.
I always feel proud when I attend outside training events as I know that out provision is up there with the best.
I hope I inspire other Nursery Nurses to be passionate and proud of the work that we do, and encourage new families to make that brave first step of bringing their children to nursery for the first time to start the education of their children.
