Children 1st Sheffield Nursery School is located within easy reach of Sheffield city centre. It has been refurbished to offer a bright and spacious learning environment for children aged from birth to five years.

A dedicated and enthusiastic team of early years staff are fully trained and experienced to support the children's healthy growth and development. The nursery has high staff-to-child ratios to ensure each child receives high-quality care.

The age-appropriate rooms have 'free-flow' access to a spacious outdoor garden which has designed to maximise the potential for outdoor play in all weather conditions.

The nursery also provides plenty of extra learning opportunities including Funky Feet dance classes for children aged between two and five years and a sports skills class with Sheffield Wednesday community coaches.

Children 1st Sheffield also operates an 'out of school' club for children up to twelve years of age and offers fully grant funded places for children aged three and four years.

I am really pleased with the care my 22 month old receives at Children 1st @ Sheffield. The staff are kind, smart and really friendly. There are always loads of different activities and celebrations going on and the food is varied and healthy. The toys and rooms are good quality, well kept and clean
too.

An absolutely fantastic nursery! Staff are amazing and the facilities are excellent. The outdoor play area is great and the regular communication between staff and parents is brilliant. Would definitely definitely recommend this nursery.

Warm and friendly nursery. Our child is extremely happy and content here and loves coming to nursery. Credit to all the loving and kind staff. It's nice to see that nursery staff from other classes still interact with my daughter even when she has moved to the next group, especially a particular nursery
nurse who my daughter still regularly talks about fondly.

This nursery is extremely welcoming to both parents and children. when our daughter first started, they were great at allowing us to call during the day to check how she was and in fact this was encouraged to help put our minds at rest.


Seeing how much our daughter has developed since attending

nursery has been fantastic. Her speech is excellent and attending nursery has given her the opportunity to mix with other children and be involved in activities I would struggle to do at home.


We have been so impressed with the levels of care that we have just booked our second child into nursery and I will be much more at ease returning to work this time around knowing that she's in nursery with people I trust.

Our experience has so far been excellent, our son has been attending Children 1st @ Sheffield since the beginning of the year and he really enjoys it. I can see a difference in his behaviours and skills as he learns new things each day at nursery. We couldn't be more grateful to the team for making

Only positive things to say about the nursery. All staff are very friendly, informative and helpful. Our daughter has recently moved up rooms and they've made it an easy and enjoyable experience for her with no problems at all and she has settled in straight away. My son has been at this nursery for 16 months and loves it. He eats 3 well-balanced meals a day and healthy snacks. The range of activities that he takes part in is fantastic. I love the fact that everyday they have opportunity to go outside to play. He can take part in creative activities, play with
toys, or build a tower in free play time or sing songs or read books in group time. There is a such a variety of things for him to do. I never worry about leaving him when I head off to work. Every morning on the way there he talks about his friends that he is going to play with and his key worker which is a great sign. He's been in 3 rooms to date and all have been fantastic and tailored to his age group, meaning his development is focused. The key workers in every room have been fantastic and I would highly recommend this nursery.

We are extremely happy with Children 1st @ Sheffield. Our little boy started in the baby room and has now moved upstairs. Everyone has been brilliant with him. The nursery comes up with lots of fun activities and events such as farm house breakfast week, parties, water fun, singing, messy play. We are
confident leaving him in the happy, supportive and educational setting and know that he enjoys his time there and has lots of fun!

We initially visited Children 1st based upon a recommendation from a friend. Once we looked round, we knew that it was the perfect nursery for our son. He started when he was 9 months old and we have watched him thrive week upon week. He is a very active baby and requires a lot of stimulation. This
has been encouraged by his key worker and lots of different activities are set up for him throughout the day. Whilst he has built up a strong bond with his key worker, all of the staff in the baby room have taken a keen interest in him and therefore have created a very loving secure environment for him. The atmosphere is always extremely calm and the babies never go short of cuddles! My husband and I are so pleased that we chose Children 1st and we continue to watch our happy baby thrive!

The staff always happy and helpful. All my children have been very well cared for by this nursery and it has given them an excellent foundation to build on at school. I have always felt that my children were safe and I always get news about my daughter's day. She enjoys going and has a lot of affection
for the staff. She is progressing and developing well. Any issues are resolved quickly and without fuss. It is a calm and caring environment for the children.

I can't praise this nursery enough. All the staff are great, everyone makes you feel welcome and they really look after my 2 year old son when he is a bit upset that mama is leaving. He loves going and always says he has had a nice time. He learns new things each day. Great atmosphere, great setting,

My daughter thrives from the nursery environment with the carers and the children who she calls friends. She loves to attend nursery and it is never a problem for her to leave us. We also feel very happy with the care provided and feel that she is in a safe environment while we are at work. The food
provided is of a good standard also and my daughter loves her meals at nursery and is always excited to tell us what she has had.

My daughter started in 2012, left in 2015. Son started in 2014 and still attends. Cannot recommend this nursery enough. Both of my children are happy and confident. Staff are brilliant and cannot do enough. Facilities are amazing and up to date with the latest technology to enable progress and learning
to outstanding standards.

I find Children 1st really understanding, if I ever had a problem I feel comfortable speaking to them. They have found ways in the past to help me out in various ways. The quality of the staff is very high, the nursery is always clean and my boys are really enjoying the nursery. I really love the app
where I can check their development.

Deborah Thorne

Job Title: Manager - Early Years Joined: 1993

My Name is Deborah Thorne and I am the Early Years Nursery Manager for Children 1st @ Sheffield.


I have been working with children since the age of 16. I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 1993 gaining my N.N.E.B Diploma in Nursery Nursing.


I then worked as a nanny for almost 2 years having sole charge of two boys Edward and Thomas who are now 19 and 21.


I started work for Children 1st Day Nurseries in May 1996 when they purchased the nursery that I was currently working in. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to grow with the Nursery right from day one and have gained a vast amount of experience. I have worked my way up from Nursery Nurse opening the baby unit, to Room Leader then to Deputy Manager and finally on to Nursery Manager in 2000. I have worked with all ages of children and enjoy the challenges that working with different aged children bring but I especially love the Early Years age group and this has been my area of specialism for a number of years.


While I have been with Children 1st I have managed the Newark Nursery for 6 months working with the team and the new Nursery Manager to build up occupancy levels. I then managed St Peters and St Paul Nursery for 2 1/2 years which I really enjoyed as this took me out of my comfort zone and I grew in confidence and was able to develop my own skills. I then came back to the Sheffield Nursery (home) in May 2009 were I have resumed my role as Nursery Manager for the Peter Rabbits and Early Years.


Through my role as Nursery Manager I have worked with diverse cultures and families with different needs and expectations, this has given me the tools to enable me to meet their different needs and make a real difference to children's lives, one of my passions is to be able to offer high quality childcare for ALL children regardless of their status.


My role as Nursery Manager also enables me to work with children with Special Education Needs (SEN) and become a linchpin with families and other members of my Nursery Team, giving our children the best start to their nursery education regardless of their abilities or needs.


I have also built a strong team who I work very closely with and feel I am a good role model to all staff members. I am a qualified NVQ Assessor and gained my Level 4 in Childcare and Education, I enjoy this very much and hope to continue to support all the trainee Nursery Nurses that train with us.


I became a Nursery Manager by chance as I had no desire to become one, I was more than happy being a Nursery Nurse and enjoyed the role as key worker to my children but through a passion for my work and the investment of Margaret I was encouraged to move up the ladder. I enjoy the challenges that being a Nursery Manager brings and feel that over the last 15 years that I have worked for Children 1st Day Nurseries I have gained so much and been able to give so much back.


I believe in the ethos of Children 1st Day Nurseries and am fully committed to our mission statement of: ‘Leading the way, shaping the future’ and providing high quality day care and education, my role as a Nursery Manager enables me to ensure that the children who use our setting are receiving the very best and I can ensure the quality is there all of the time this is why I have stayed with Children 1st Day Nurseries and will continue to stay until I am old and grey (if you let me)


I like lots of things about Children 1st Day Nurseries - the dedication to our small babies that we insist on, the quality environments, the sleeping outside in proper prams, the play experiences that the teams offer, the drive and passion of our teams and the on going commitment that we have to achieving the best that we can be.


I always feel proud when I attend outside training events as I know that out provision is up there with the best.


I hope I inspire other Nursery Nurses to be passionate and proud of the work that we do, and encourage new families to make that brave first step of bringing their children to nursery for the first time to start the education of their children.
