Children 1st Newark Centre Nursery School is housed in a spacious and well resourced Georgian building in Newark-on-Trent.

The nursery provides the perfect opportunity for children to learn in small groups in a variety of indoor and outdoor learning environments, including a large garden.

Highly trained early years teachers care for children from birth to five years all year round, including student families and all other local families.

Staff ensure the children leave the nursery as confident individuals with a real enthusiasm for their next stage of development.

Since joining Children's 1st @Newark Town, my daughter has developed in so many ways. She is more confident and balanced and looks forward to going into nursery everyday. The nursery itself is a fun and bright environment and I think it provides the backdrop for more effective learning.

loves the teachers very much and the teachers are very approachable for parents.

I have been really impressed with Children 1st @ Newark. My little boy has food intolerances and they cater for his needs brilliantly. Any questions/concerns I have had have been responded to very satisfactorily.

I have a 3-year-old with some extra needs so I was unsure about putting him into a mainstream nursery, but I didn't need to be worried as he absolutely loves it. The nursery staff have been so kind and caring to both him, his younger brother and myself and my other half. They have worked very hard to
enable our son to access extra funding for one to one care and have filled in, no doubt, reams of paperwork so that they could be up to date with his medical needs training. The nursery rooms are absolutely beautiful and the garden has a lovely range of toys and areas. Thank you so much to all of the amazing staff. I have trust and faith in you.

I am extremely happy with Children 1st. Staff are always very friendly any helpful. My children have learnt so much, which will really help them by the time they start school. Also, there is a great variety of activities. My children absolutely love it here. I would highly recommend it.

My daughter has attended this nursery for 3 and a half years and I have been consistently pleased with the care she receives and the learning environment it gives her to develop in. The staff have been wonderful with her and I believe have helped her grow in confidence and have always made it a place
she looks forward to spending time in.

Newark Town is an excellent nursery. My child is very happy to attend and looks forward to seeing the staff and his friends. Staff are caring, friendly and interested in my child. My child's development has progressed very quickly due to time spent at Newark Town. The food is excellent; very nutritious
and my child enjoys eating it. I am very happy with the level of care my child receives.

Children's 1st - Newark Town is the best nursery I have seen. I spent a while looking for the right nursery, and as soon as I walked through the door I felt at ease. As we were shown around, all the staff showed enthusiasm for children's development and learning, whereas other nurseries in the area
I've been to it felt like it was a script. This nursery is everything I would want for my little girl, at 10months old I wanted to find a nursery that is a home away from home for her, a nursery that she will grow into.
Newark Town has so much to offer for her now and when she gets older, the rooms are furnished to an outstanding standard. For me the best part is being able to see her observations, pictures and videos whilst I am at work through an online app or website - this is something I've not seen a nursery do before and I love seeing how happy she is.
She has settled in to the nursery brilliantly and I cant thank the staff enough for everything they do for me and my little girl.

As soon as we walked into Children 1st Newark Town I knew that it was right for my daughter and right for us as parents. Our visit wasn't planned but the manager without hesitation, showed us around the nursery and explained the different areas and the philosophy of the nursery. There was a sense of
calm in the nursery which we hadn't experienced in other nurseries and which we knew would be right for our daughter. There is also a fabulous outdoor space which we were so impressed by. My daughter took a while to settle in but the staff were wonderfully patient and reassuring with my daughter (and me as a paranoid first time mum!) and I know that they always have my daughter's best interests at heart. She has come on so much since starting at Children 1st and I know that this is due to the range of activities, the interaction with other children and, most importantly, the care and the commitment of the staff. I have no hesitation in recommending Children 1st Newark Town to other parents.

Our little boy has been attending Newark Town children's first for nearly two years now after a recommendation from a friend and he enjoys it very much! The staff really are excellent; friendly and professional and I can go to work happy knowing that our little boy will be having a great day! He is
developing better social skills and also some really nice friendships which is lovely to see! In early years they have done a particularly good job teaching lots of new things in a really fun environment.

I now have both of my children attending a children 1st @ Newark town after the arrival of my second child. Previously my daughter attended the other children 1st nursery in the area. Both settings are amazing but second time round Newark Town with its in tow location was a winner for us. Both of our
children adore the nursery and all the staff are very welcoming. It makes leaving them on a daily basis a lot easier when they are so excited is a "nursery day". The facilities they have are amazing..my little boys room with Miss Emily has slide and ballpool in it and my little girl has her very own castle with in the early years unit. The have touch tables, iPads and outside they have a undercover area for rainy days and an amazing mud kitchen. The cook is fantastic everything is made with fresh fruits and vegetables and the children all get a snack bag to take home at the end of the day. Perfect for days when they children are there until late. The Manager is amazing she welcomes all the parents and even has time to help me gather all there things to leave. Pick this nursery and you won't be disappointed!

Katie Firth

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2023

Hello, my name is Katie Firth and I joined Children 1st in May 2023. I have been the Manager of Newark Town for the past two years and have also supported as Acting Manager at Newark Nursery while the Manager was on maternity leave. In 2024, I was proud to be named Nursery Manager of the Year and have completed my Level 3 SEN training.


I absolutely love my team; they are fun, passionate, and feel like a little family. I also adore working with the children — it’s such a wonderful feeling watching them grow, develop, and being part of some of the biggest milestones in their early years.


I am especially passionate about creating inclusive environments. I’ve been extremely lucky to support multiple children with additional needs and find it truly inspiring to see how every child learns, grows, and thrives in their own unique way.
