Children 1st Shepshed Nursery School is situated near the centre of Shepshed, close to the M1. The nursery has been refurbished throughout; with bright, open areas for babies, toddlers, early years and out-of-school children, from birth to 12-years-old.

The friendly, enthusiastic staff are all fully trained and very experienced, and child to staff ratios are even lower than Ofsted requirements.

Outside there is a garden designed to maximise the potential for outdoor play, and children are encouraged to choose their own activity with a huge variety of options both in and outside.

The nursery offers funded places for eligible 2, 3 and 4 year olds.

A fantastic nursery school environment, with the added care and attention that comes with a designated early years practitioner, and a ratio of only eight children to each member of staff.

This is a fantastic nursery which is currently undergoing a complete transformation; the refurbishment in the babies room looks like there has been no expense spared, from gorgeous toys, cosy corners, sensory lighting, looks absolutely brilliant and it’s only just begun!
The staff are completely dedicated,
they go out of their way to ensure that parents and children are looked after, nothing is ever too much trouble for them and the manager is an absolute gem of a woman!
The activities on offer for each age group and superb, the children are always trying out new things and every day is something new. The staff have such great imaginations and encourage the children to use theirs too.
I would highly recommend this setting for your little ones; if you’ve ever looked around here before but didn’t sign up in the end, I would strongly urge you to go and visit it again, there have been many many changes over the last year or so: it was good before but it’s brilliant now!!

Both of our children attend this nursery, using the nursery as well as before and after school club and holiday club and they both really enjoy their time here. The staff are patient and always helpful, keen to offer support when required and seem so genuinely happy al the time! The gardens are beautiful
and although the building is old they really do make the most of the space with fantastic display, activities, cosy book corners and truly beautiful furnishings. The children bring home some amazing artwork and always have plenty to talk about - not forgetting the delicious and varied menu, all home cooked on site. Fantastic place!

My son came to this nursery just after turning 18 months old.
His development became obvious to see, 2 days a week, his physical confidence and eating all came on in a big way.
The care he received was excellent, very loving, encouraging, stimulating. I am very, very pleased with his development,
I would highly recommend this nursery and the staff are incredible, they care about the parent's concerns as much as the child.

Shepshed Nursery is great! First child and now second has started there! The location ‘White House’ is lovely and warm and functional.
But like any nursery confidence in staff is most important- I could a name several who make the Nursery what it is, without them caring as they do, I would only rate
it as average.

I have had a child at Children 1st Shepshed since 2014 and have been extremely happy with the service I have received. Both my girls have been very happy there, and I feel they have always been well cared for. I have found the Managers to be very supportive in their roles of managing the nursery; it
makes a huge difference as a parent to have a communicative and personable nursery manager.

We have particularly found two of the nursery nurses to be exceptional and if more of the staff shared their work ethic and dedication to the role then I think the nursery could really excel. Take note Children 1st, you need more staff like them!

My son has attended this nursery for the past three years and whilst I am happy for him to attend I have to say the standards over those three years has declined. If this nursery wasn’t so convenient to us as a whole family I would consider moving him out.

Communication from the nursery management is very poor. Staff turnover is way too high. Never introduced to new staff and they never introduce themselves either and you are expected to feel comfortable leaving your kids with them.

I cannot fault the nursery at all. My daughter gets excited to attend and is familiar with the nursery staff and happily goes to them in a morning. We have never been told of a day she has been upset which shows us she loves it which puts us at ease. The nursery has a huge variety of activities and
our daughter never seems to have a week of doing the same things which is great. This is our first child but we are sure she is coming on leaps and bounds because of the learning and help from Nursery. She is an extremely confident walker and she is saying a few words and recognising lots of nursery rhymes and songs. We encourage this at home but we are sure nursery is helping. The staff are all friendly when we drop off/collect our daughter and are happy to answer questions or offer advice. Our daughter will attend the nursery until school and we would recommend to anybody.

Our daughter has attended since she was 8.5 months (now 17 months) and we feel she has settled very well. She recognises her workers and clearly has good bonds with the staff in her room.
The nursery caters brilliantly to dietary requirements, especially in regards to allergies.
Staff are lovely,
helpful, friendly and very caring. Communication is good and the online link allows us to see what she has been up to each week.
Really like how the 0-2 space is divided further so smaller babies are not in with toddlers, unlike most nurseries.
Outdoor space is very unique and a real seller for picking this nursery.
100% happy we chose this nursery and would not hesitate to recommend.

My children have been attending Children 1st @ Shepshed for nearly 8 years. The staff are very friendly and keep parents regularly informed about their child's progress. There are excellent facilities in all of the rooms. The outdoor facilities are spacious and provide varying activities for children.
I have been very pleased with the care my children have both received and can highly recommend this nursery.

My children are both very happy coming to nursery. The staff are all friendly and helped my girls to settle well.
Due to only dropping off on one morning I do miss information such as the photographer attending, so a letter with dates on would be really useful to me.

Both my boys have been to Children 1st @ Shepshed and it is a fabulous nursery. The staff are friendly and great with the children. There is loads of space for them to explore and lots of activities for them to do. The only criticism is the lack of correspondence between the nursery and home now my
son is 3. I keep missing activities and events because I don't always do the drop off and pick up so don't see the signs on the doors.

I think highly of the nursery my son goes to for a four-year-old, he is so far ahead and surprises all who talk or spend time with. Apart from his own abilities, we put this down to the staff of the nursery. Any minor hiccups are always dealt with immediately. They understand the value of what our offspring
mean to us and their progression. Thanks to the staff, my child will have the best start soon at school. The only major drawback is our bank balance. The cost is immense, twice our mortgage monthly.

My daughter has been attending the nursery for 9 months now and she adores it, even on a weekend she asks if she can go to nursery today. I find all of the staff extremely helpful and have never had an occasion where I have felt needs haven't been met or my queries haven't been answered. I have never
gone in to the nursery when dropping of or collecting and found an unhappy member of staff. I would love to know their secrets to being so cheerful!
My daughter loves the staff and her friends. There is never a day that she comes home and doesn't have anything to show or tell us about. She enjoys the food that is offered to her and I have no complaints about what she is eating while at nursery.
The best review I could leave is that it is a struggle to get my daughter to come back home! I have on more than one occasion had to fireman's lift her out of the building as she hasn't wanted to leave, you can't ask for more than that from the establishment that you entrust with your child's wellbeing.

Lovely nursery, plenty of room for the little ones. My daughter is 14months and has been there since October 2017, she's come on no end, has friends there and is very happy in the company of her carers/nursery staff. We are always updated regularly with comments, photos and videos of her development
and what they have been doing as well as her daily diary. I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone, staff are very supportive of parents/carers as well as the children, good nutritious variety of meals given and lovely outdoor spaces.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.749)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.749) out of 10 for Children 1st Shepshed Nursery School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 19 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.982 for Children 1st Shepshed Nursery School is calculated as follows: ( (224 Excellents x 5) + (2 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 227 Ratings = 4.982
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.767 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Children 1st Shepshed Nursery School is based on 19 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.975
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 120 number of registered child places is 24. 19 Positive Reviews ÷ 24 = 0.792
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2006

Hi, my name is Amy Sharpe and I am the Nursery Manager at Children 1st @ Shepshed. I have worked for Children 1st @ Shepshed since the company took over the nursery I had worked at for 4 years in April 2010. I have had experience in all of the age groups throughout my career but found my passion was the Early Years age group. I worked as the Early Years Practitioner in the nursery for 3 years before being given the opportunity for the position as Deputy Manager. I still enjoy spending lots of time doing activities with the children in all of the different age groups in nursery. I have completed my degree, which I worked towards alongside working at nursery. I enjoy horse-riding lessons at the weekend and can usually be found with my nose in a book when at home!
