Hermitage Nursery School provides care for up to 80 children a day in a purpose built nursery and pre-school.

They have an excellent partnership with parents, carers and other professionals involved with families such as health visitors, area SENCo and Speech and Language therapist as well as having close connections with local schools to enable staff to support smooth transitions to school.

Everything they do is driven by their desire to provide the highest levels of quality childcare that they can. They pride themselves on having a fully qualified team of practitioners who are experience and passionate about what they do. As a setting they are constantly ensuring that they are one step ahead and implement new ideas and legislation as and when these arise.

Couldn't be happier with the care our daughter gets. From the cleaning staff to the manager, everyone puts in 100% to make our daughter's time away from us the best it can be.

A superb nursery that provides exceptional childcare for my son who attends full time. He loves going every morning and completes a varied range of stimulating activities every day. The staff are brilliant- even if they are not in my son’s room, they know his name and speak to him in the mornings or
evenings. This adds to the warm, caring and safe environment that is always evident at this nursery. I would not hesitate to recommend to any prospective parent!

My child was extremely happy at nursery and always looked forward to seeing the staff when going into nursery. He loved the activities available and enjoyed being in the room with staff and carrying out what the staff had to offer them. The day to day routine was always varied and fun and catered for
their interests and he loved being there. I couldn't have been more happy with the care.

My little boy has attended Hermitage day nursery from 9months old and loved everyday. Forest School for pre school children is amazing he loves going on the mini bus each week.

Both my children have attended Hermitage and they have received excellent care. The staff are lovely and the children have lots of excellent activities to keep them occupied!

My son started Hermitage when he was 8 months in the Babyroom and the staff was very friendly and welcoming. He settled really quickly and built good strong relationships with his keyworker and staff within the Nursery. All staff was caring and supportive and he enjoyed being in each room before leaving
Preschool 2 in October.

My son went to the nursery from 9 months old until he was ready for school at 4 and now my second son has been going since he was 7 months old and he is now 2.
The nursery is purpose built so each room is a bright space that has everything the children need for a day of adventures! The outside space
is also a winner with lots to do for the children. Even the babies don’t miss out with their own secure outside play space which for me was one of the reasons why I loved Hermitage when I viewed.
The staff are brilliant and if there ever was anything that needed to be discussed they are always ready to listen. From day one they follow out your wishes as a parent as well as helping your child to the next stage in their development.
The staff are all trained to a high level and they ensure that everyone is first aid trained etc. They have even organised first aid training for parents.
I personally can’t recommend them enough!

Catherine Higgs

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2022

Catherine has worked in childcare for over thirty years, gaining her NNEB qualification in 1993 and continuing to further her knowledge around childcare through experience and training.


She is passionate about giving every child the best possible start in life and enjoys supporting the team at Hermitage, to provide the best possible care for all children who attend.


She is a mum herself to two teenagers, and in her free time enjoys travelling with her family and walks with their family dog.


Catherine started working at Storal in January 2018 at Woodville Nursery School and moved over to Hermitage Nursery School in January 2022.
