Hermitage Nursery School provides care for up to 80 children a day in a purpose built nursery and pre-school.

They have an excellent partnership with parents, carers and other professionals involved with families such as health visitors, area SENCo and Speech and Language therapist as well as having close connections with local schools to enable staff to support smooth transitions to school.

Everything they do is driven by their desire to provide the highest levels of quality childcare that they can. They pride themselves on having a fully qualified team of practitioners who are experience and passionate about what they do. As a setting they are constantly ensuring that they are one step ahead and implement new ideas and legislation as and when these arise.

Hermitage Day Nursery & Pre-school has exceeded expectations and more. Moving to the area and trying to find a suitable nursery was a struggle until I came across Hermitage Day Nursery & Pre-school. I was able to view the nursery straight away and the facilities they have to offer are incredible. My
son settled in extremely quickly and always enjoys going. He still attends and I will be applying for a position for my other children. Thank you to all the staff!

Everyone at the Hermitage Day Nursery & Pre-school have been fantastic and so supportive. They show so much care for each child and have helped our little boy settle in so well and helped us as parents feel at ease. The team at Hermitage Day Nursery are just truly wonderful. They are kind, caring and I could not be happier leaving my daughter in their care. She loves it there and cried when we go to pick her up as she doesn't want to leave.

Hermitage day Nursery has a safe and friendly environment. The staff are amazing and always so helpful and welcoming. Throughout this pandemic, the service and cleanliness have been outstanding. From the very beginning, the nursery and its staff has been extremely welcoming. At first, to leave your child with people you don’t know seems very strange and an anxious time as first-time parents. But we soon realised there was no need to worry!
Staff members are so friendly and are genuinely invested
in your children. When you go to pick them up at the end of the day, they can tell you absolutely everything about your child’s day. And should any problems arise during the day, they try their best to keep your child in nursery and not ring you to take them home at the first opportunity.
The nursery itself is lovely, with lots of activities for them to do and learn from. The outside area is my child’s particular favourite!
We really feel like part of the family at Hermitage and would happily recommend it to any parents considering sending their children there!

Absolutely fantastic place, and was originally recommended to me by a work colleague. The daily reports and handovers are done so well and professionally, that very rarely have we had any questions about what our daughter has been up to in the day.
She has learnt so much since starting here when I
went back to work after maternity leave, and having moved up through the rooms she knows all the staff and they know her - even interacting when they see her in the corridor, and commenting on how much she has changed over the years.
The staff really get to know the children, and genuinely care about their progress. They are all so friendly and easy to talk to, especially if you have any questions.
The trips they run are planned and executed so carefully, I have no problem in letting my child go out with the staff here.
My daughter has really missed all her friends and the staff during lockdown, and is super excited about going back next month and telling them all about what she's been up to!

My daughter has been attending here since she was 2 years old, she has loved every single minute of it! Due to COVID, she didn’t attend for 4 months, on her first day back she ran through the doors! All of the staff go out of their way and beyond to make the children thrive and feel comfortable! The
day to day activities they do are fabulous and involve learning in many ways when the children don’t even realise it! My daughter is sad to be leaving to go to school and says she will miss nursery and all of her friends.

I always feel welcome when going into the nursery the staff and management are very friendly. Always get good feedback of the child's day, what they have been doing and what they have had to eat at mealtimes. The room always looks clean and there are lots of activities etc to be seen. The staff are

My nephew has attended this nursery for four years, and loved it! It was so refreshing when speaking with him about the bonds he formed with the other children and staff alike. He took pride when showing me his drawings and loved talking about all the ‘fun things’ (in his words) that he used to do!
He especially loved Forest School, and we still visit the area today. He has grown up into a well-grounded, respectful little boy with key social skills for everyday life. I can’t recommend this nursery any higher.

Since my son has started nursery he has fitted in and settled very well. I love seeing his daily reports and the pictures attached. His reports are so detailed I feel I have actually spent the day with him. The staff members throughout the nursery have made myself and my son feel very welcome. It's

The nursery has been so good to my son. We transferred from another nursery and every member of staff has been really welcoming. He has settled in really well, like a 2nd home. Since starting he has been poorly and the staff have helped him overcome the different illnesses. Thank you to everyone.

My son started nursery in the baby room and stayed till he left for school. He loved going and received excellent care.
The staff provide a wide range of activities from cooking to forest school.

A great nursery that I wouldn’t hesitate recommending to anyone. My son has always been happy there, the staff are very caring and compassionate towards the children and I feel completely comfortable leaving my son in their care. The toys and activities on offer are really good, different every day
along with messy play activities.

My grandson was very happy at the nursery. He always wanted to go to nursery, and never wanted to come home as he had so much fun. He always came home talking about the activities and interesting things he did, from trips, people visiting to do talks and what he did during the day. He loved the staff
and didn't stop talking about them, and what they did with him.
He loved every minute. They did lots of extra things for the children, like Christmas parties and fetes and a leaving graduation for the older children. Couldn't of asked for a better place for my grandson to go to, he learnt so much.

My daughter started the nursery when she was 8 months old. Right from the first moment, she entered the baby room she absolutely loved this nursery and continues to attend the nursery now in the preschool 2 room. She has thoroughly enjoyed every room and has brilliant relationships with all of the staff
at the nursery. The staff are loving, caring, and treat the children as if they are their own. They adhere to every child’s personal needs, and I find the observations and learning journeys that are kept on the children are impeccable. The standard of care is second to none. I would highly recommend this nursery to everybody that I know.

Catherine Higgs

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2022

Catherine has worked in childcare for over thirty years, gaining her NNEB qualification in 1993 and continuing to further her knowledge around childcare through experience and training.


She is passionate about giving every child the best possible start in life and enjoys supporting the team at Hermitage, to provide the best possible care for all children who attend.


She is a mum herself to two teenagers, and in her free time enjoys travelling with her family and walks with their family dog.


Catherine started working at Storal in January 2018 at Woodville Nursery School and moved over to Hermitage Nursery School in January 2022.
