My child has attended nursery here since Oct 2012 and he has thoroughly enjoyed himself. He has grown into an adorable, polite, caring, independent little man. Thank you to all staff who have cared for him over the years.

The staff are friendly and helpful and I feel my son is safe. I don't like the parking, not convenient, people block each other. There are not many outings apart from the small yard outside. It would be good to have day trips. The food is not the best. The ingredients are of a low quality such as "value"
ham. The choice should be better with more fruit and vegetables.

My two boys thoroughly enjoy the nursery. The staff are so helpful and tuned into what my boys need. They constantly encourage to be "them" and enjoy their day. Really rate all of the staff, setting and other kids attending.

My son has attended Tommies from a baby and he's now a confident toddler who is thriving at nursery. He loves the outside space and walks to Astley Castle as well as the sensory play and role play that nursery pit a lot of time and effort into.

Very happy with the development of my child and the learning she has had from the nursery. Also the care received and the bonds she has formed shows that the attention given from the staff is excellent.

Whilst this is a small nursery, I have always felt that this is a positive as it has a happy homely feel and the staff really care about and engage with the children. I love the extra special events the nursery organises, the Christmas nativity, charity fun days for the children at the weekend, Halloween
sensory party to name but a few. The staff are friendly and responsive, overall the care my daughter receives is excellent and she really seems to enjoy her time there. Thank you.

My child settled straight away and really enjoys coming. He has built a good relationship with his key worker. Staff readily available to talk to parents and complaints/issues dealt with immediately. A range of activities available for the children and events often arranged when parents can get involved.
I would like more access to my child's learning journal to see what he has been learning/activities he has completed.

Small but perfectly formed - Tommies Astley is a well run, caring and fun packed nursery. The staff are all excellent at building relationships with the children and ensure the days are packed with educational activities. I was so worried about taking my little girl to nursery. I shouldn't have worried,
she loves it!

My son was not really to used to being left with people who he did not know and this really concerned me. His transition was successful, the staff made me feel so comfortable and allowed me to contact the nursery whenever I needed to. The staff member in the Baby Room was fantastic when finding out
about him and his routines and another member of staff in the Baby Room is equally as fabulous in getting to know my son and helping with his development. He has developed rapidly both emotionally and mentally and has formed excellent bonds. He partaken in different forms of play most weeks and the nursery use new bed creative ideas to help stimulate him constantly! He is definitely excited to be left at nursery leaving you feeling as though you have left him with family. He is well cared for, loved and I am informed of every detail, which makes me feel as though I'm not missing out! The manager is fantastic and quietly but efficiently leads her organised team! Thank you for making going back to work an enjoyable experience for both me and my son!

My son has been attending Astley from 9 months old and he is now 4 and due to go to school in September. It is a fab nursery which I would highly recommend, the staff are always friendly and helpful, the manager has made massive improvements since she has been there and all the children always have
smiles on there faces. I never have any worries about the care of my child and will definitely use the nursery again I'm the future.

Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.708)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.708) out of 10 for The Old School Day Nursery & Pre-school is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 5.0 out of 5 from 10 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.8 out of 5 from 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.958 for The Old School Day Nursery & Pre-school is calculated as follows: ( (115 Excellents x 5) + (3 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 119 Ratings = 4.958
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.75 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Old School Day Nursery & Pre-school is based on 10 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.75
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 28 number of registered child places is 5.6, which has been reached with 10 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Thank you for taking the time to learn about The Old School Day Nursery. My name is Debbie Moreton, and I am proud to serve as the Nursery Manager here.

In my role, I am dedicated to supporting our team and ensuring that every child receives the highest-quality care and early education. Since joining Tommies, I have developed my skills and deepened my understanding of the policies, procedures, and values that make our nursery a nurturing and supportive place for both children and staff. Witnessing children and families grow in confidence is truly one of the best parts of my job.

I have also contributed to developing our room environments and daily routines to ensure they meet children’s needs and support their learning. Mentoring new staff members and helping existing team members progress in their roles brings me great fulfilment, as I enjoy watching others grow and succeed.

Creating a positive, open atmosphere where my team feels valued, supported, and confident coming to me with anything, big or small, is very important to me. I strive to foster a nursery environment where everyone feels listened to and can rely on one another.

I warmly welcome you and your family to visit The Old School and see how we can support your child’s early years journey. Please arrange a tour so we can show you the nurturing and stimulating environment we provide.
