Excellent nursery, the staff are brilliant and nothing is too much for them. My child is extremely happy there and I'm dreading the day when she leaves for school as I know she'll really miss them. Five-star nursery with excellent facilities and staff.
This nursery provides children with a magical learning experience, it provides a range of activities that promote learning, safety and well-being. The staff here have always been extremely attentive to my children's needs, it is a warm and welcoming nursery where both of my children feel happy and confident. They especially enjoy the outdoor play available and dancing and singing too. We also receive a daily report at the end of each day, which details what our children have been doing during the day, what they have eaten and nappy changes. All in all, a fab nursery, and we wouldn't choose anywhere else to send our children.
Barford is a great nursery. My son went there and now my daughter does. She very much looks forward to her mornings there and tells us of all the fun she has had painting, playing in the garden and playing pretend games with her friends. The staff are very caring and kind and communicate well with us as parents. Highly recommend!
All staff are fantastic and friendly, with a brilliant level of care for all the children. I am always impressed by how happy and content the children look whenever I am there.
I have also found the level of care for the children to be of the highest standard, especially as my daughter does need extra help with some things.
We've been very pleased with how the staff at Barford Beehive have worked to settle our son into nursery. It's been particularly valuable that he has been cared for by the same member of staff, who has been able to build up a relationship with him and get to know him. This means we have also been able to build a relationship with his key worker, as we've always been given time for a thorough debrief at pick up time. It's been wonderful to see how he engages in the other children at the nursery and has tried out new activities. We couldn't recommend Barford Beehive enough!
My son has been attending Barford Day Nursery for a year now. Both he and I have been made to feel welcomed and valued from day one. All the staff, especially his key worker, have worked extremely hard to build up my son's confidence and he is absolutely flourishing. It's wonderful to see how much he has developed and how happy he is. I love hearing all of his stories of what he has been up to throughout the day, even more so knowing that they really understand him and his interests and plan around them. We are forever grateful.
It’s just simply a fantastic nursery run by an experienced and dedicated team. I was so anxious about trusting anyone with our son but the management and brilliant baby room staff reassured me and kept me so well informed, it made the whole settling-in experience that much easier. They’re knowledgeable, kind, thoughtful and understanding. Everyone is so positive and welcoming, you can’t help but love it. The staff’s dedication and enthusiasm shine through by how happy the children are and we love hearing about what he’s been up to when I pick him up. Size and security were key when we were looking at nurseries and we were so impressed with their standards. The facilities are clean, the building has character and it’s just been refurbished; it is lovely. They don’t seem to rest on their laurels either and are always looking at how they can improve. I can only advise that if you are considering Barford, sign up as soon as you can, as places are snapped up quickly with good reason.
After moving from the city and a nursery that had some issues with staffing, Barford Nursery is like a breath of fresh air. The staff are consistently friendly, patient, highly skilled and have a genuine enthusiasm for child care and education. There is also a real sense of teamwork and fun. Both our children have thrived since their arrival at Barford and it is always reassuring that they are delighted to get there in the morning.
Our daughter absolutely loves Barford Nursery, as do we. When we drop her off in the morning she toddles through the door to see all her friends with a beaming smile. From the moment we first came to visit the nursery we were welcomed with such warmth from all of the staff and felt that it was a very caring, safe and nurturing environment to leave our daughter. We enjoy reading our daughter's daily reports and speaking to the staff about what she got up to that day, which makes us feel connected to her and her day even though we are at work. Her development book is lovely to read with reports and photographs of her week and gives us confidence that she is constantly being helped in her development, we have really noticed the difference in her since being at nursery. She is very confident in new social situations with both adults and children, and will readily play, share with and learn from other children.
We are very happy with the care provided by Beehive Nursery and have been very happy with our son's development since being there.
They have been moving her onto cows milk and drinking from a sippy cup, which thanks to their dedication she’s getting the hang of.
She was a tad poorly recently and they just took amazing care of her, phoning to update us and ensuring she had lots of cuddles and attention.
Both my husband and I work full time and this wouldn’t be possible if she hadn’t settled in as well as she has, again all thanks to the amazing nursery staff. I really cannot speak highly enough, the nursery is just brilliant.
They have hot food provided from the school during the day, always vegetarian options, and have plenty to eat for tea in late afternoon, which doesn't involve microwaving, which I like.
The children go out to play outdoors every day, sometimes twice.
In the room for 2-3-year-olds, they do painting every day, there are so many books and toys.
From an early age, my little boy has been confident using his spoon and fork, and his speaking has come on immensely.
Staff are very attentive and never has he experienced nappy rash whilst here, such as I have done with previous carers of my children.
Five stars!
Lovely, warm, professional nursery. A real home from home for my little girl. The staff really understand her and I feel so happy leaving her in their care.
Both my daughters currently attend this setting in the baby room and preschool room respectively. The quality of care is high; you can tell the staff in each room take the time to get to know each child as an individual and ensure that they reflect this in the activities they set up for them, the type of play they encourage or even the type of comforting they need if upset. Staff are very supportive and collaborative; either with suggesting activities we can do at home based on the play they have enjoyed in the setting or with supporting feeding techniques - which was especially helpful when my daughter went through a phase of refusing to be spoon fed when she hadn't yet mastered self-feeding. When being given the debrief on your child's day at the end of their session it is really reassuring and comforting to hear your children being spoken about with a fondness and an understanding of who they are as little characters. Would recommend the setting to others.
I am very happy at where my daughter attends nursery.
I recently carried out an activity pack which the nursery have set up for parents to take home and complete with their children. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed completing the growing gardeners pack at home. It gave us something to do as a family. I feel the staff members at Beehive Barford go above and beyond to ensure families and children all feel welcomed.
I feel the care is excellent at the nursery, however, I am really excited to hear about the possible refurb the nursery will be undergoing as I feel it could do with a bit of refreshment.
Key people in the toddler room are lovely. And also the one lady in pre-school is lovely and is always smiling.
Our daughter was not very confident with people other than mummy and daddy and would scream if anyone tried to hold her. We were worried about her bonding at nursery and I was very hesitant about her going to nursery. Her carer was amazing, she said she was making sure she had one on one time with her to help with bonding and our daughter now confidently marches into nursery and is obviously very attached to everyone in the baby room. We love reading about all the things she has done that day and love to sneak a peak at her having great fun on the slide before she spots us and runs over grinning. All staff are friendly, helpful and supportive and I would thoroughly recommend Barford Beehive to anyone.
The staff are great - in the baby room, I loved receiving the little notes about what they had been up to each day. Suffice to say the handover in the evening (and this is true for each room) is thorough and insightful. The Busy Bee room was so much fun for my little boys - they were well stimulated with lots of outdoor play as well as external providers such as football, ballet and singing. Pre-school is a good preparation for school as well as still making sure they are cuddled and supported as individuals.
Transitions between rooms are well managed with good parent information and a structured settling in process for the children.
The food is excellent - hot meals are home cooked and supplied by the local school.
I shall be very sad when my youngest leaves the nursery - and the lovely staff - in a couple of years.
My little boy really loves going to Barford Beehive Nursery and this I believe is down to the great atmosphere you create for the children at the nursery. The staff are wonderful. Fun, engaging and attentive. You try really hard to fill days with fun and stimulating activities and make sure they get outside as much as possible (which is important to me). You always listen to the parent's desires and try hard to keep home routines as much as possible.
I struggle to get my little boy to leave nursery at the end of the day.... which says something!
My one request is that you give parents more information about how the child is tracking against their key development stages. I know that lots is done, it would be good to have a more formal catch up on this (eg parents evenings). I also would be keen to know the different activities you undertake with them to start to promote language, maths etc etc.

Meet the Team (2)
I have been the nursery manager at Barford Beehive since November 2001. Before I joined the team I was living and working in Oslo, Norway. I did my level 6 Montessori Diploma whilst working in the Montessori Institute in Oslo, where the children ranged from 2 years to 16 years. I have been in childcare for over 26 years. I am very passionate about providing an enabling environment for all children where they can develop in a safe and secure setting.
The team at Barford can all see the benefits and enjoyment that children get from playing outside. The whole team are extremely committed to ensuring that the company vision of Keeping Everyone Safe is evident within our culture of behavioural safety at Barford Beehive.
Hi my name is Lucy and I am the Deputy Manager of Bright Horizons Barford.
I have worked in childcare for the past nine years after achieving my level 3 national diploma in children’s care learning and development when I was 18.
Having worked for Bright Horizons for a few years I was given the opportunity to move to Barford and become the deputy manager in 2021. Previous to this role I spent most of my career as a room leader enhancing my knowledge across all age ranges from 0-5 years.
I am enthusiastic about creating a safe and secure environment that enables children to learn through play, providing them with opportunities to explore a wide range of experiences to support the development of each individual child.
