Stonehouse nursery was once an old farm house building but is now renovated into a fully functional childcare facility. Lots of special remnants remain in their outdoor space like an original farm tractor and their 2 pet chickens who roam through the gardens whilst they play.
They have 5 Little Pioneers who help share their core values with the children such as encouraging them to be independent to making a difference in the world. They are big on safety which is why ALL their staff are paediatric first aid trained.
They are big on happy children so they have areas for growing food (and eating it), regular visits to local care homes and take care of each other and the world. Their ParentZone app keeps mums and dads informed about life at nursery including photos from their day, assessments, meals eaten and even toilet training progress.
The nursery holds the green flag status in the prestigious Green Flag Eco-schools programme which is an internationally recognised award for excellence in environmental action and learning.
They love healthy eating at Stonehouse and they've partnered with Startwell, an exciting new programme being rolled out across Birmingham to encourage healthy, nutritious meals for children.

About this price
How funding is applied, how the monthly figure is calculated.More info
- Working parents of children aged 9 months to 2 years can usually claim up to 30 funded hours a week. The working-parent hours depend on each parent meeting the minimum earnings rules and earning under £100,000 a year. This nursery stretches funded hours across 52 weeks of the year. You've selected 30 funded hours.
- This nursery applies up to 10 funded hours per day, stretched across 52 weeks of the year. With your selected funding, 21.9 hours are covered each week. Hours beyond this, including the early and late parts of the day, are charged at the standard rate.
- We work out the total cost across the year and divide by 12, so the figure shown is a smoothed monthly average. In practice, nurseries bill in different ways. Some bill monthly at this average. Others bill weekly, or charge for what happened that week or month, which can vary across the year. Confirm billing details with the nursery when you enquire.

One problem - the company that runs the nurseries billing system is atrocious. Always wrong bills being sent, threatening emails despite payment. A shambles. The poor management comment below is just for the billing, not the Nursery manager themselves who is very very good.

The staff are extremely caring and nurturing and I felt completely at ease leaving my child in their care. The learning experiences that are planned each day are brilliant and I felt the staff knew exactly where my child was in terms of her development and strived to stretch and extend her development.
My child is very happy here and enjoys spending time withhis peers . They are always doing different activities and learning in the process. Hes loved every member of staff who have looked after him so far and i hope he continues to as he moves up.

For my surprise, all went so smoothly and good that he is asking on days he is not at the nursery to take him to. He absolutely loves it there. Always full of stories of what he did, friends he made...And I cannot be happier.
Amazing nursery. We get regular daily updates and photos through the app which is very useful. My daughter loves it there and the staff are great. I have no complaints at all, good food, great staff, amazing building and I feel they really do look after her as if it was their own child.

We have found this to be a friendly and caring nursery setting for both of our sons. All of the staff know all of the children and they care about parent input. Thoughtful and personal planning for activities, which are tailored to children's interests. The pre-school is particularly good, they have prepared and supported my eldest son so well through the transition to school. The Forest School is great, staffed with experienced forest school leaders who give the children a brilliant opportunity to gain independence and a life of the outdoors. Good green outside space with areas for each age group.

This environment and the different planned activities gave him lots of stimulation. The staff were also very careful about his egg allergy. I felt confident leaving him in their care.

The nursery staff are a great team and both my children have blossomed, since being here.
From an educational point of view, their learning is both structured and varied but with lots of free play involved as well.
From a social aspect, I was worried at first about how my boys would fit it, not having been around many children their own ages. But again, their social development has grown substantially since attending this nursery, with both being confident and interacting with all the children.
Plus the outside space and forest school is a great way for the children to be outside in all types of weather.
They also give you daily updates on how the children have been throughout the day and monthly emails, with pictures and advising what key developments your child has met. A very good source of information and reassurance.
Would highly recommend.

I have been a parent here for five years now and both of my children had individual health challenges, the nursery went above and beyond to understand and adapt to. They made me feel confident that my children were getting the best possible care whilst away from me. I cannot thank them enough.

Very impressed with my child's development! My child is able to use numerous words in sentences and surprises me what they have learned at the nursery. Excellent work with frequently showing the progress my child is making through email profiles, parents evenings and generally verbal updates. Would have loved the nursery to do primary school teaching as would not want my child to go anywhere else. Excellent flexibility, care and safety of my child. Really impressed with the outdoor activities and engaging my child in learning. My child enjoys going nursery as they are able to express this to me.

Daytimes consist of structured activities which help my son to learn but more importantly he is enjoying taking part and staff have encouraged his confidence. The nursery has also focused on key areas including teamwork, building relationships and listening which will set him up well for school.
I'm really happy with the guidance my son has received and looking forward to my daughter attending in June.
Excellent nursery with lots of activities taking place each day. Staff genuinely care for the children and my son enjoys going. They are encouraging his potty training and he does lots of crafts and messy play. He is turning into a very confident happy little boy and has made friends.

First Steps Nursery is an excellent childcare provider. The staff are very welcoming and treats my daughter like their own. I would definitely recommend this nursery and use them again in the future.

We have been extremely happy with the care provided by the staff over the last 1.5 years. The nursery has excellent outdoor facilities and the children are outside most days which our little boy loves.
