Elmdon Day Nursery is a privately owned nursery established in 2004. The nursery is single storey and all the rooms have safety gates, not doors, which gives the nursery an open friendly atmosphere.
There is a small car park at the front.

The nursery caters for all children from birth to five years, with each age group having its own dedicated staff and rooms. Each area is colourful and bright with children's work on display, artistic wall/window murals and plentiful toys and resources. It also has a large, private outdoor area which has a sensory room, mud kitchen, giant sandpit plus lots of space for ride on toys, climbing frames and balancing beams.

The staff plan weekly themes, fun days and charity events to ensure all children have a stimulating and safe environment in which to learn and develop. To compliment this, it has professionals who give music and dance sessions four times a week, which parents can opt their children into. Leapfrog sports and football sessions are also provided.

The setting is part of the Startwell Healthy Lifestyle programme and children have a healthy diet and lots of daily exercise. The nursery can cater for different diets.

To keep parents informed, there is a closed Facebook Group, email system plus newsletters and an annual parents evening. More information can be found on their website.

It offers two, three- and four-year-old funding subject to availability and accepts nursery vouchers and registered for the Gov.t tax free childcare scheme. The nursery was rated 'Good' in all areas during the latest Ofsted inspection (April 2018).

My little girl has been attending since she was 2 and will be turning 4 this year and starting school. Due to covid, she was a very shy reserved child around unfamiliar people but her development and confidence have grown massively thanks to the lovely staff at Elmdon. She enjoys going to nursery and
always comes home happy saying she has had a great day learning new things and doing all the various activities. I love seeing all the photos on the private Facebook group of the daily activities and find it very useful for any updates. Thank you to the owner and her team!
Reply from Tracey Deol, Manager at Elmdon Day NurseryThank you. Your daughter has developed so well with yours and our care. Hopefully, we can look after no.2.

All 3 of our children have attended Elmdon Day Nursery over the years and our youngest is currently in pre-school, having been at Elmdon since he was a baby. Our son runs into nursery so happily and comes home full of news about his day and his friends. The staff are knowledgable and experienced, (in
fact a number of them were also working at Elmdon when our 2 older children attended). The staff encourage each child's learning and development enthusiastically and we have appreciated their effort in supporting our youngest son with his potty training. We find that the owner/manager is extremely approachable, flexible, and accomodating. The communication between nursery and parents is excellent and we really appreciate the daily photo updates detailing what the kids have been doing. We have been extremely pleased with the childcare provided by Elmdon and all 3 of our children have loved being there too.
Reply from Tracey Deol, Manager at Elmdon Day NurseryThank you, Kate, what a lovely family you have, can't bear to let your son go! We have enjoyed looking after all of them over the years.

My son has been with this nursery for approaching three years. His baby brother is due to start. I have to say the owner/manager is really accommodating. Flexibility is a must in my job and she works around this. Sometimes people may be hesitant to ask for favours because of people saying no but I can
honestly say she has never said no to any request I’ve asked. My son skips in that nursery. He loves the girls that work there and so do I they’re all lovely. Love the Facebook page, shows how interactive with the children they are. Highly recommend to everyone.
Reply from Tracey Deol, Manager at Elmdon Day NurseryThanks, Hannah! Us working parents have to stick together and help each other out!

It's a very friendly homely atmosphere with staff members knowing children well. I like the variety of activities they offer, the effort they put to make the days as fun as can be but educating children at the same time. Parents are well informed either via Facebook or emails, the response to any queries,
etc is very quick. The manager is very much involved in knowing the staff, children, and activities on top of all other managerial duties. I also like their motivational tricks (eg. Star of the Day, well-done stickers, etc) to encourage good behaviour and self-esteem in children. There's a lovely garden area. The preschool cottages are really nicely decorated and equipped in a manner that encourages educational development. Both my sons are known to Elmdon Day Nursery and I would definitely recommend it to others.
Reply from Tracey Deol, Manager at Elmdon Day NurseryThank you, Danuta, and both your boys have been little treasures. It's great to see how they are growing up.

We would recommend this nursery to anyone, they really put the children at the heart of everything they do and care deeply. My son absolutely adores going to nursery and I have no worries while he's there. They're left to be children, to play and learn without unnecessary pressures. The staff are all
wonderful - friendly, helpful, and informative. Thank you Elmdon Day Nursery.

The staff are wonderful and really seem to care, they are all friendly, always communicating with us and easily available to answer any questions we have. They made me feel comfortable leaving
my daughter there. My child has enjoyed her experience and loves the staff at the nursery.

My daughter joined Elmdon Day Nursery in September 2021 after her first nursery closing. It has been the best decision sending her here as the help we’ve received has been excellent. They’ve been very understanding and helpful towards my daughter as she joins SEN in which we’ve come so far already in
the space of 5/6 months. The improvement we’ve seen in her compared to her other nursery has been completely different and we’re so relieved. All members of staff are so lovely. I couldn’t wish upon a better team to look after my daughter and son.

Our daughter (now 3.5 yrs old) has been attending Elmdon Day Nursery since January 2021. She settled in within a few days and loves it so much. She has made really strong connections with the staff and so many friendships with other children who attend. She literally runs in, in the morning. I have
to make sure I get a kiss and a cuddle before the door opens. The nursery have helped me with potty training her last year, help with encouraging her to eat different things (picky eater), and are getting her ready for reception in September. Her speech and writing is coming on so well too, as is her reading, which we try to mirror at home. We are so happy to have found somewhere, that feels like a second home to her.
Reply from Tracey Deol, Manager at Elmdon Day NurseryThank you, Vicki, your daughter is a star and I had a good chat with her yesterday which is lovely as once she was so shy.

My daughter has been going to this nursery since she was 7 months old (now 3) and has worked her way up to pre-school. All the staff have always been really welcoming and supportive. She is happy going to nursery and has made some lovely friends as they have grown up together. The nursery put photos
on a private page each day to show the activities the children are doing and celebrating children for their individual achievements. They communicate topics and EYFS information regularly so we can link some things we do at home and can talk to her about them. They also provide extra activities from outside agencies at a very small cost such as multi-sports classes. Overall a great nursery and we will be sad when she has to leave.
Reply from Tracey Deol, Manager at Elmdon Day NurseryVicky, thank you. Your daughter is loving the preschool and great to see her develop through different stages. We will miss her.

My daughter has been at the nursery since she turned one, she’s now coming up to four and the nursery has given her the best start and preparation for school this year. I love how she’s always done a different activity that’s educational in a fun way, and her bag is always full of drawings and crafts.
She loves the outdoor activities and I love knowing she’s always kept busy! I’ve always felt she’s safe and cared for by a fab team who she’s forever chatting and telling me stories about. We’ll really miss you all in September and we’ll always recommend the nursery.

My son has been going to Elmdon Day Nursery since he was 8 months old, he's now 2 and his development has come on leaps and bounds, especially in his speech. The nursery setting is lovely with lots of planned activities aimed at each learning stage and the outdoor area is an added bonus! I particularly
love the closed Facebook group which shows what he's doing during the day and I love all the crafts and pictures he brings home. I know when I walk away, I have peace of mind that he's well looked after.

organised and am so impressed with how they keep the parents fully updated with useful information and key learning for each child. Can’t thank them all enough, they all do a fantastic job!

What I would do without you guys!? This nursery is so good for my daughter she loves going there. She settled in a week and goes there with a smile on her face. Elmdon Nursery serve healthy food and my daughter likes it all. If anything happens (like my baby didn't feel well) they call me straight away
so I know what's going on. They always give a lot of hugs and I know they really care for all these babies. They have a great garden which I am sure all children adore to be in. I definitely will send another baby there if I had one more. Thanks to the Owner/Manager for having my daughter! And all your support always.

Lovely nursery with what seems to be a really good staff retention. Still have the same staff as when my now 7 year old went. All polite and informative. Extra lessons are also available to give the children something else to do, ie music where someone comes in and the children play with instruments.
The Owner/Manager is really accommodating and always tries her best to help.

My daughter started at Elmdon in September ‘21 in preparation for her starting primary school this year. She has loved going and adores the staff. Each day she learns new skills and develops her core knowledge she’ll need for school in a fun and engaging way! Daily activities are well varied with sports
and exercise opportunities organised weekly for the children. The facilities are very good with children being grouped appropriately by age. My daughter eats all her meals at nursery and enjoys the variety of food provided. I am thoroughly grateful that the staff have got to know my daughter and take such good care of her. I would definitely recommend this nursery.

He absolutely loves all the staff that have taken care of him and who have also made transitioning from different age groups very smooth for us. He is always coming in excited in the morning and leaving happy every
afternoon. The children get up to so many activities, even messy stuff that he would not be able to do at home which he really enjoys. All the staff including the Owner/Manager are extremely helpful and approachable, always happy to help and give constructive feedback on his development.

Current Review Score: 9.9 (9.934)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.9 (9.934) out of 10 for Elmdon Day Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 28 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.934 for Elmdon Day Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (311 Excellents x 5) + (22 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 333 Ratings = 4.934
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Elmdon Day Nursery is based on 28 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 65 number of registered child places is 13, which has been reached with 28 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
