Sixpenny Day Nursery is a purpose-built, fun and exhilarating nursery for children to learn through play.

Located in Devizes, the first Sixpenny Nursery was founded in 1989 in the village of Nursteed. Having now moved to a purpose-built setting at Roundway Hill Farm in 2012, the nursery specialises in outdoor learning, play and exercise, within its beautiful, countryside location. The nursery adopts a ‘Forest School’ learning approach, where children can develop their skills uniquely, whilst encouraging conversation about the environment and the importance of appreciating the planet.

The nursery offers exceptional care, enriched by unique learning opportunities for your child. One such experience is child-friendly cooking classes, helping to equip children with valuable skills and deeper knowledge of the cooking process.

Each room has free-flow access to the secure garden, which includes a variety of activities, such as an allotment, an outdoor mud kitchen, and sensory areas. The children are free to explore their surrounding nature, and with a special ‘undercover’ area, they can enjoy outdoor play in all weathers. There is also a farm area, where the children can feed and care for the animals, such as the nurseries very own pygmy goats.

Children are encouraged to take part in weekly music sessions, a variety of sports, cooking, and yoga, as well as participate in the nursery’s Forest School classes. These activities provide benefits for children such as increasing a child’s confidence and self-esteem through exploration, problem solving, and being encouraged to learn how to assess and take appropriate risks depending on their environment.

With the location of the countryside, the nursery is bright and airy, with plenty to keep all the children engaged, and active. There is also lots of opportunities to be outside in the fresh air, for the children to run, play, climb and cycle.

Since my son has started Sixpenny Day Nursery, I have nothing but positive things to say. The staff in his room are very lovely and extremely helpful and make me feel at ease every time he's there. My older 2 children also attended Sixpenny a few years ago and I'm so glad that the welcoming atmosphere
and outstanding care haven't changed one bit. Thanks to you all.

Excellent nursery. Very friendly and dedicated staff. My child loves coming to nursery. They have taught him so much.
The nursery is always clean and well maintained with good heating in the winter.
Expensive but the service reflects this.
The car park is mildly dangerous and could do with an
upgrade, but this is down to the landlord.

Always a great experience - my children love every day there, and the staff are very lovely. There's a great range of activities, and the forest school is great, with all children given the opportunity to get involved.

Myself and my wife count ourselves very lucky to have found such a brilliant nursery for our girls. Our eldest has moved through all the rooms, and we've found every member of staff to be really kind and thoroughly engaged with the children. We love the fact there is so much outdoor space, and the children
are encouraged to play and explore outside. Our eldest especially enjoys the forest school, where they spend all day doing different outdoor activities. Our youngest has no qualms about handovers in the mornings and hasn't done since her first week, which is down to how at home she feels with the staff there. However, we don't receive updates on development through the app as often as we used to, so it would be good if that could be looked at. Overall, we are very happy with the nursery we chose.

I love the fact my girls come here. The staff are excellent, passionate, creative and loving with the kids. I like that the kids are taught to be resilient and push themselves and encouraged to try and not overprotected in the outdoors. But they are safe and well cared for whilst they develop those
essential skills. I’ve seen the development of all of them go up every day they are there. The twins are different children when they come home, seemingly more grown up after every visit. So it’s worth its weight in gold.

Our daughter has loved attending Sixpenny Day Nursery and has enjoyed many enriching experiences. The forest school has been particularly special, as it has provided activities and opportunities which would not have been easily accessible elsewhere or at home. The staff show great care not only for
the children but for us parents too, and I am really grateful for the friendly support they have provided. I feel that handover communication has been really clear and has provided us with a good awareness of what has occurred during the day.

My son has been at this nursery since the dark days of Covid. He has had a great time and always comes home happy after a great day. In particular, Forest School was a firm favourite with the goats.
The staff have always been fantastic, loving and caring and always relay the day to me.
He will be
going to primary school in September, and we wish to give thanks to the staff and the nursery. It's been a very positive experience.

Utterly brilliant. Both my children have been with Sixpenny from eight months old until starting school and have thrived there. The care, attention and education they receive is first class, and I trust the teachers/caregivers implicitly. I’d recommend (I do!) Sixpenny to anyone.

Unfortunately, since the takeover, the nursery has gone downhill (staff are great) to charge for bank holidays is not fair, other nurseries do not.
I have to agree with the others. The nursery has gone downhill since the changeover, this is our second child, who has been to Sixpenny Day Nursery.
Also,
the new paint they use is not washable it stains the clothes.
No evidence of Aprons whilst painting.

My daughter recently started to attend this nursery, and since she started, the staff have been absolutely amazing. The nursery is beautiful and perfect for any child that might love nature and the outdoors. My daughter adored the outside, and this nursery really encourages that. She always comes home
bright and happy after each day. The food options are great and promote a well-balanced diet and a good variety of different options. The classrooms are clean and warm, and everyone is extremely welcoming. I would highly recommend it.

My son loves his days at Sixpenny. The staff are amazing, and we get great daily feedback; he has come on leaps and bounds since starting there three years ago.
The facilities, especially the outside space, are second to none, and the forest school is a wonderful addition to the nursery.

My child has been going to Sixpenny Nursery since he was ten months old; he is now nearly four. He started during Covid, and I cannot speak highly enough of the staff who have consistently been there over this time. It’s been lovely to have some consistency in my child’s care and sharing his progress
with the members of staff. There have been staff who have only been there for a short while, as I understand happens at many nurseries, but there are members who have been there for the long haul.
The variety of food has always been good; however, I know my child often has to ask for second helpings as he is a hungry one. He is always given more food when he asks.
The outside space that Sixpenny has is amazing. They have plenty of activities they can do in the garden; they also have a wooded area and fields to run around in. I love the fact that they are planting seeds at this time of year to help the children understand spring.

Sixpenny Day Nursery has been a place in our hearts since my little girl started in 2020.
Over three years, she has developed and flourished, and this is down to the dedicated staffing team throughout the building. All staff are welcoming and friendly when walking through the nursery to her room on
drop off and collection.
The outdoor space is just mind-blowing, and the children have so many learning opportunities in the outside environment.
My little girl is so excited to attend the forest school soon, and we are very lucky to have this life experience at the nursery. Keep up the hard work, Sixpenny!

I am constantly impressed by this nursery and the amazing staff. My daughter has the best possible care and education here. Her development increases every day, and she is encouraged to be strong and independent but also kind and considerate of other children. I am so glad my daughter attends this nursery,
and I am looking forward to two more of my girls coming up in October.

Both of my children enjoy attending Sixpenny and have both gone since 1 year old. The kids themselves seem to have a good time and always have lots to tell us about their day.
On quite a few occasions my daughter has been brought out with wet underwear/clothing so clearly hasn't been checked before
collection.
Previously room staff have given medical assumptions which were eventually proven to be incorrect but this was relayed to management at the time.
Myself and many other parents don't agree with the costings/charges since sixpenny was taken over. Sixpenny just doesn't have the same vibe that it once had.
