Sixpenny Day Nursery is a purpose-built, fun and exhilarating nursery for children to learn through play.

Located in Devizes, the first Sixpenny Nursery was founded in 1989 in the village of Nursteed. Having now moved to a purpose-built setting at Roundway Hill Farm in 2012, the nursery specialises in outdoor learning, play and exercise, within its beautiful, countryside location. The nursery adopts a ‘Forest School’ learning approach, where children can develop their skills uniquely, whilst encouraging conversation about the environment and the importance of appreciating the planet.

The nursery offers exceptional care, enriched by unique learning opportunities for your child. One such experience is child-friendly cooking classes, helping to equip children with valuable skills and deeper knowledge of the cooking process.

Each room has free-flow access to the secure garden, which includes a variety of activities, such as an allotment, an outdoor mud kitchen, and sensory areas. The children are free to explore their surrounding nature, and with a special ‘undercover’ area, they can enjoy outdoor play in all weathers. There is also a farm area, where the children can feed and care for the animals, such as the nurseries very own pygmy goats.

Children are encouraged to take part in weekly music sessions, a variety of sports, cooking, and yoga, as well as participate in the nursery’s Forest School classes. These activities provide benefits for children such as increasing a child’s confidence and self-esteem through exploration, problem solving, and being encouraged to learn how to assess and take appropriate risks depending on their environment.

With the location of the countryside, the nursery is bright and airy, with plenty to keep all the children engaged, and active. There is also lots of opportunities to be outside in the fresh air, for the children to run, play, climb and cycle.

Some lovely staff however individual child attention and support around their development is significantly lacking. One update a month is now received in individual child diary instead of one a day. And then it is a generic room update not specific to your child.
Children are routinely very dirty on
leaving which is expected - but very dirty face with mud in eyes etc is too far and happens regularly. Very high charges for consumables and extras but very little evidence of art, craft or other activities taking place. Very few structured activities it seems. Their separate finance team seem to manage accounts very badly. Incorrect information is often shared, confusing invoices with no explanation and threatening chasers are automatically sent despite payments made on the date they request. We have had children at Sixpenny for 7 years now and would sadly not recommend them following the new company taking over. There are some very caring staff but our overall impression is still very poor.

Sixpenny has been a wonderful nursery for both of my children who currently attend, the staff are loving, kind, fun and attentive and the management team at Sixpenny have been really helpful and accommodating.
It's a real shame that The Old Station Nursery Group, who have recently taken over, at Sixpenny
have not been the same. They have raised the costs to ridiculous levels including extra charges for term time attendance, charges for 7.30 to 8am starts and removing half-day attendance options. Whilst then reducing the portion sizes and daytime activities and not raising the staff wages in line with the increase in charges to the parents.
I can't fault the Sixpenny staff, they do a fantastic job but really dislike The Old Station Nursery Group. It's a shame because Sixpenny really was something so special before the takeover. Thankful to all the staff that are still making each day special for the children attending.

The nursery staff are absolutely fantastic, really attentive and supportive in all-round development of my children.

My little boy absolutely loves his days at nursery. All of the staff in his room are so friendly and attentive. He always comes home with a smile on his face.
Like all mums, I was hesitant about leaving my child in the care of others, but now I have absolutely no need to worry; he waves me off at

My daughter is so enthusiastic every time we pull into the car park at Sixpenny. She has been going there since she was five months old, and it is her home away from home. Her keyworker and all the other staff are always so enthusiastic and professional, but also the bit I didn't expect is that they
seem to genuinely love and be really interested in my child, for which I am so grateful. It's the best thing we have done to send her to Sixpenny.

My son has been at the nursery for eight months, since just before his first birthday. The staff in the baby room are always friendly and warm and made a huge effort to make sure he settled in well. Our key worker is brilliant and adores my son, is never too busy to stop and tell me all about his day
and show me pictures. Sixpenny Day Nursery is excellent.

My child really enjoys coming into the nursery. The staff are always warm and welcoming. I have a good relationship with my child's key worker and have regular updates on his time throughout the nursery. It is a brilliant environment for children with plenty of educational activities and experiences.
I would highly recommend.

Fantastic nursery. My daughter absolutely loves going to Sixpenny. Her day is filled with amazing activities, and as a mother, I love hearing all about it. Great selection of meals, and the staff are lovely. Also, the outdoor space available really drew us into picking this nursery.

Both of my children have been in the nursery since just before one. They're now three and 18 months old. The staff at Sixpenny are incredible and second to none. The outside space is fantastic, and they absolutely love going.

Children have plenty of space outside. They are also given the opportunity to discover nature (eg plant vegetables, feed animals, walk in a 'forest', etc). Each week the activities relate to different themes, and so, children learn about the weather, space, dinosaurs, etc. Children bring back not only
lots of lovely drawings, paintings and collages but also cupcakes and biscuits. Staff are professional and caring and always happy to inform you about what children have done during the day, what they have eaten, how they were feeling, etc.

Sixpenny is a wonderful setting with vast outdoor spaces, which sets them above the rest. Both my children attend Sixpenny, and I couldn’t be more pleased with my chosen nursery. The staff throughout the building are instrumental in both my children's developments. I am always greeted with a smile and
warm welcome when dropping off and picking up my children. I enjoy hearing about the range of activities they get to take part in daily and love sharing their observations with other family members. The team at Sixpenny do a fantastic job daily.

Excellent performance throughout the pandemic. Great learning starts for my three little princes. Helpful staff at all times. Excellent outdoor activities to make kids more active and fit.

Me and my wife have our second child going through this nursery, and we both agree they do such a great job. Our boys have learnt and grown so much here. Overall care and education are amazing, on special occasions, ie Easter, Mother’s Day, Christmas, birthdays, etc, the boys have always been shown
the importance and made things to bring home.
Very understanding, professional and empathetic staff. To top it off, our eldest was prepped for school, and this gave him the confidence he needed to progress. Could not wish for more. Totally recommend. Such a big decision of what nursery, but these guys made it easy.

Sixpenny is in a wonderful setting with so much outside space in nature with animals dotted around too! The staff are all great and love the children. Lots of different activities, including messy play and making beautiful bits to bring home.

Staff are always friendly and inform you of what our child has been doing during the day. The outdoor space and woodland areas are brilliant, and our child loves spending days at nursery. The nursery varies all activities and always makes learning fun for our child.

Both of our boys have been cared for at Sixpenny since they were little, and they have loved every minute. We chose Sixpenny for their amazing outdoor space as both boys love exploring outdoors, and they always come home telling us about the vegetables they have planted or the animals they have looked
after. Every member of staff and the key worker has been amazing with the boys and has been like an extension of the family. We always get a detailed handover of their day, and they support us with what we are working on at home with the boys and implementing that at nursery.

Absolutely amazing. My daughter is so happy and thriving, and that is down to the amazing staff and the outstanding facilities. My girl is always beaming on nursery days, before and after. She’s coming on in leaps and bounds, and I can send her there knowing she’s getting the best care and education.
Wouldn’t choose anywhere or anyone else to help build up the foundations of my little girl's life.

My son has been at the nursery since September 21 and had grown significantly in confidence. He’s so happy! My daughter started in January 22 and absolutely loves every second of being at nursery. She always goes into nursery waving me away with a big grin.

Our daughter really enjoys going to Sixpenny Nursery and has come along leaps and bounds with her education. She is learning so much about so many subjects, including outdoor activities about wildlife and animals, as well as her reading and writing.

Excellent setting with great facilities. Super friendly staff who are enthusiastic and caring. My daughter loves attending; she has a great group of friends and always does fun activities. At the end of the day, she comes out smiling normally with her hands full of some sort of art or craft she’s created,
which I think says it all. Couldn’t recommend it highly enough!
