A welcoming and inspiring nursery in Great Cornard.

Situated in a purpose-built building and located close to Thomas Gainsborough School, off the Wells Hall Road, Great Cornard Day Nursery and Preschool supports and cares for children from the age of 3 months to 5 years.

Each spacious and homely room has been designed to inspire learning at every opportunity. Children enjoy using the building blocks, painting in the art area, discovering how the world works with science experiments, using the indoor climbing frames, reading in the book corner and playing exciting word and number games. There is a sensory room for use by all ages, where children can relax while learning about different sounds and textures. Every feature is designed to inspire children’s natural curiosity and use their interests as the basis for learning.

Outdoors, Great Cornard nursery features separate age-appropriate gardens with space for the children to play and develop their gross motor skills. Favourites include the slide, balance equipment and the covered outdoor seating area.

Bright Horizons unique Healthy Hearts and Minds activities provide inspirational and engaging learning experiences using the innovative and well-established Boogie Mites active music-making programmes.

Crocus is a very professionally run nursery. The staff are always friendly and helpful and they provide a wide range of activities for the children. The menu is very varied and encourages my child to try different foods. They are always coming up with new learning ideas and activities which can be taken
home. I am very pleased with the standard of care provided.

This is a great nursery, my daughter attended this nursery 7 years ago and was outstanding then too. The staff are all committed to every child's learning and future with excellent communication between staff and parents. Would highly recommend the nursery, their staff and facilities to any new parents.

Wonderful care and very friendly staff. My little boy loves his days at nursery and has such wonderful experiences. He gets to join in lots of activities I wouldn't be able to do at home. He gets to try new foods and enjoy lunch with his friends.

My son has been going to Great Cornard Crocus Early Years Centre for a couple of years now, he very much enjoys going and the staff are very supportive and caring they help to support my son with his needs my son can't wait to get there in the morning. We always get greeted with a smile and when I
pick him up we always get greeted with a big smile from him and the staff tell me everything he's done and eaten which is normally very very well

My 2 children have attended Great Cornard Crocus Early Years Centre and we've been extremely happy with the care they have received, especially the nurturing in the baby room.
Management has been very flexible to our needs when we've needed extra sessions short notice.

I have a 3yr old currently in Crocus and a 4 yr old just left for school.
Both have always thoroughly enjoyed themselves there.
They are always happy to go and never want to leave.
It amazes me how much the staff give to all the children on a daily basis. They are always giving their best, working
hard and are the most genuine caring staff I have ever known in a nursery.
I have never had a complaint in over 2 and a half years.
My eldest was more than ready for school when she left and my youngest is following suit thanks to the support of the staff and their care and attention that goes into teaching the children there.
The manager at the nursery is as involved with the children as anyone else and seems to really support her staff in their progression.
We have had emergencies where on short notice we have had to put the children in for the day and they've always done their best to help us.
They offer holiday clubs which are fantastic and really go out of their way to do exciting things with them

I chose Great Cornard Crocus Early Years Centre because of its Ofsted rating of Excellent, proximity to my workplace and the friendliness of the staff. The only downside is the lack of air conditioning in the main building (it's installed in the baby room) because it's uncomfortable for the children
and the staff when it's summertime. Absolutely no qualms about leaving my child for the day as I know she'll be safe, having fun and being well cared for.

My daughter both now go here and they love it, staff are friendly and there if you need them and both my girls have dietary issues which they accommodate.
My eldest has gone since about a year old and is now 3 and a half and now my youngest has been going around a year.

This is a great nursery where my daughter has been made to feel very welcome and cared for with much warmth.
My daughter has now been going for 3 months and I really do not have anything to complain about. The staff is really good at liaising with the family.

Our son really enjoys attending nursery, he counts down the days until he gets to go back. The staff are always willing to help. They are constantly looking at ways to mix up learning - at the moment they have goldfish, frogspawn and chickens which they hatched which makes it really interesting for
the children. Staff members are always looking at other ways to help the children develop which includes things like using a PE kit and dinner trays so they can do that before they get to primary school.
The children are offered a wide variety of food so they get to try new things all the time. Our son loves learning, he is always coming home with an enthusiasm to tell us what he has learnt that day.

All 3 of my children have attended Crocus. Over the past 10 years and we couldn't have chosen a better nursery. We are kept well informed of what they have been up to each day as well as receiving the weekly newsletter. The staff are all really friendly and it has a real home from home feel about the
nursery. The staff have prepared my children really well for school and I will be really sad when my youngest leaves next year. At least I can still use the holiday club at the nursery!

My son loves coming to nursery and is well cared for by all the staff he has come into contact with. He enjoys the varied menu and different aspects of play. The room he is currently in has helped prepare him for school and adjust for when he starts school.

The Nursery and staff have cared for our son since he was 11 monts old and he is now 4. He is an outgoing and very sociable little boy who is compassionate and loving.
All the staff love what they do and it shows through the children.
He has transitioned from room to room with ease and has really
enjoyed his time with everyone at the nursery.

I have always found the staff to be warm & caring and the manager is excellent. The facilities are great. My son has been happy there from 10
Months old. I am very happy with my choice. My son will probably stay here until he goes to school & my new daughter is likely to go too.

Our daughter has severe and complex needs. Crocus and all the staff have gone above and beyond to cater for her needs. As parents we could not ask for anymore. She thoroughly enjoys her time here, is included in all the activities and spends her days laughing and being pampered. She has progressed through
all the age groups and so we have had contact with most of the staff. All are extremely friendly and caring. It is no surprise to me the OFSTED repeatedly give them an outstanding grading. In my opinion it is well deserved.

Job Title: Nursery Manager

I am the Nursery Manager for Great Cornard Bright Horizons and I have been working in childcare since 1998.


Prior to working here, I worked at another nursery in the baby room and then I worked at a private school, running the baby unit. My career here started as a Room Leader working in a baby room. I was promoted to Nursery Manager after having my second child. I have been working at Bright Horizons Great Cornard since 2003, becoming manager in 2008. I have a Level 4 Qualification in Early Years Practice and have completed my Customer Services NVQ 2 qualification. I am passionate about my 3 children and my weekends consist of taking the boys to football and rugby. I enjoy socialising and meals out with friends and family.

I am the Nursery Deputy Manager for Great Cornard Bright Horizons. I have been working in childcare since 2014 and started my journey here at Great Cornard Bright Horizons in 2020 as a Nursery Nurse.


After 8 months I was promoted to Room Leader, then after 2 years in 2022 I was promoted to Deputy Manager. I have a Level 3 in Children’s Play, Learning and Development, and a Level 4 qualification in Early Years.
