  • Bright Horizons Southborough Woodlands Preschool, Tunbridge Wells
Bright Horizons Southborough Woodlands Preschool is based in a converted school in the beautiful woods of Southborough Common and rated Good by Ofsted in 2018.

The outside space is delightfully designed to blend into the wood surroundings and children enjoy unique activities to keep them occupied for hours.

There is a beautiful tepee for reading, planting, digging and exploring mini beasts which helps children with sensory development. There are continuous learning opportunities outside with the advantage of the woods.

Inside, the rooms are filled with activities to help develop skills necessary for children to learn and understand things around them.

There are four main rooms for each age group each encompassing different activities, and children are given a choice of what they would like to do.

Children ‘learn through play’ throughout the day and staff work a great deal on literacy, numeracy and phonics with the pre-school children.

We are so impressed with this nursery. Our daughter started during lockdown, so we were unable to go in and see where she would play and the garden etc, but we've been well looked after (as parents, in terms of being informed) and our daughter loves it! Highly recommend!

Our daughter really enjoy attending this nursery and has made many friends with both the other children and the staff. The education and fun they provide is excellent and we are constantly amazed by what she has been doing each day, very loving and caring staff.

We absolutely love Woodlands Preschool. Our son started with the team at just 8 months old and is now 3 years old. The setting is great, with a lovely garden, good parking and well-designed rooms full of activities. The staff are brilliant. They really get to know the children they look after and they
have always been wonderful with our son and are great at communicating with us about his development and general happiness! The manager is lovely too and always easy to get hold of.

My daughter started in the baby room in March 2021 and following a year of Covid lockdowns found the transition to nursery very difficult. The baby room team have been so fantastic and supportive in helping her settle. She loves her nursery days now, and smiles when she goes in and comes out! Her development
is coming on so much as a result of her time at nursery where she is observing and learning so much.
The staff are fantastic and so caring and considerate of all her needs. It’s a pleasure to deal with them and I’ve been really grateful for the efforts that have been made to update me on her days particularly when I haven’t been able to go inside with her.
She has been given the opportunity to do lots of activities and I feel it’s helped so much with her movement, eating and her attempts to make sounds.
I’d highly recommend this fantastic nursery!

My 2-year-old boy loves going to Bright Horizons Southborough Woodlands Preschool. In the morning he gets excited when we park. When the door opens he runs in. He loves it so much he doesn’t want to leave at the end of the day.
All the girls who work there are amazing and with everything with Covid,
they made the nursery really safe.
He had a good bond with all the staff even the girls who are not in this room. His key worker keeps me update on his day and his development.

I removed my daughter from a different pre-school to Woodlands and I noticed a huge difference in her behaviour and learning. She was a lot calmer and loved going to nursery, taking part in all the exciting activities the nursery has to offer. I can't thank the staff enough for their hard work in getting
my daughter ready for big school. All of the staff and the manager were genuinely friendly and welcoming. We were sad to leave.

My daughter has been here from September 2019 and has just thrived, her learning and confidence have come on heaps and she is even now potty trained due to the amazing staff helping her.
She eats everything at nursery and the food they have sounds amazing.
The outdoor space they have is huge and
she always comes home talking about the slide and the bike track.
The staff always go the extra mile to meet her individual needs and the management team are extremely welcoming and always so helpful.

The facilities, space, equipment are all excellent at Asquith Woodlands Pre-School, however, it is the staff at Woodlands Pre-School that make it truly exceptional! Everyone is genuinely friendly and welcoming, reassuring and professional. I wouldn't want any other nursery to look after my children
and I would highly recommend to any parent. My son has had a fantastic start thanks to all the team, for their encouragement, patience and kindness.

I love Woodlands Pre-School, my son has been here since he was young and thrived. All the staff from the manager to teachers are amazing, approachable, friendly and wonderful with the kids. They all love them. My son looks forward to coming and tells us about the things they do from art to gardening,
sports and play. I cannot rate Woodlands highly enough.

My son has been at Woodlands Pre-school since he was 2 (he's now 3.5 years old), and always loves going. It has been a comfort knowing how much he enjoys going. The staff have all been wonderful and it has been lovely to see my son grow and develop into a wonderful boy while he is in their care. I wouldn't
hesitate in recommending Woodlands Pre-school.

My 2 year old little girl has just completed her transaction from the Nursery to the Pre-School without any hesitation at all. The Manager and Assistant Manager have been amazing throughout the Settling-In Sessions and have overlooked and monitored their staff to ensure that there was no discomfort,
or heartache, from either myself or her. I was told each day how she was getting, which was so reassuring. I genuinely feel that they care for my little girl, they have such a good bond and are amazing at bringing her out her "morning strops". It's a pleasure to see and I trust them entirely. My little girl is now thriving at Pre-School, she enjoys every day, comes back all excited with stories to tell, and it's clear to see how much she loves going.

A warm, welcoming nursery with plenty of options for settling your child. Staff make a huge effort to vary the activities and bring in interesting objects from home.
The handover is amazing and so continuity of care and learning between home and nursery is great.
All children are given an opportunity
to express themselves and a chance to speak in a supportive environment.
Admin can be tedious and occasionally disorganised but is necessary and I would rather this so that the focus is actually on the children!
Children have a ball with friendly staff and the meals are fantastic. Varied and balanced.

We've been totally thrilled with our Woodlands experience for our two sons, one of whom is preparing to leave preschool tomorrow! Both of them love the warm, friendly staff, the wide variety of learning opportunities and especially the magical outdoor area set next to the wonderful woodland setting!
Thank you for all your help and support. We couldn't be happier! We feel very lucky to have Woodlands Pre-School so near to us.

Fantastic nursery! The staff are very friendly and competent. My daughter has been going to Woodlands for 2 years now and after the several settling in sessions, she loves it. Woodlands manage my daughter's allergies extremely well and cater to her every need. My daughter thrives exploring in the garden
especially the mud kitchen. I would thoroughly recommend Woodlands, staff make it a stress-free experience.

Woodlands has given my children a warm, caring and educational environment to develop in whilst I work. All the staff are professional and hands on. They really get to know your child individually and what works for them. My 2nd child took a while to settle into the preschool room but the staff were
patient and made his transition as smooth as possible over the time he needed. I cannot recommend Woodlands highly enough. I don't feel like I need to worry (a parents favourite past time!). When my children are in their care, they are safe, looked after and loved. After 7 1/2 years in our lives, I'll be sad to say goodbye when we leave for school next year.

My daughter has been at Woodlands since Jan 2016 and she absolutely loves the staff and the environment. From a nutritious meal plan to well-structured activities throughout the day, focusing on developing her skills and enjoyment of learning - I know that she is being incredibly well taken care of
and is truly happy. The staff at Woodlands really care and develop wonderful bonds with the children - we are so lucky to have found this place, and would, and do, heartily recommend it to anyone.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.972)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.972) out of 10 for Bright Horizons Southborough Woodlands Preschool is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.917 for Bright Horizons Southborough Woodlands Preschool is calculated as follows: ( (66 Excellents x 5) + (6 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 72 Ratings = 4.917
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.055 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bright Horizons Southborough Woodlands Preschool is based on 6 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 = 3.6
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 66 number of registered child places is 13.2. 6 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.2 = 0.455
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
