I always ask them about their favourite part of their day when we have dinner around the table together and they can never think of one because they loved the whole day there. I can't praise the staff there enough for how much they reassured me how they would be when they attend as I worked in another nursery myself and as a manager and see the negative side of nurseries a lot but this one exceeded my hopes and expectations for my children, they always tell me they're doing engaging activities and tell me all about the friends they've met and how lovely the food, toys and staff are. Child staff ratio is not abided by and their procedures and policies leave no room to ensure children are seen and supported as individuals, with individual needs. I would never again go anywhere near Pennies with any of my children. Considering they are the most expensive nursery around, it is shocking just how poor their care is of children. Pennies offers average childcare, and even that is not consistently safely delivered (e.g. when the child-staff ratio is not adhered to), placing children at potential risk.

Pennies prides itself on communication and transparency with Parents, our Nurseries operate an open-door policy for families to discuss concerns. It's my understanding you approached a Manager on your settling-in visit about your child's individual needs not being met; the Manager explained why we couldn't fulfil your request in the baby room, due to it not being suitably set up for potty training. Though you didn't agree, you accepted her explanation continuing your child attending. Receiving your written notice and complaint, we launched an investigation of your claims of the room being out of ratio, looking back at staff rotas and room rotas, we can't locate a time the room was out of ratio or running at the capacity of children you claimed in the room at the time. The Manager responded to your complaint via email; subsequently, we have offered to meet to discuss concerns, our findings from the investigation and to discuss in depth why we have policies and procedures in place.

Hi, my name is Sarah-Lou, and I started Pennies at Hockers Lane in 2001 as a Level 3 Practitioner. Before joining Pennies, I worked for another family-run company, and during this time, I completed a Level 2 and 3 NVQ in Childcare and Education. In 2005, when Newnham Court opened, I decided to take a new post there. During my time at Pennies, I have gained experience working with children from 3 months old to 11 years old. I have also had 2 children of my own, Millie and Jake. In 2016, I took on a Development Coordinator role at Pennies, which allowed me to work with all 3 nurseries and to support each setting with their CPD. I came back to Hockers Lane as Deputy Manager, and in 2026, I moved to Newnham Court as a Deputy Manager.
