The company is named after its founder – Penny Scotton – and continues to adhere to her vision of offering; ‘the very best in childcare, learning and fun’

Purpose-built to their own specification and opened in 2005 between Maidstone and Bearsted this site hosts nursery services and a home for Breakfast, After School and Holiday clubs. Air-conditioned and equipped with under-floor heating and two fully fitted kitchens; parents describe Newnham Court as ‘welcoming.’ It is bright and lively with extensive gardens and outdoor play facilities. Newnham Court was graded as good by Ofsted (March 2022).

Pennies is a much-loved nursery by our daughter. Our experience at Pennies has been very positive and much credit to all staff who pay such focus on our daughter's development.
Special mention goes to all the staff, especially a particular staff member in Little Lunars, who always goes above and beyond.
No task feels like it's too much. Thank you and keep up the good work.

Both our children have gone to Pennies and one is currently at Little Lunars. Both our daughters loved every room and the connection with all the ladies is amazing. They do a lot of outside play and plenty of arts and crafts. They kindly make little gifts for us to keep as keepsakes. This includes Christmas
decorations and hand prints. The ladies do generally seem to love the kids and light up for each kid that comes in the room. Would recommend!

Pennies is such a kind, nurturing nursery who I cannot recommend enough. My son loved attending from 12 months until 4 years old. He now attends the PKC holiday clubs with his sister, loving the fun activities they complete.
The staff are all really caring and always put the children first.
My son
had various allergies and the kitchen worked with us to make sure he always had a delicious meal and didn't feel left out when others had treats such as cakes.
The facilities are great - especially the huge garden and outdoor toys.
They know all of the children so well and support with all aspects of their care - thank you to all the staff for all the fun, care and nurturing you provide.

Our youngest child is now attending Pennies at Newnham Court and we are just as thrilled with the care she receives, the opportunities for indoor and outdoor play, huge variety of activities, crafts and games as we were with our eldest.
The staff in the rooms are excellent, they really get to know
each child and build great relationships with them and with us as parents. She is so happy to attend each day and tells us about the friends she's made and things she's done.
The management team and the facilities are all excellent too, and she loves the food which is a huge bonus for us!!

Pennies is a home away from home. A little professional haven for little ones. After 4 years at Pennies, my daughter not only flourished but made some healthy relationships, and is confident, eloquent, and way ahead of her peers. She has not completely left Pennies as we still use PKC.
So, if you
are looking for a place where you don't have to worry about what your little one spent the day doing, what they ate or did not eat, who played with, and where their interests lie, then get your little one into Pennies.

My daughter attended Pennies from 10 months until she went to school. She was tough to settle, to begin with having just come out of lockdown the staff were absolutely amazing taking time to settle her and reassure me (when I had a wobble) that in time it would all be ok and they couldn't have been
more right.
She went from room to room becoming more confident and independent until eventually it was time to go up to the preschool room and she was transformed.
Now after starting school she is still thoroughly enjoying going to Pennies after school at PKC.
I couldn't recommend pennies enough.

My son and daughter have an amazing time at Pennies Kids Club, they come home with the most interesting stories and creative work they've made there. I always ask them about their favourite part of their day when we have dinner around the table together and they can never think of one because they loved
the whole day there. I can't praise the staff there enough for how much they reassured me how they would be when they attend as I worked in another nursery myself and as a manager and see the negative side of nurseries a lot but this one exceeded my hopes and expectations for my children, they always tell me they're doing engaging activities and tell me all about the friends they've met and how lovely the food, toys and staff are. Thank you for looking after my babies, Pennies Kids Club, cannot wait to book them in for the December holiday club!

My experience with Pennies has been extremely poor, from start to finish. Child staff ratio is not abided by and their procedures and policies leave no room to ensure children are seen and supported as individuals, with individual needs. I would never again go anywhere near Pennies with any of my children.
Considering they are the most expensive nursery around, it is shocking just how poor their care is of children. Pennies offers average childcare, and even that is not consistently safely delivered (e.g. when the child-staff ratio is not adhered to), placing children at potential risk.

We have had an amazing experience with Pennies Day Nursery - Newnham Court, Maidstone. They have taught my child a lot including communication, friendship and teamwork. The summer fun days they have yearly are a special treat for both kids and parents. The atmosphere is always happy and it's a lovely

My Daughter has been going to Pennies Day Nursery - Newnham Court, Maidstone since 2020 and soon she will be going to Infant school. I can't thank Pennies enough for the support and encouragement and care all the staff at Pennies has shown her. Pennies has given her a great foundation for her development
and learning, she is confident, independent and happy, she has made friends and loves her key workers. My daughter was slow to develop in some areas and the staff at Pennies were on it, they monitored, encouraged and supported her in her language, behavior and understanding.
Thank you Pennies, as a working mum it has been invaluable to have you providing her with a variety fun activities, different meals and learning opportunities that I would never have been able to do, especially messy play.

After visiting stay and play at Pennies, Newham court I must say I am blown away at how amazing and professional a certain member of staff was in shooting stars! She interacted with all the children and even the parents, she was so welcoming I really recommend this nursery to all parents/carers.

My son absolutely loves coming to the Pennies Kids Club during the school holidays. Every day of every week is so varied, it's clear they put a lot of effort into planning each day to make sure it is jam-packed with activities. They also do 1 or even 2 trips per week ranging from the zoo to the beach!
I've been so impressed and more so my son loves to go which is the most important thing. Thank you Pennies

  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

My journey in the Early Years started 25 Years ago; 20 of these years have been in a Management position. I have worked with all age groups from 3 months through to 11 years. I strongly believe in the best for every child, and that every child should be acknowledged as a unique individual and given the opportunity to flourish to their full potential.


I believe myself to be level-headed in all aspects of the business and operations, and I enjoy focusing on the development of my team, casting vision, and giving the team the education and tools they need to create a rich environment for the children to thrive within.

Hi, my name is Claire and I have worked at Pennies since 2004. I hold a diploma in child studies and CACHE NVQ level 3 and 4 in children’s care, learning and development. I have thoroughly enjoyed my years at Pennies working my way up to a management position where I am able to help and support staff with their professional journey.


Over the years I have looked after children right from babies up to 11 years but I particularly enjoy the older children in our out-of-school club. My position as nursery manager is one I enjoy the challenge of. Being part of a child’s start in life is a rewarding career and I believe it is important that children can develop and flourish in a safe and secure environment.
