Your Co-op Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-school Watford Junction is right in the heart of the centre of the town and is based on one of the platforms of Watford Junction train station, making it ideal for commuting parents and their families.
They are big on safety which is why ALL their staff are paediatric first aid trained. They have 5 Little Pioneers who help to share their core values with their children such as encouraging them to express their feelings to making a difference in the world.
Their Famly app keeps parents/carers informed about life at nursery with things like photos from their day, assessments, meals eaten and even toilet training progress! They are big on happy children so they have areas for growing food (and eating it) and encourage taking care of each other and the world.
They are silver eco schools accredited, a programme that sees children lead the way in making little changes that have big environmental differences.
Watford Junction has 4 base rooms within the nursery split into the following age groups: one room for 3 months – 16 months, one room for 16 months -2 year olds, one room for the 2-3 year olds and one room for the 3-5 year olds. Each room has access to its own nappy changing facility and children's bathroom area which promotes independence for the children. All rooms have direct access to free flow play allowing access at any time to a large outside play area with a soft surface, grass area and large under cover area.
There is an extensive enclosed garden area which is tastefully sectioned off to provide safe play areas even if all age groups are out at the same time and includes a covered area to enable children to have access to the outdoors in all weather conditions.

About this price
How funding is applied, how the monthly figure is calculated.More info
- Working parents of children aged 9 months to 2 years can usually claim up to 30 funded hours a week. The working-parent hours depend on each parent meeting the minimum earnings rules and earning under £100,000 a year. This nursery stretches funded hours across 52 weeks of the year. You've selected 30 funded hours.
- This nursery applies up to 10 funded hours per day, stretched across 52 weeks of the year. With your selected funding, 21.9 hours are covered each week. Hours beyond this, including the early and late parts of the day, are charged at the standard rate.
- We work out the total cost across the year and divide by 12, so the figure shown is a smoothed monthly average. In practice, nurseries bill in different ways. Some bill monthly at this average. Others bill weekly, or charge for what happened that week or month, which can vary across the year. Confirm billing details with the nursery when you enquire.

My two (almost three) year old attends the nursery and is our second child to have been cared for by the amazing staff. I feel they coped very well with the pandemic and we have never questioned whether we should continue to send our little boy here. All staff members take the time and make the effort to get to know our son and I believe they directly contribute to him being such a happy, content, polite and social person. He receives lots of love and attention from the staff, not only his key worker and he genuinely loves attending.

My daughter started at Co-op Childcare (Little Pioneers) Watford Junction in December 2019 aged 2. She settled well with the help of her amazing key worker. The parent zone app is brilliant. It is updated throughout the day with updates, meals and sometimes pictures. The EYFS framework is used to give updates on my daughter’s progress with specific examples. This is really helpful to see how she is progressing. Communication is always excellent and this is something I really appreciate as a busy working mum. My daughter is now in pre-school and loves it in her new room. She has made great relationships with her new practitioners and lots of friends. Another feature I love is the outdoor garden space which means the children get to play outside every day. This was what initially made me choose this nursery as my daughter really enjoyed playing outside here when we first visited. The convenience of the location is great too. The staff are warm and friendly and highly recommend this nursery!
Very caring, knowledgable staff who look after both my kids and give them individualised learning plans. Kids both greatly enjoy their time there and progress well. Bonds between kids and teachers is also clearly excellent.

My son has really enjoyed the activities at the nursery. These have included yoga, disco, pirate parties and playing in the mud kitchen. There is always a variety of activities on offer, and I like the independence that the staff try to instil in the children.
The staff are friendly and always keep us up to date. They are very good with the children, and this is shown in how much the children all praise their teachers.
I would highly recommend the nursery, and have done to some friends who now send their daughter there. It is clean, safe and very conveniently located in Watford Junction Station.

Every parent wants to know their child is safe, cared for and enjoys nursery, the ladies in the Ladybirds room do that and so much more. They run an efficient ship and we were able to adopt their routine before our daughter joined so that she was already used to the right nap and mealtimes. They have been superb when dealing with her reflux, they have used initiative and experience to adapt situations, e.g. distracting our very mobile daughter after a bottle to ensure she has some rest time and checking on her in the cot often to ensure any reflux is caught early. Ladybirds room also look after Mum and Dad, we can ask questions and time is given to explaining the answers, as first-time parents we think ourselves lucky to have access to their knowledge, we adopt hints and tips on how to encourage development at home and are confident that the care our daughter gets whilst we are at work is excellent.
Lovely friendly nursery, my kids have been both going since 9 months, we love the staff, they are very helpful and the kids love them too. Always clean and professional and children are always progressing. Great menu too.

As a mum, I have complete peace of mind sending him there. I know he is in good hands. There are some nurseries which might be noted higher by Ofsted but I think the care at The Co-operative is outstanding and the attention given to each child is unique and very good. I'm very pleased and wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Great nursery, very knowledgable and supportive staff. Only issue is the pickup as getting out of Watford junction car park can be painful at peak times.

Both our sons have attended this nursery and both have loved their time there. Our eldest son loved it so much we didn’t question whether to send our youngest there despite there being a nursery attached to my eldest’s school. The nursery is well led, the staff are amazing - like leaving your children with extended family. We trust them wholeheartedly. Both boys blossomed in their care - becoming sociable and confident boys more than ready for school. I remember how much it pulled on my heartstrings sending our eldest to nursery but choosing this nursery for him, and his brother was one of the best decisions we have made on their behalf.

They keep me updated on the day he has had and are happy to chat through any queries etc. The convenience of being so close to Watford Junction is worth paying a bit extra for in my opinion, as a commuter. We are really happy we chose this nursery.

They are very attentive to individual children's needs. My daughter was intolerant to cows milk as a baby and made sure her diet was dairy free and gave her soya alternatives. Like I said my daughter loves going and is very happy there and that is my priority.
Very lovely carers and friendly environment. My son has blossomed at the nursery. Cannot ask for more. It’s like a second home for him.

The nursery setup is located at a convenient location and opening times are very suitable for parents who commute from the train station. The nursery can improve in cleanliness in some rooms and providing more attention to kids hygiene.

Thank you for your comments, we take great pride in our nursery provision so are disappointed to hear of your concerns around cleanliness. Your Nursery Manager will be contacting you for more detailed feedback and we hope to resolve your concerns as soon as possible.

Staff turnover is low so that really helps with my children feeling comfortable. Each day when I pick up, I get a full download of their day.
I have no hesitation in recommending this nursery.
