A WELCOMING AND RURAL NURSERY IN SAFFRON WALDEN.

The bright, inspiring nursery in Saffron Walden provides exceptional care and education to children from 3 months to 5 years.

They focus on understanding every child’s unique personality and interests, and use these to encourage learning and exploring. Each room features age-appropriate toys, activities and equipment to inspire children’s natural curiosity. The children particularly enjoy the reading nooks, dedicated art corner and building blocks, as well as taking part in imaginative play in the construction role-play area.

The nursery also practices Growing Enhancements – a unique Ready for School programme focusing on reading, writing and mathematics – to support your child in their transition from nursery to school. Growing Enhancements also include Creative Cooks, Active Athletes and Growing Artists, allowing your child to express their creative side and discover new passions.

Outside, Saffron Walden Crocus has plenty of space to discover nature. There are climbing frames, raised beds for gardening, tricycles, an up-and-over tunnel and various outdoor games – all sectioned into age-appropriate gardens and surrounded by greenery.

The nursery is located on the grounds of a secure school location with gated entry and ample onsite nursery parking. The nursery has great links to local bus routes and all-inclusive fees feature nappies, wipes, meals and snacks – giving you less to pack on busy mornings.

The team at the nursery would love to meet you and your child, so book a visit today and the team will show you all the nursery has to offer during your own personal tour.

We are really happy that we chose to send our son here. The staff are so friendly and helpful and take as much job out of our son's achievements as we do. The food is outstanding and it is so reassuring to know that our son is having such a balanced and nutritional diet when he is there.

Both our children have gone through the nursery and have loved their experience here. They built strong relationships with all their key workers, including all the staff here. My daughter is a coeliac and if it wasn't for the excellent 6F diet provided to her- her recovery from diagnosis would not have
happened so quickly. The staff did a fabulous job of making her feel included. We will miss all the staff here and so will our children.

The staff are very helpful and caring. They always take time to find out how the children are each morning and explain how their day has been each evening. They contact us regularly and provide weekly newsletters. I know who to contact if I need anything. Both my daughter and son have been well cared
for and development has been excellent.

We have had a fantastic time at Crocus Early Years. The staff have all been very caring and engaging and the twins love coming. The food is great and they have been particularly good with our fussy eater. The outside space is good and the range of activities and opportunities to learn are also first
class. The twins will really miss it.

Both my children have had a delightful time at Crocus Early Years. The staff are truly caring, supportive and professional. They've given my children a great basis for heading to school. So many outdoor and varied indoor activities; an onsite chef who prepares balanced, filling meals, good reporting
procedures and a genuinely welcoming and understanding atmosphere.

The team at Crocus Early Years really encourage learning but in a fun way. The correspondence you get is regular and informative. The staff support you if there is something you want to help your child do e.g toilet training.
There is a good variety of food which my child loves. The nursery itself
is bright, open and friendly. I would highly recommend it.

Staff are fantastic - so caring towards the children and I trust them 100% with my baby.

It was a difficult time leaving my daughter at nursery at first, she was so young but the staff there made it so much easier for me.

The activities they do have really improved my daughter's skills especially

social! She is so much better being around other children now.

Everything about being in this place has benefitted my daughter and I am so pleased I chose them.

The nursery is fantastic. My daughter loves going to nursery and will happily wave bye to me and even walks in the door as soon as it opens without holding my hand.
I cannot thank the staff enough for their dedication and care of my daughter. It is so evident they care about her wellbeing and growth.
Would highly recommend the nursery to anyone looking. I trust them truly with my precious daughter.

Our daughter started nursery this month and the team at The Crocus have been very supportive to both our little girl and myself! We had not left our child in care before and had our concerns but the staff at the nursery helped us introduce our little girl to the setting in a way she felt relaxed as
possible. Starting with an hour of play with me in the room and building up to her being left on her own for a whole morning session. Our daughter immediately bonded with her key worker which made dropping her off in the morning so much easier. Today she left me happily chatting about how she might get to see the "baby lambs" at the farm!
The Crocus have excellent food allergy policies which are re-assuring as our daughter has multiple food intolerances. They have gone out of their way to buy particular "free-from" products just for our daughter.

This is a fantastic nursery. They take great care of my little girl who has been there for a year and a half now. They have always had time to listen and help me out with any difficulties I have been having with my daughter. They are knowledgeable and able to give really helpful advice. My daughter
loves it there and is really thriving.

My eldest daughter attended nursery and preschool here and was very happy. She made some great friends during her time here and still talks about how much she misses it, even though she is now at (and enjoying) school. My youngest daughter recently started full time in the baby room and settled in really
quickly. Overall we're very happy with the care of our children and the lovely supportive nature of all staff at the nursery.

Wonderful staff who take an interest in childrens development. The food provided is healthy and the menus seem well-balanced. At pick up the staff give information on how your child has been throughout the day, which is nice to hear. The baby room is clean and has plenty of activities for the children,
as well as a small outside area when the weather is good. The location benefits from being close to the farm based at the High School and there are lovely playing fields around the nursery for walks.
My main issue was the staff retention during my daughters' time at the nursery. She had 4-5 different key workers during her year there, due to staff leaving. However, all them were lovely and my daughter has not suffered because of this.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.957)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.957) out of 10 for Bright Horizons Saffron Walden Crocus Early Years Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.845 for Bright Horizons Saffron Walden Crocus Early Years Centre is calculated as follows: ( (71 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.845
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.112 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bright Horizons Saffron Walden Crocus Early Years Centre is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 85 number of registered child places is 17. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 17 = 0.412
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
