A WELCOMING AND RURAL NURSERY IN SAFFRON WALDEN.

The bright, inspiring nursery in Saffron Walden provides exceptional care and education to children from 3 months to 5 years.

They focus on understanding every child’s unique personality and interests, and use these to encourage learning and exploring. Each room features age-appropriate toys, activities and equipment to inspire children’s natural curiosity. The children particularly enjoy the reading nooks, dedicated art corner and building blocks, as well as taking part in imaginative play in the construction role-play area.

The nursery also practices Growing Enhancements – a unique Ready for School programme focusing on reading, writing and mathematics – to support your child in their transition from nursery to school. Growing Enhancements also include Creative Cooks, Active Athletes and Growing Artists, allowing your child to express their creative side and discover new passions.

Outside, Saffron Walden Crocus has plenty of space to discover nature. There are climbing frames, raised beds for gardening, tricycles, an up-and-over tunnel and various outdoor games – all sectioned into age-appropriate gardens and surrounded by greenery.

The nursery is located on the grounds of a secure school location with gated entry and ample onsite nursery parking. The nursery has great links to local bus routes and all-inclusive fees feature nappies, wipes, meals and snacks – giving you less to pack on busy mornings.

The team at the nursery would love to meet you and your child, so book a visit today and the team will show you all the nursery has to offer during your own personal tour.

This is a lovely nursery and I recommend it all the time. My eldest child finished here a year and a half ago and my youngest is still there. The staff are welcoming, kind and patient with the children and there's lots of different toys and games to do every day, which keeps things fun for the kids.
There's also a lot of outdoor play and active learning, which has gone down well with my two. Both my children have bonded well with their key workers and made lots of friends. I also appreciate the time taken to speak to each parent at pick up to explain how the day went, what they ate, how long they slept etc. I missed this feedback when my eldest started big school!

The Crocus is a lovley nursery through to pre-school. It's primarily a nursery, which is my main use for Crocus, with the added bonus of a pre-school room. With both my two children, I can see the added value each room has had to their development. Baby room has provided exposure to other children,
different toys and activities. The Rose Room (toddlers) has helped with socialisation, building friendships.
Pre-school provides the chance for my children to establish relationships. Prepare to be more independent.

Our daughter attended the nursery full time. In the whole time that she went she never once asked to not go to nursery which for me shows how much she enjoyed her time there - which in my view is the singularly most important opinion.
The staff at the nursery have been great and provided her with the
love and care that she needed with all the cuddles and one-on-one time that she likes.
The food was amazing - the variety of food she got to try and expose her taste buds to different types of tastes and textures has made my life at home and for when we go out, much easier.

My only gripe would be the constraints placed upon the nursery in her learning wrt writing - in that they were not allowed to show them how to write unless the child expressed a specific interest - which for her was ok, because she did show an interest, but as they are teaching the children to count, I think the basics like learning to write their own names etc should be taught.

I definitely recommend Saffron Walden Crocus Early Years Centre.

My daughter joined when she was 6 months old and loved every moment of her time with the staff and friends at Crocus. I was so grateful for the help and support I received, especially as a single mum working full time. The manager and her team are kind, caring and always very welcoming.
The nursery
is in a great location and having access to the farm is an added bonus for the children. My daughter is now in reception and we will both have such fond memories thanks to Crocus. I would recommend to all - and even did, as my friend's daughter is now also there! A huge thank you!

My daughter spent over 2 years at Saffron Walden Crocus Early Years Centre from the age of 2 3/4 to nearly 5. My review mainly refers to preschool where she spent most of the time. The staff were consistent, caring and experienced. There were always a fantastic range of activities and the food was great.
Management was superb, always available and attentive. I have been delighted with the care my child has received.

The staff at Crocus Nursery did a fantastic job looking after during her time there. She started nursery being a very shy and timid little girl and left being very outgoing and confident.

The staff are well trained related to their jobs, they can do any connection to asses the children according to education lines, they take care of the child wishes through observing them well. Staff are very good to provide the information to the parents about the child's likes and dislikes as they
spend more time with them, especially the parents that work. Bright Horizons (Crocus Nursery at Saffron Walden) has good management.

Current Review Score: 9.0 (8.957)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.0 (8.957) out of 10 for Bright Horizons Saffron Walden Crocus Early Years Centre is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 7 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.1 out of 5 from 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.845 for Bright Horizons Saffron Walden Crocus Early Years Centre is calculated as follows: ( (71 Excellents x 5) + (13 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 84 Ratings = 4.845
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.112 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bright Horizons Saffron Walden Crocus Early Years Centre is based on 7 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 85 number of registered child places is 17. 7 Positive Reviews ÷ 17 = 0.412
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
