Jack in the Box Day Nursery in Slough opened in 1992 and registered at these premises in 2004. It operates from a single storey building within the grounds of Upton Hospital in Slough.

Children are cared for by experienced and highly qualified staff who offer an interesting, educational environment full of experiences which allow the children to explore and grow.

Berkshire Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust owns and operates three nurseries in Berkshire which are open to everyone; parents do not need to work for the Trust in order for their children to attend.

Each nursery has stimulating outdoor play areas and children are encouraged to spend time outside developing their gross motor skills and having fun with their friends. Inside you will find warm, cosy environments which are perfect for children to take part in numerous creative and entertaining activities.

The nursery offers the 30 hours funding and is registered to accept Tax-Free Childcare payments.

Funding & Fees

  • The nursery is open to all families who wish to use the service.


    We have 3 options for attendance.


    •   Option 1 Combination of free* and paid hours for the 15 and 30 hours funding stretched over 51 weeks = 11 or 22 hours free per week with all other hours charged for, based on a 10-hour day. Minimum attendance of two days per week. A month’s deposit is required, and fees are charged monthly in arrears.


    •   Option 2 All hours are paid where children are not eligible to receive funding, based on a 10-hour day. Minimum attendance of two days per week. A month’s deposit is required, and fees are charged monthly in arrears.


    •   Option 3 Free hours only* for the 15 and 30 hours funding = 11 or 22 hours free per week for 51 weeks per year with no charge made for this attendance and no deposit payable.


    •   *For options 1 & 3, the times of the free hours are as specified below ONLY
    •   15 hours = 11 hours. 5.5 hours free on days one and two between the hours of 9.30am-3.00pm.
    •   30 hours = 22 hours. 7.5 hours free on days one and two between the hours of 9.00am-4.30pm and 7 hours free on day three between the hours of 9.00am-4.00pm.


    All attendance is over the 51 weeks that we are open. We do not offer term-time only places.


    There is a 9.5% discount for full time attendance of 5 days per week. A 9.5% sibling discount is offered against the eldest child's fees.


    Staff working for Berkshire Healthcare Foundation Trust have separate fees.

My four year old has been going here for over two years and will be ready for school this September. She loves her nursery, teachers and the friends she has made there. The communication from the nursery is very prompt, the staff are very friendly, courteous and have the care of my daughter at their
heart. Of course no nursery is perfect and I could not pick on things but I have had no serious concerns that I have had to bring up with the nursery since my daughter has joined.

I visited many nurseries before Jack in the Box Nursery but this nursery felt different as soon as I walked through the doors for the tour. It felt such a warm, homely and nurturing environment. My child has been attending for eighteen months now and she loves it. Everyday she comes out telling me all
of the exciting things she has done during the day. The staff are all warm, caring and have genuine affection for the children. There is plenty of outside space for the children to do activities and the inside is clean and spacious.

We sent both of our children to Jack in the Box from being babies right up to going to school. What stands out to me about this nursery is the staff - every single one of them seems to genuinely care for the children and love to tell you what they have been doing with their day and how they are getting
on. You are greeted with a smile and everybody says hello and knows your child's name and temperament. Both of my kids have always skipped into nursery in the morning and only get upset when it is time to come home! The garden is a lovely resource and the activities on offer really aid their development. I looked around a lot of nurseries and you will find others with more modern facilities (and much higher fees!) but I did not see any that matched the happy atmosphere of Jack in the Box. I would thoroughly recommend this nursery to all of my friends.

It took my child a while to settle in but the nursery were and have been so accommodating. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and they greet us every morning and afternoon with a smile. They have accommodated my child’s nutritional needs without any issue. I feel the nursery have worked hard
to ensure safety during the pandemic without compromising on the child's experience. My child is happy at nursery and loves to play outside in the garden area (which is big with lots of outdoor toys/activities for the children to play with/do). I have found that his confidence has grown. It’s a lovely atmosphere and I would recommend the nursery to all.

My daughter started to attend this nursery a few months ago and it already made a huge difference. She settled really well and very fast and that is only because the staff is so friendly and caring. She started to talk here, she learned to play nicely with others and to be part of activities. We get
daily reports of how she's been, and monthly reviews which helps us to keep a track of her growth and learning. We wholeheartedly recommend it!

My daughter settled in really well, and I was impressed with the number of settling in sessions she was allocated prior to starting. She has been able to build a really strong relationship with her key worker, and will often excitedly exclaim her name on the way in, in the morning. She absolutely loves
attending the nursery, and it's nice to see her so excited about going. The team have continued to offer brilliant care throughout the pandemic, and I am aware that they have worked hard to ensure safety without compromising on the child's experience. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer any queries.

My son attends the Piglets room and he absolutely loves it there. They do a lot of activities - arts and crafts, games and songs. The outdoor area is spacious. The staff are friendly and have a really good relationship with the kids. Really great start for his learning journey.

Love the care taken for kids in the nursery. Staff care and closeness to the kids. This has helped my child learn many, he started learning new words daily or weekly which surprises us, taking care of himself and others.
All the staff in the babies room I would 5/5.
And also not to forget care taken
by the staff member providing hot food.

My child has been attending this nursery for almost 4 months now. I knew he was going to have a hard time settling in given he had been home for months due to Covid situation, but the staff is so loving and warm that I am not surprised that he has a great time at the nursery now. The staff is also very
good with remembering the little things that I tell them about my child. I am also very pleased with the artwork I get to see every now and then. Overall - very happy!

The nursery is super spacious and hygiene is very well maintained. The staff are very friendly with the parents and kids; they are highly dedicated to their duty. Being sincere at discharging their duties and responsibilities towards babies and toddlers, not sure how most of the staff are at their best
energy levels at 6.00pm in the evening. I wish I’d get to learn it from them.
The activities the kids have at the nursery are very interesting and indeed builds a zeal in them to be more creative and healthy. The food menu is planned absolutely perfect as per the nutritional requirements for kids. The kid's distribution among the various rooms as per the age and the activities planned for them are apt. The communication and response from the management is super prompt. My kid chants for his nursery and the names of his key persons while in his sleep..!! He loves his nursery to that extent.

My son has attended the nursery for around 2 years now and is very happy with attending. The nursery have always been supportive of his needs, liaised with us to further his devils meets and been understanding of his disabled older sister who may attend pick-ups or drop-offs.
My son is always excited
when it’s his days to attend, referring to the workers by name. We are very happy with how he has progressed!

It's one of the best nurseries in Slough. I could see lots of positive changes in my son since he started going to Jack in the Box Nursery since September 2020.
Staff are very friendly and attentive to the children. They monitor the child's development, growth and provide feedback of the children
and their eating routine.
Ever since going to this nursery my sons have become more confident and communicate with other children in the nursery.
Would definitely recommend this nursery to other parents.

I am extremely pleased with Jack in the Box Nursery. My son progressed a lot since he started nursery, he is more sociable, enthusiastic. My daughter absolutely loves coming to nursery, for us the friendly atmosphere makes dropping and picking up so lovely and it's obvious every day that she has had a fun-filled day. She has learnt so much in her time so far, her speech has improved massively, she has potty trained and knows more songs
than I do! I couldn't be happier with all aspects of the nursery. The staff are great!

If you consider a nursery the most important aspect is the staff, not the nurseries. The staff of Jack in the Box Nursery are all well trained and skilled but most of all caring. My son has flourished under their care.

I was told my son is learning how to write and when he went to reception he couldn't even hold a pencil.
