Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School Maida Vale proudly holds a GOOD rating from Ofsted (March 2023), reflecting its commitment to delivering high-quality early years education and care.

At the nursery, strong community connections are at the heart of the nursery’s ethos. Children benefit from meaningful intergenerational experiences through regular visits to local care homes, where they engage in activities such as storytelling and social interaction, supporting confidence, empathy, and communication skills.

The nursery places a strong emphasis on happiness and wellbeing. Children enjoy hands-on experiences such as growing and tasting their own food, while learning about kindness, sustainability, and caring for the world around them. As a proud GREEN FLAG Eco-Schools accredited setting, Little Pioneers empowers children to actively contribute to environmental responsibility.

Safety and transparency are key priorities. All staff are fully trained in paediatric first aid, ensuring a safe and secure environment at all times. Parents are kept closely connected to their child’s day through the FAMLY app, which provides real-time updates including photos, meals, and developmental milestones such as toilet training.

The setting features seven thoughtfully designed rooms to support each stage of early development: one for babies aged 3 months to 1 year, three rooms for children aged 1 - 2 years, two rooms for ages 2 - 5, and one dedicated space for 3 - 5 year olds. Additional facilities include a fully equipped kitchen, staff room, laundry room, milk kitchen, baby changing areas, and a dedicated training room to support the continuous professional development of the team.

Guided by the 5 Little Pioneers' values, the nursery nurtures independence, encourages children to make their own choices, express their emotions, and develop a strong sense of purpose, empowering them to make a positive difference in the world.

Generally extremely happy with the nursery.
One thing to consider is sometimes the staff can try and be flexible and adaptive in the situations when it comes to care rather than follow the book (occasional dietary requirements, post sickness period)
I met staff that does that and others that are reluctant
to do so and it helps when this element is there. At the end of the day, you are the next closer after parents so it would be great to support parents as well.
Also, one thing I believe you should definitely consider improving is breakfast. Kids have only one option really-cereal. Maybe a few days you can consider toast and butter or something else.

Our daughter has been here for just over a year, and has been really happy here. She has formed close bonds with the staff, and has lots of friends. It is a friendly, caring and supportive environment for her to grow and develop. The staff are great, and evidently care so much about the children. The
outdoor play area is also brilliant, especially given its central location. The staff put a lot of thought into activities, room decorations, and tending the garden.

I can't say enough about how wonderful the Maida Vale Co-op nursery is as I drop my son every day knowing that he is being loved and cared for by people who are passionate and experienced. The manager does such an amazing job, always with a smile on her face and the whole atmosphere is friendly and
accepting. It's an utter pleasure to go there and I always feel welcome. She literally works miracles with no doubt a very tight budget, an old building and with approx 60 staff!

Numerous working environments could learn a lot from her management style. I know I have!

Our daughter started the nursery at the age of 13 months and stayed there until she was just over 3 yrs old. During this time she was in 3 different room (age appropriate) and we had the opportunity to meet all the amazing staff members. Our daughter absolutely loved the place. All staff members including
the personnel from the kitchen and from the office are very professional, helpful and hard working. We will miss them all!

My son joined the coop nursery when he two years old, he settled in well with the help of the professional team in his room.
The manager and her team are amazing, always maintaining high levels of care and hygiene.
The team in the Butterflies room upstairs are genuinely warm and patient with the children.
I always felt reassured leaving my baby with them.

When the time comes and the parents need to leave their child to someone else it’s a huge decision who will be good enough. This Nursery is perfect for all the ages, the workers are amazing and extremely kind. They love the children and could see on them they are enjoying to teach our children without
tiredness. The place is very secure and clean, about the food, even my daughter who is very fussy about it loved it. If I had a second child I would choose them again for sure! Thank all of you for the great job!

My son attended this nursery from the age of 1 up until 3 and a half and he loved it as did I. The staff could not do enough, even those not working in his class knew his name and would say hello in the corridor, like one big family.

His progression there in every area has been amazing especially

in the older classes. Very happy with his nursery.

The Co-operative Childcare Maida Vale has been amazing! We visited just over three years ago and walked out thinking we will never put our child here. We visited again in 2017 and were amazed at the turnaround. The nursery is lovely and we couldn’t be happier. Our child has received the best care ever.
Every evening is a struggle, as he doesn’t want to leave either.
The warm and caring staff really help settle the parents as well as the children. They are very open about children’s day and their development. We are thrilled! The office staff are also very understanding and always listen to parents. I couldn’t recommend it enough.

My son was at the Co-operative childcare in Maida Vale from the age of 2 and thrived under the expert care of the team. He was there full time and was always eager and looking forward to going - like most of his friends. Everybody in the team is very caring and loving and my son built strong relationships
with adults and other children. Management is excellent. I really enjoyed the fact that children play outside a lot and take part in a variety of activities that foster their independence and confidence, such as visits to the local park or even to the neighbouring care-home to bond with older generations. I loved the genuine 'community' feel of the co-op, with many events involving parents and even grandparents. Opening hours are ideal for a working parent.

Our son attended the nursery for 7 months. He has been very happy there and formed good bonds with his teachers, all of whom are very proffesional and caring. We have been really impressed by the Manager and her team. The premises and its facilities are also great. My wife and I would certainly recommend
this nursery.

Our son has been at the nursery for almost a year, and we're really happy with the experience. We were very quickly reassured by the professionalism of the team here, and very confident our son was in good hands. Our son was always happy in the morning to find his friends and caretakers, we could feel
he was genuinely happy in this environment, I can only recommend it to other parents.

My girl flies through the doors when we arrive at the nursery every morning. She loves it. She loves her carers, and I must say they are fantastic, they know each child and care for them with lots of patience and understanding. They ask you about the child if there is anything that they should know
or that has changed from the evening before.

The menu is also very good and I think quite varied. The rooms are large and organised. I also really like the fact that they can go out every day and play sandpit with the tricycles, sandpit, slide and other toys which allows them to share and enjoy the company of kids from other classes.

Current Review Score: 9.2 (9.172)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.2 (9.172) out of 10 for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School Maida Vale is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.878 for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School Maida Vale is calculated as follows: ( (117 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 131 Ratings = 4.878
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.294 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Pioneers Nursery & Pre-School Maida Vale is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 106 number of registered child places is 21.2. 11 Positive Reviews ÷ 21.2 = 0.519
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
