Independent Place Nursery is part of an award-winning outstanding nursery group awarded Ofsted Outstanding again in their recent November 2021 inspection. They are a private nursery which is uniquely situated in the heart of a safe gated complex just an 8 minute walk from Dalston Kingsland station.

The nursery has two fantastic secure outdoor spaces to offer, with the addition of a unique high specification sensory room, dedicated to providing a breadth of experiences for all children.

The main nursery garden boasts a garden oasis with a dedicated water play area which is filled with an incredible array of open-ended play resources, to ensure that children can explore through awe and wonder. The vegetable planting bed means that throughout the year children are able to observe and learn about healthy eating and growing their own vegetables and herbs to use within their weekly cooking sessions with the nursery cook.

The nursery offers three age-appropriate rooms which are equipped with natural age-specific equipment to meet all children's developmental needs. With a natural approach using a range of loose parts and upcycled materials and equipment, they incorporate the Curiosity approach throughout the nursery. Children discover and learn through their explorations of the range of open ended play opportunities with the teaching and learning of the fundamental British values through the incorporation of the Early Years Foundation stage.

The long-serving team ensures consistency for children’s development and strong familiar bonds are made through a key worker system, which supports partnerships with all parents and carers. The online EyLog learning journal allows parents and carers to track children's nursery life and development and share key information.

The nursery employs daily specialist teachers as extra curriculum activities to support children in their earliest years.

Both our children have attended Independent Place from the age of 1 and absolutely love it! The staff are friendly, kind and caring - many have been there for our whole time at the nursery and have formed strong bonds with our children. They put a lot of thought into what each child needs and how best
to support them, and do an excellent job of communicating with parents. The facilities are great as well - our son loves playing football in the garden! We'll be very sad when their time at the nursery comes to an end.

Both of our kids attend Independent Place and it is an amazing nursery. Staff is so caring and going above and beyond to nurture the children and help them to thrive. Early years education is so important and here the children get to spend the day in a stimulating, warm and friendly environment. My
children's teachers know them since they are very small, they know their strengths and weaknesses and try to support them growing into confident but caring little beings. The nursery itself has a very cute garden and is nicely secluded in this residential area, far away from the hectic of Dalston. It is quite small and furnished with attention to detail.

Both my daughters have been at Independent Place from 10 months old to pre-school/reception age, and both have had a wonderful time, creating strong bonds with staff that, in the case of the eldest daughter, have lasted years after she left for school. The staff are wonderful, the facilities and care

Our toddler has been at Independent Place Nursery since May 2024 and we couldn't be happier. The staff are so warm and caring and they do such amazing activities. They are super careful with her dietary needs and she is delighted she is to go in the morning and so excited if she sees any of the staff
outside of nursery hours. I feel like they've had such a huge hand in her development and I am so grateful for the warmth and love they give all the children, I've seen staff literally spend the whole time I was there for an event cuddling an upset settling in the baby in the sweetest way, more than once. They put so much thought into activities and learning, and they listen so much to parents' requests and thoughts. I'll be sad when she goes to school. They also have access to a beautiful garden and the babies have their own lovely garden where they had fun in a paddling pool in the summer described to me as 'nappies and vibes' which I loved.

Our daughter attended Independent Place from age 10 months until she started school aged 4.5. The team is incredibly caring and thoughtful with the children and we always knew she was well looked after. The leadership is great and has been consistent the whole time we've been there. She made great friends
at the nursery too which is down to the efforts the team makes to do a range of activities with the children. In addition, they have a great early years curriculum and she leaves the nursery with excellent phonics and maths knowledge and is definitely ready for school. We feel very lucky to have had her start at Independent Place and would not hesitate to recommend it.

My son went to Independent Place from approx. Aug 2023 - Aug 2024. He was looked after and guided, and his key workers really cared about him in the toddler room. I know the key workers all helped each other out, however, and all were very kind and engaged. They genuinely wanted to do a good job with
the kids and were attached. I also noticed little things like he'd come home having learnt a sign (sign language), and learnt to indicate what song he'd like me to sing, and I credit them with helping him to walk, drink independently, and sit well-behaved at meals. We supported him at home, but I think the support and environment at the nursery really helped too.


They engage in messy play/coordination activities, and have a little garden they make the most of (a real plus in London). Admin: We loved the weekly summaries, a wide range of themed activities, and blog posts so parents get insight into the activities, which some other nurseries don't do. We were sad to leave! My son joined the nursery 2 years ago, it was a big time in his life as we had moved house, moved nursery and given him a sibling in a short space of time. The staff at Independent Place were amazing at helping him to settle, he developed an amazingly close bond with his keyworker which helped him develop
and transition with confidence from the toddler room to the preschool room. He thrived In their close and friendly atmosphere. Loving every day there and enjoying the outdoor space, creativity and extracurricular classes. Our youngest son is now in the toddler room and has the same initial key worker as our first and is loving his time there just as much.

Our 3-week rotating menu is overseen by a child nutritionist. From time to time, we also consult parents and our pre-schoolers about their favourites and for new ideas. The baby's and young children's food and nutrition are very important to us. We uniquely offer mostly organic food and our dedicated chef works 40 hours a week and cooks with the children. Staff are amazing and the activities they hold are brilliant, and my daughter settled well and had a great time at the nursery. Although I would say they could spend more time outdoors and they really need to sort out the pram park (it has been half built with no shelf to slide prams onto - very poorly
designed for the space. However, my huge negative is that head office and management are a nightmare. We had to move our daughter out of the nursery after they made drastic changes to our booking pattern includes hours per day and days of the week - they wanted to up her days but couldn't give us any choice on the day so it became unfeasible for her to attend, we were given under 2 months notice of this, which I think is appalling when they know how long it can take to replace a child. They then promised a leaving party for my daughter which never happened, at the end we were made to feel like she was just a number and it was very un 'Child First' approach.

Sadly, you left in April, and it is now October, so we were shocked to see your review. Our last two inspections were graded, Ofsted ‘Outstanding’. The Ofsted inspector spent time in our outdoor space we are rightly proud of our feedback that the gardens are a magical and exciting place for children and that they love spending time outdoors, where they independently access exciting and challenging resources that add another level of learning, curiosity, awe and wonder for them. The Inspector also stated that the provider’s and manager’s vision is inspirational, which leads to exceptional experiences for learning and development, allowing children to make very good progress. The inspector has stated in the inspection report above that the setting has a highly effective partnership with parents to provide exceptional support and consistency for the children. We have had a brilliant experience with Independent Place Nursery so far. Our daughter has been attending since November and it has made returning to work so much easier for me knowing that she is getting the very best in care and attention. The nursery put a lot of thought and effort into providing
amazing sensory and development activities for the kids every day and they also have external visitors working with the children on things like phonics, movement and singing. The facilities are top-notch, as is the menu which is healthy and diverse. We receive regular updates via an app throughout the day and are often invited in to parents' evenings. The staff are fantastic - warm, very professional and work with our daughter on developmental aspects such as crawling and self-feeding.

Our daughter has attended the baby room of Independent Place Nursery since 1st November 2022. I cannot speak highly enough of this nursery - the work they do with the children, the experience we've had as parents. It is clear that our daughter loves to attend each day for the play and learning activities
provided. We love to see pictures of those activities shared on the app and they have had a fantastic impact on our daughter's development - motor skills, mobility, her curiousness and engagement with the world. Independent Place go above and beyond with study themes, parent days and other events, take-home items that even the babies have produced from their activities. The meal schedule is balanced and varied and has really helped our daughter onto solids. Key workers and every member of staff at Independent Place have been wonderful to deal with - friendly and invested in our daughter and her outcomes.

My daughter attended Independent Place Nursery for a year, from ages 1-2. We absolutely loved it and are so sad she's had to leave due to us moving out of London. The staff are wonderful - knowledgeable, calm, friendly, warm, caring - everything you could possibly want. The nursery itself is brilliant,
lovely big rooms with lots of light and easy access to outdoor space. As it's in a gated development it's away from the main road and feels very safe and secure. My daughter did so many activities I knew we wouldn't be able to do at home, she made great friends there and learnt so much. We would have happily sent her here until school. It's been difficult finding a new nursery that lives up to Independent Place, we were extremely lucky that it happened to be our closest one when we lived in London.

This is a fantastic nursery where the staff and management go to every length to create a welcoming, inclusive and educational atmosphere for the children. My daughter has various learning difficulties, and the manager and her staff have gone out of their way to put a support plan in place for her and
to ensure there are ample opportunities for her to develop and grow with her peers. I can not recommend Independent Place highly enough!
