Independent Place Nursery is part of an award-winning outstanding nursery group awarded Ofsted Outstanding again in their recent November 2021 inspection. They are a private nursery which is uniquely situated in the heart of a safe gated complex just an 8 minute walk from Dalston Kingsland station.

The nursery has two fantastic secure outdoor spaces to offer, with the addition of a unique high specification sensory room, dedicated to providing a breadth of experiences for all children.

The main nursery garden boasts a garden oasis with a dedicated water play area which is filled with an incredible array of open-ended play resources, to ensure that children can explore through awe and wonder. The vegetable planting bed means that throughout the year children are able to observe and learn about healthy eating and growing their own vegetables and herbs to use within their weekly cooking sessions with the nursery cook.

The nursery offers three age-appropriate rooms which are equipped with natural age-specific equipment to meet all children's developmental needs. With a natural approach using a range of loose parts and upcycled materials and equipment, they incorporate the Curiosity approach throughout the nursery. Children discover and learn through their explorations of the range of open ended play opportunities with the teaching and learning of the fundamental British values through the incorporation of the Early Years Foundation stage.

The long-serving team ensures consistency for children’s development and strong familiar bonds are made through a key worker system, which supports partnerships with all parents and carers. The online EyLog learning journal allows parents and carers to track children's nursery life and development and share key information.

The nursery employs daily specialist teachers as extra curriculum activities to support children in their earliest years.

This nursery is fantastic - I am constantly impressed with how lovely all the teachers are and how happy all the children are! My daughter always speaks so fondly of her teachers and her time spent in the nursery. I had full support through potty training and find they are always supportive with any
questions/issues I have. Could not fault this place!

My little girl went to Independent Place from 10 months old. Being our first child, Independent Place was amazing at helping us feel at ease and all of us to settle in quickly. Throughout our time at Independent Place, they have always been there to support and provide fantastic advice on illness and/or
ways to advance development. The activities that they set up have also been fantastic and I've often seen my little one doing yoga moves unprompted at home! The staff are extremely kind and clearly enjoy their time with all the children. My little girl was super happy there and made many friends. I would highly recommend Independent Place to any parent.

If you are a parent considering where to send your little one in this area, then I cannot recommend Independent Place Nursery enough!


My daughter has been going here for almost 2 years and I could not be happier with the genuinely loving care that she receives. All the staff there deserve praise,

but both of my daughter's key workers have been particularly excellent. Also, the manager is just the best! She is constantly improving things, a great mentor for her staff and a trusted adviser for first-time parents like myself.


Another huge plus is the extra daily activities for the kids, which are just fantastic. But the best part is that you can even watch little videos of your little one doing things (like yoga) through the super cool eyLog app. It's brilliant!


Well done everyone at Independent Place Nursery for creating such a wonderful environment for our kids.

Our son has just left Independent Place as we are moving out of the city but we were very sad to go and as someone else mentioned in a review, the nursery is one of the reasons we haven’t moved sooner! He started attending when he was 13 months and has progressed through all the rooms (he’s now 3) and
we have been so happy with the experience. All of the staff are lovely, so kind and caring and have really encouraged him.
He was never very happy at the morning drop off and in each room the staff took the time to cuddle him or distract him until he was settled. They sorted out his naps, encouraged him to eat things he would never try at home, helped with potty training, taught him to count and gave him a very mixed scottish/hackney accent!


The manager is excellent, really on top of things and very good at communicating with parents and encouraging feedback. I would highly recommend the nursery and really hope our new one lives up to their high standard.

My son has been at this nursery since he was 4 months old. So, he has been in all of the rooms and with a variety of carers. I have been really impressed with the high quality of care in all of the rooms. My son has always found a carer who he has grown attached to and really understands his personality
and needs. He has always been involved in a variety of activities, including singing and yoga. He even shows us new tricky moves when he gets home. The management is impeccable and very responsive to feedback. Overall, I cannot think of a better nursery.

I can only find good words to describe this nursery. My son has been with them for about 6 months and he is SO happy! I visited nearly all nurseries in Hackney, since waiting lists were so long in most places and I needed to go back to work after 1 year. Independent place gave me the best feeling after
visiting and I am now amazed with how well it has turned out. It surprises me to see how many different activities the staff can come up with, how lovely the atmosphere always is, staff engages sweetly with the children, children seem happy, excited, kind and are very well behaved. The food must be great as my son sometimes has four portions of it!! All organic and sometimes even home baked scones for tea... Lots of creative play, cuddle, singing and fun it seems at least from a parents perspective.

All 3 of my children have been to this nursery and have been very happy. My smallest child is still there, his sisters enjoy going back to pick him up – they'd love to attend in the school holidays! There is a core of loyal staff who we've known for years. All my children have had the same lovely key-worker
and this continuity has made it easier e.g. when changing rooms, my son was told stories about when his sisters were there, making it feel less scary. Yes, the nursery has great facilities, resources, interesting activities and an organic menu but the bottom line is that I have never had any concerns about welfare – all staff know the children well and are warm and caring towards them. The manager is excellent; approachable, pragmatic and willing to try new ideas and consult with parents. My children have thrived at nursery; finding it interesting and enjoyable – a great start to their early development, making some long-term friendships. I have recommended the nursery to friends.

Our son started at this nursery at 11 months. Although nervous at first, he now loves it and comes home happy every day he is there.


The nursery is very well equipped with water play, sandpit and a lovely sensory room. The outdoor garden has just been redone and looks a lot of fun. Staff are caring

and attentive. Our son enjoys all the activities on offer including the music man (who comes and sings songs with guitar one day a week) and Yoga bugs. We get a written report each day on what he's done, eaten etc.


I have often asked for extra days/breakfasts etc to fit in with last minute changes to my work as a hospital doctor and have found the nursery extremely helpful and accommodating.

My daughter's been attending Independent Place since she was 9 months old. I have been so, so happy with their care. The staff are warm and friendly, they genuinely care about my daughter and I feel they really understand parents and their priorities as well. My daughter has definitely benefited from

Both of my children have attended Independent Place, starting in the baby room and progressing into the bigger rooms. Both have been very happy, secure and well looked after. The staff are kind, caring and very professional, and many of them have worked at the nursery for a number of years. The manager
is exceptional and continues to make improvements and consult with the parents. The activities for older children are fun and well thought out, and the nursery provides an excellent range of outside specialist teachers, which adds variety. Although my children are very different, they have both received personalised care suited to their abilities and interests. My older daughter left nursery well prepared and confident for school, but she still loves to come back and visit staff, who are always welcoming and happy to see her. I have no hesitation recommending the nursery and I'm very grateful to the staff for helping to make their early years so happy and contributing so much to their confidence and development.

My 8 month old baby daughter goes to this nursery and really loves it. The staff are warm and caring, and the nursery has a homely, cosy environment. Their sensory play room is brilliant, and the outdoor play area is great for the older children. It is located in a gated community which is very secure.

I am so pleased we settled on this nursery. Even if I was a stay at home parent I would still want my daughter to go to Independent Place a few days a week. My daughter started there when she was 11 months old and is now almost 14 months. She has developed social skills, communication skills and learned
so much in such a short space of time. The staff there are incredible and her key worker has really made an effort to help us by focusing on areas of development we have requested (like speech and walking). The manager and deputy manager take a vested interest, are constantly improving on things and are very open to suggestions from parents. As a parent I feel like I am really listened to. As a team they often reassess how they can improve things and introduce new learning tools and techniques.


I am 100% confident that my daughter is receiving the attention and care she needs. Everyone is friendly and hospitable and this is reflective of a good and safe working environment. My husband and I sometimes um and ah over moving to a more affordable part of London, but we always come back to the fact that we lucked out with choosing Independent Place and wouldn't want to take our daughter out of it.

This July our daughter moved into the big room and has been learning to use the toilet. So a lot of change at once. the staff/management have been brilliant - very attentive and encouraging. Our daughter has been at the nursery for a year and we have seen a positive change. She is more confident and
talkative!! At every stage we have been well informed and updated by the staff and we have always been encouraged to approach them with concerns and suggestions.

Our little boy started at Independent Place aged just 8 months when I returned to work full time. As a new mother I was anxious about leaving him in the care of others but my fears were quickly put to rest once I got to see up close how my baby was being cared for. Throughout the 11 months he attended
Independent Place he was not only wonderfully nurtured by brilliant staff who made sure all his needs were met but he was also genuinely loved.


The nursery is clean, bright and spacious and that was perfect for our super active little boy as he was able to run around and explore all day long. The sensory room in the Baby Room was also brilliant and had us wishing we would have had something like this when we were kids!


The nutrition at the nursery was fantastic too, with meals cooked daily from organic produce and catering to both meat eaters and vegetarians with pretty eclectic recipes. We chalk down his love of Moroccan chickpea stew and lentil soup to Independent Place!


Our son's development followed suit as he quickly went from crawling to walking within two months and continued to blossom in leaps and bounds. The activities at nursery were quite varied and included painting, exploring textures, Tiny Talk, Theater Bugs and Baby Yoga. We knew that every day he was doing something new/different and we could see it in his developmental progress.


We moved house when he was just 11 months which meant a daily commute of almost two hours from work to nursery and then home but we stuck it out for as long as we could because he was so happy at Independent Place. We simply couldn't bear the thought of taking him away from the people who took care of him so lovingly and reassured us as parents that he was in the best possible environment, Sadly the commute started to take its toll on us and in July, when he turned 18 months, we had to take the incredibly difficult decision to move him to a nursery closer to home. There were tears and sad goodbyes and we promised to stay in touch so they can see how he's growing up and so that he can thank them later for being such an integral part of his crucially important early days. I wholeheartedly recommend this nursery to all prospective parents.

I have been very happy with the standard of care my child receives at Independent Place over the 10 months, the staff are incredibly supportive and caring towards the children and know them all very well. My son is happy attending nursery and sometimes doesn't want to leave at the end of the day. The
activities are varied, including structured activities and child led play. They have French, yoga and sign language among many others, but they are all taught in a fun and interactive way. The nursery is improving too with new furniture, a new computer and some new creative ideas for teaching and learning (the human body project seemed like fun!) He comes back with lots of stories. The Nursery Manager is approachable and friendly and the staff work very hard to create a caring and safe environment for the children. The food is organic and nutritional.

My son has been at the nursery for just over a year now. He loves going and settled in very well, He is very social and has lots of friends there due to the staff encouraging this interaction. They offer and an amazing range of activities on a daily basis including yoga which he loves, he often does
the position at home to show us. I have always been extremely happy with the food offered as all his meals are organic and freshly prepared everyday. The staff are also respectful of our wishes for him not to have refined sugar and monitor this well. Overall its a wonderful nursery which has exceeded our expectations in all areas.

We've been really happy with this nursery. Our son didn't have any problems settling in (aged 8 months) and I feel this is thanks to the staff. There is a warm, friendly atmosphere and all the staff seem to know all the kids by name and take an interest in every one. The daily routines are well structured
and varied, with activities that our son seems to really enjoy. The fact that he is so happy there has made my return to work (10 months ago) stress free!

Very impressed with the range of activities and stimulus available for the children, particularly in the 2-4 year old's room. Including messy play, a computer, learning about the human body and nature as well as more familiar care and training.
Both of my boys (19 months and 4 years) are extremely
happy here and often don't want to leave at the end of a long day. The food is tasty, varied, healthy and organic and they usually eat all of it with second helpings. Recently the little one went on a themed picnic in the park. I can visibly see how happy and stimulated they are as as their worlds are opening up and they are becoming increasingly sociable. The staff are lovely, work tirelessly every day and with enthusiasm. They know the kids well and there is a good atmosphere.

Lisa is the Nursery Manager. She has been working with the Children-First company for over five years and is the company lead SENDco and Independent Place Nurseries Designated Safeguarding Lead.


Lisa is qualified to Level 3 and amongst her other qualifications, she is Makaton trained. Lisa has an exceptionally sound knowledge of development with ages 3 months to 5 years and puts this into practice on a daily basis. Lisa’s passions are early years learning and Parent Partnership.

Claire – Assistant Deputy Manager & Toddler Room Leader.


Claire has been a valued member of the Independent Place Nursery team for over ten years. With extensive experience across all age groups, she now leads our Baby Room, where she plays a key role in supporting our youngest children during their early nursery journey. As Assistant Deputy Manager, Claire is also a vital part of the wider leadership team, contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the nursery. She specialises in helping babies and their families settle in with confidence and comfort, carefully adapting to individual routines and needs. Claire is especially passionate about sensory play and loves creating a wide variety of messy play experiences that help babies explore the world through their five senses.

Kurtys joined Independent Place Nursery in 2022 and brings a strong background in early years education, along with a deep passion for supporting children's development. As Assistant Deputy Manager and Preschool Room Leader, Kurtys plays a key role in preparing children for the transition to school, with a strong focus on building confidence, independence, and essential early learning skills through our School Readiness Programme. Kurtys is enthusiastic about creating a nurturing, inspiring environment where children feel safe, curious, and eager to learn.
