Independent Place Nursery is part of an award-winning outstanding nursery group awarded Ofsted Outstanding again in their recent November 2021 inspection. They are a private nursery which is uniquely situated in the heart of a safe gated complex just an 8 minute walk from Dalston Kingsland station.

The nursery has two fantastic secure outdoor spaces to offer, with the addition of a unique high specification sensory room, dedicated to providing a breadth of experiences for all children.

The main nursery garden boasts a garden oasis with a dedicated water play area which is filled with an incredible array of open-ended play resources, to ensure that children can explore through awe and wonder. The vegetable planting bed means that throughout the year children are able to observe and learn about healthy eating and growing their own vegetables and herbs to use within their weekly cooking sessions with the nursery cook.

The nursery offers three age-appropriate rooms which are equipped with natural age-specific equipment to meet all children's developmental needs. With a natural approach using a range of loose parts and upcycled materials and equipment, they incorporate the Curiosity approach throughout the nursery. Children discover and learn through their explorations of the range of open ended play opportunities with the teaching and learning of the fundamental British values through the incorporation of the Early Years Foundation stage.

The long-serving team ensures consistency for children’s development and strong familiar bonds are made through a key worker system, which supports partnerships with all parents and carers. The online EyLog learning journal allows parents and carers to track children's nursery life and development and share key information.

The nursery employs daily specialist teachers as extra curriculum activities to support children in their earliest years.

Our daughter has attended the baby room of Independent Place Nursery since 1st November 2022. I cannot speak highly enough of this nursery - the work they do with the children, the experience we've had as parents. It is clear that our daughter loves to attend each day for the play and learning activities
provided. We love to see pictures of those activities shared on the app and they have had a fantastic impact on our daughter's development - motor skills, mobility, her curiousness and engagement with the world. Independent Place go above and beyond with study themes, parent days and other events, take-home items that even the babies have produced from their activities. The meal schedule is balanced and varied and has really helped our daughter onto solids. Key workers and every member of staff at Independent Place have been wonderful to deal with - friendly and invested in our daughter and her outcomes.

Lovely nursery - staff are super attentive and our little boy loves it. Great outside space and lots of activities. Started when our boy was 20 months old, we've been there four months so far. The app is great to know how our boy's day is going.

My daughter attended Independent Place Nursery for a year, from ages 1-2. We absolutely loved it and are so sad she's had to leave due to us moving out of London. The staff are wonderful - knowledgeable, calm, friendly, warm, caring - everything you could possibly want. The nursery itself is brilliant,
lovely big rooms with lots of light and easy access to outdoor space. As it's in a gated development it's away from the main road and feels very safe and secure. My daughter did so many activities I knew we wouldn't be able to do at home, she made great friends there and learnt so much. We would have happily sent her here until school. It's been difficult finding a new nursery that lives up to Independent Place, we were extremely lucky that it happened to be our closest one when we lived in London.

Our daughter attended Independent Place Nursery in Dalston from the age of 1 - 2, during which time she learned to walk and talk. She absolutely thrived there. She loved the adults who worked with her and had some great little friends her age. It was clear how much the adults cared about her as well.

This is a fantastic nursery where the staff and management go to every length to create a welcoming, inclusive and educational atmosphere for the children. My daughter has various learning difficulties, and the manager and her staff have gone out of their way to put a support plan in place for her and
to ensure there are ample opportunities for her to develop and grow with her peers. I can not recommend Independent Place highly enough!

My daughter joined when she was 6 months old. The baby room teachers have been so sweet to her, especially as she is the littlest baby in the nursery. My baby is always happy to join the teachers at the start of the day, which is saying a lot since she can get fussy when I put her down. They always
have sensory activities for the babies and great activities.

Our son has been attending the nursery for the past 6 months and he absolutely loves it there! The staff were amazing during his settling in period, making sure he gets all the support he needs and personalised the process to fit to whatever was best for him. He has started attending the toddler room
at the age of 19 months and is now moving on to the preschool room.
The food is wonderful and made on the premises, nursery takes into account parent suggestions as well and changes the menu seasonally.
The staff are all incredibly friendly and create brilliant activities for the kids to keep them engaged and ensure development as well as fun. The manager is very caring.
The garden isn't massive but they have really ensured it is packed with engaging activities, by far one of the best in Hackney.
The nursery is also away from main roads, inside a gated community so there isn't very much traffic around which is great and safe.
Could not recommend this nursery more, if it's within your budget.

Independent Place is a wonderful nursery and my daughter loves it here. Everyone who works there is extremely encouraging and friendly, and their outdoor space is great too. As well as a plethora of activities they have at the nursery, they also have outside professionals come in too, for things like
phonics, yoga, French and music. Food is healthy and varied, and my daughter loves cooking with the Chef every week. Most importantly, I fully trust Independent Place to keep my daughter safe and entertained.

My daughter has been attending Independent Place Nursery since she was 2 years old. She absolutely loves being there and comes home thriving about what she has learnt. The key workers are brilliant and they take extreme care when handling kids, whether to comfort them or to teach them. During our settling
in session, I have personally witnessed their attention to detail and couldn't be more reassured when leaving my child.

We have been with these guys for over nine months now and this nursery has smashed our expectations. The staff are really friendly and genuinely care about the kids. Our little one loves it there and the videos and pictures that get shared via the app show what is happening throughout the day. The structure
of the days is good and we are really happy that activities to develop our daughter are taken into account as much as the fun stuff. Last bit to say is just how well run it is too - you get the impression from the whole team in the rooms to the management staff that common sense is applied along with good governance, which is a great combination for any organisation. My daughter has been at this nursery since she was 4 months old. She is now two and excelling in speech, she’s fully potty trained. She’s caring of others, interactive and glowing at the end of the day. My partner and I have been able to fulfil our full-time roles knowing our daughter is in safe hands.

We’re very happy with the nursery. The staff are all very friendly and they do a big range of activities with the children.
The menu is great, they have a very lovely space and the garden is amazing. My daughter loves going there, she is learning loads of things and loves to do all the activities.

The Independent Place Nursery has been brilliant for us parents and our two kids. They seem to have infinite activities set up that change daily, different weekly themes, a great outdoor space and a sensory room. The key workers are very attentive and the manager keeps everything working smoothly together.
It's a bright open space with cosy corners and nooks set up for each kind of activity. They've got a cook in house making fresh, organic food based on a menu set up with the parents' consultation. The communication with the parents/carers is very open and we get videos and pictures on an app of some moments of our kids which is lovely. They are always updating the equipment, themes, areas, activities, never dropping the ball. Furthermore, they managed working in the coronavirus restrictions' period amazingly well and remained very well organised.

My daughter started at Independent Place just 3 months ago. In this brief time, she has come to love the facilities, staff and activities. She puts on her jacket herself to get out of the house and go to the nursery in the morning. Also from my (parent's) perspective, Independent Place has given me
the comfort to rely on them to take care, entertain and teach my daughter as she becomes a more confident toddler. The specialist teachers are also a highlight (ballet, yoga, storytime imaginations) and our daughter loves the cooking they do with the chef of the nursery each week. Overall, great experience!

A fantastic nursery with warm and caring staff, who have been such a very positive influence in my daughter’s life. Everyone worked very hard to stay safe and open during the second lockdown. The outdoor facilities are excellent for an inner London nursery.

This nursery is fabulous. My son has been here for 18 months since he was 6 months old. The individualised care they give to the children is wonderful and they are a huge support to me as a solo parent working full time. I can trust them 100% and always feel happy and confident dropping my son off in
the morning - this was particularly important when my son had a bad allergy to egg. Their staff and key workers are extremely caring and ensure the children have a lot of fun, but also learn well and develop good relationships and behaviour. The management of the nursery is superb. COVID has been a huge test for them, and they have had very careful and safe processes to protect the children, their families and staff. The manager has done an incredible job of keeping the nursery running over the last year and I have no doubt that this has been down to her and the nursery team’s hard work and attention to detail. This has been such a support to me as an NHS key worker.

Lisa is the Nursery Manager. She has been working with the Children-First company for over five years and is the company lead SENDco and Independent Place Nurseries Designated Safeguarding Lead.


Lisa is qualified to Level 3 and amongst her other qualifications, she is Makaton trained. Lisa has an exceptionally sound knowledge of development with ages 3 months to 5 years and puts this into practice on a daily basis. Lisa’s passions are early years learning and Parent Partnership.

Claire has been a valued member of the Independent Place Nursery team for over ten years. With extensive experience across all age groups, she now leads our Baby Room, where she plays a key role in supporting our youngest children during their early nursery journey. As Assistant Deputy Manager, Claire is also a vital part of the wider leadership team, contributing to the smooth day-to-day running of the nursery. She specialises in helping babies and their families settle in with confidence and comfort, carefully adapting to individual routines and needs. Claire is especially passionate about sensory play and loves creating a wide variety of messy play experiences that help babies explore the world through their five senses.
