The new Childcare Hub is Kids Play’s home of nature-based play.

With all rooms offering free-flow access to woodland gardens, children are able to fully connect with the great outdoors.

Catering for children aged 6 months to 5 years, the setting provides a wide range of resources to support each stage of development.

Babies are encouraged to develop their motor skills through natural wooden toys, toddlers enjoy water and creative play, while pre-schoolers thrive in forest school activities and storytelling sessions held in the Hobbit house.

To encourage children to care for animals, each room is home to a variety of small animals including fish, hamsters, stick insects and giant land snails.

The newly introduced Animal Care Hub, located in the centre of the gardens, is home to rabbits, guinea pigs and chickens, with pygmy goats joining soon.

As a setting dedicated to nature-based play, children are encouraged to develop an understanding of sustainability and care for the environment. In the roof garden, children plant and tend to vegetables and herbs, which are later used to create their own pizzas cooked in the outdoor pizza oven.

Practitioners to build on children’s natural interests, turning everyday play experiences into meaningful learning opportunities.

Children attending the Hub enjoy exploring the nursery gardens and benefit from weekly music and movement and yoga sessions in the Loughton room.

They also take part in visits to the Animal Care Hub and regular Forest School sessions, where they enjoy building dens, climbing trees and exploring the natural environment.

My daughter really enjoys attending nursery here. She gets excited when she realises where she is. She is 2 years old. She has really improved with her social skills and communication since attending here. The staff are really friendly, helpful and understanding. My daughter always comes home tired
and stuffed from all the activities and food she gets at nursery. It really is a good nursery.

I am so happy with everything about this nursery. The staff are all professional, friendly and put my mind at rest as I leave my son in their care. The ILD Portal is fab and the work and details the ladies put on my son's record is fantastic. Thank you, I will always recommend.

I love the nursery and all the staff working in it, they are loving and caring. Also, I love the way they organise the sessions and look after every child given their aptitudes and preferences. I trust in them and that is something really important for a parent when leaving their child in a nursery.

My son is attending Knowlhill Day Nursery & Education Unit He is very happy there, all the teachers are always very nice and my son gets on with them very well. My son's speech is a bit delayed and English is not his first language, but the teachers are very understanding and supportive. He has developed
a lot in there. They sing a lot, have plenty of activities, do loads of experiments. It's a lovely place.

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.861) out of 10 for Kids Play The Childcare Hub is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.3 out of 5 from 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.569 for Kids Play The Childcare Hub is calculated as follows: ( (168 Excellents x 5) + (15 Goods x 4) + (4 Satisfactorys x 3) + (3 Poors x 2) + (14 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 204 Ratings = 4.569
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.292 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Kids Play The Childcare Hub is based on 15 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.875
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 180 number of registered child places is 36. 15 Positive Reviews ÷ 36 = 0.417
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
