My baby started very young and I was very nervous, but I was over the moon seeing him go into the setting happy and ready to play and interact with his peers and carers. The staffs are very friendly and I love the updates throughout the day. Can't wait to see him blossom and grow at Purple Jay !

Overall Experience

My two-year-old son started at the nursery in October 2024, and our experience has been excellent. The management team are supportive, approachable, and well-organised, ensuring clear communication and a smooth transition. The room staff (Sparrows + Puffins) are warm, patient, and attentive, helping my son settle quickly and build confidence while developing strong bonds with his key workers. I love receiving regular photos and updates, which not only show his activities but also explain how they link to the curriculum and his learning goals. The nursery's beautiful garden, with its thoughtfully arranged play areas, is a highlight for him-especially in the summer. What really sets this nursery apart is its strong community spirit. Celebratory events and fundraising initiatives throughout the year bring staff, parents, and children together in an inviting, inclusive way. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the care, dedication, and nurturing environment the nursery provides.

Overall Experience

My first child has been attending Purple Jay Peckham Rye since 2022 and has absolutely loved his time there. Our second child has since joined the baby room. The nursery has a great atmosphere and a genuinely welcoming feel.

One of its standout features is the outdoor space, which feels like a rarity in London. The children make full use of it, particularly the older ones.

The staff went through a period of transition around 12-18 months ago. However, since then the nursery has been very settled and is now led extremely capably by Isaura. Even during that transition, communication remained strong and standards were consistently high.

Overall, we couldn't be happier with the nursery.

Overall Experience
We are extremely pleased with our experience with Purple Jay Lewisham. Our daughter has attended the nursery for almost 2 years and her development has been fantastic. Each practitioner has taken time and care to get to know her and to base activities and resources on her interests. It is a pleasure to know that she will be nurtured and listened to whilst away from home.
A strength of the nursery has been its role in fostering a love of reading in our daughter. At most pick-ups, I observe a member of staff reading to and with my daughter and they will often pass on to me the names of books that she is enjoying at school. They have also had regular book-themed days and weeks which she absolutely adores.

Welcoming, approachable, and knowledgeable staff and management - we are very happy and have been since her induction.

Overall we have been really pleased with the care and learning environment provided for our daughter. The staff in particular have been fantastic at every turn. We are thrilled to see the variety of food and activities she experiences at the nursery. The only room for improvement would be on the cost - however, we acknowledge nursery childcare is expensive across the board these days. This is more of an institutional problem.

We trusted our daughter in the care of Purple Jay Herne Hill when she was only six months old. Seven months in, we couldn't be more pleased with all and her experience. It's been nice to see the uploads of some of the indoor and outdoor areas, but ultimately it's the team that shapes a child's experience at such a young age, and they have been outstanding! They look after our daughter with lots of care, attention to her personality, and enthusiasm. The nursery manager is extremely experienced and knowledgeable and knows all the children personally, and it has been truly moving to observe the special bond between our daughter and her key person.

My son & daughter both attend Purple Jay Herne Hill Dulwich and our family couldn't be happier with it. The staff are so great with our kids (son 3, daughter 10 months) and help them so much in their development and needs.
Purple Jay is situated in a really calm and extremely low pollution part of Herne Hill/ Dulwich/ Camberwell and it has amazing outdoor space where the older classes are able to play and learn outside most of the day.
The food is always great - albeit vegetarian/ pescatarian only which was a surprise when the menu changed - but both kids always eat well.

The children are so happy and content and the ethos and approach of the staff and teaching is great too.

The nursery environment is safe for the child and all who look after the child while away in the nursery. Great learning space for child development and growth. The staff are very friendly to the child and parents including grandparents. We get updates online and in person while picking up or dropping the child to school. Great reports on child welfare and development. Overall the great nursery manager who ensures all things work together well for the welfare and safeguarding of the child both in and outside of the nursery. Excellent!

Overall Experience

We have sent two children to Purple Jay Lambeth. It's a nurturing place with good outdoor space and friendly, kind staff who seem to enjoy their jobs. Staff turnover, which can be a problem in central London, is not too bad. The activities are varied and well-pitched for each age group, and both my children have developed exceptionally in terms of social skills, behaviour, and concentration while attending the nursery. They are good at sending pictures and communicating over the app, and the food is healthy and toddler-friendly. It also has a real sense of community with regular events like barbeques and sports days.

Reply from Lynn Attoe, Senior Operations Manager at Purple Jay Lambeth

Thank you for taking the time to write such a lovely review, as you say staff retention can be difficult in central London, however, we have been really pleased to have a consistent staff team for some time now. It is really positive to hear that the communication via the App has been good and you can see photos of what your children have been doing while at the nursery.

Review of Purple Jay Peckham Rye from Martha G (Mother of Child) published on 1 October 2024 Submitted via Website
Overall Experience

My son started in Feb 2023 when he was a year old and has been there for a total of 7 months but we are now relocating to a new area so have to change nurseries. We have been so happy with Purple Jay - my son loves it and has flourished in his time there - he runs in! There have been changes in manager since we were there which I was initially concerned about but I saw no inconsistency in the care my son received during those transitions and was impressed with the communication from the nursery throughout. They send regular photos and updates of what he is doing and I love that rather than being dropped at the door, parents are welcome to come right into the rooms/garden etc. to drop off or collect. This meant we got to know the staff and his peers really well and could see for ourselves how content and engaged he was with activities, staff and other kids when he's there. The Sparrows team are amazing and the whole nursery is a lovely warm and cheerful place with the most amazing garden.

Reply from Lynn Attoe, Senior Operations Manager at Purple Jay Peckham Rye

It is really positive to hear that you have been so happy with the nursery and that the change of manager, although concerning for you at the time, has been a good experience with effective communication throughout.

My son loves it there! The staff are really motivated to share/play/teach to the little ones. My son started there at about 2 years. He is 3.5 now and he's really happy! The difference there is really: The Garden! Which is amazing for the kids. The staff, from the teachers to the cook/chef to the assistant. Everyone seems to like it there. The activity, every day they found new ideas to share and interact with the kids.

Making a decision about childcare is not easy but Purple Jay has exceeded all our expectations and we feel lucky to have been with them since 2018. Our first daughter has started school now and she left the nursery having received all the preparation she needed both socially and educationally. We now have another daughter there and she is thriving due to the excellent level of care and attention provided by Purple Jay. The nursery has a wonderful sense of community and is really good at getting the children to work together. The outdoor space is second to none and the decor and displays are updated regularly. Overall our children are happy and the staff at Purple Jay are responsible for that and we will always be grateful for the hard work that goes into making children happy and rounded. We would wholeheartedly recommend Purple Jay to prospective parents.

Overall Experience

Our son has attended Purple Jay for the last 15-months (since he was age 13-months), and it’s been such a wonderful experience, despite all the challenges of Covid. The nursery has a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff are all lovely and so caring. All the children have access to the big garden at different points throughout the day, and they have a wide range of quality and stimulating resources to play with indoors and outside, including a construction area, mud garden and water play area. I’m always amazed at the different activities they do as well. The team have been amazing and adapted so well during Covid - the fact the nursery has never had to close and our son hasn’t caught anything other than the usual coughs and colds says it all. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Purple Jay Peckham Rye, as I really believe it’s the best nursery in the area. We can’t thank the team there enough for helping our son grow into a happy, confident and curious little boy!

Both my daughter and I have had a very positive experience at Purple Jay. The staff are very friendly and have a genuine interest in the children and their well being. Communication is very good, with staff providing answers to my questions soon after I contact them. Although my daughter has a key staff member allocated to her, all of the staff know each child well, which works well as my daughter as she is very comfortable approaching all staff members. I would recommend this nursery.
