My two-year-old son started at the nursery in October 2024, and our experience has been excellent. The management team are supportive, approachable, and well-organised, ensuring clear communication and a smooth transition. The room staff (Sparrows + Puffins) are warm, patient, and attentive, helping
my son settle quickly and build confidence while developing strong bonds with his key workers. I love receiving regular photos and updates, which not only show his activities but also explain how they link to the curriculum and his learning goals. The nursery's beautiful garden, with its thoughtfully arranged play areas, is a highlight for him-especially in the summer. What really sets this nursery apart is its strong community spirit. Celebratory events and fundraising initiatives throughout the year bring staff, parents, and children together in an inviting, inclusive way. Overall, I couldn't be happier with the care, dedication, and nurturing environment the nursery provides.

My first child has been attending Purple Jay Peckham Rye since 2022 and has absolutely loved his time there. Our second child has since joined the baby room. The nursery has a great atmosphere and a genuinely welcoming feel.

One of its standout features is the outdoor space, which feels like a rarity

in London. The children make full use of it, particularly the older ones.

The staff went through a period of transition around 12-18 months ago. However, since then the nursery has been very settled and is now led extremely capably by Isaura. Even during that transition, communication remained strong and standards were consistently high.

Overall, we couldn't be happier with the nursery.

My son started in Feb 2023 when he was a year old and has been there for a total of 7 months but we are now relocating to a new area so have to change nurseries. We have been so happy with Purple Jay - my son loves it and has flourished in his time there - he runs in! There have been changes in manager
since we were there which I was initially concerned about but I saw no inconsistency in the care my son received during those transitions and was impressed with the communication from the nursery throughout. They send regular photos and updates of what he is doing and I love that rather than being dropped at the door, parents are welcome to come right into the rooms/garden etc. to drop off or collect. This meant we got to know the staff and his peers really well and could see for ourselves how content and engaged he was with activities, staff and other kids when he's there. The Sparrows team are amazing and the whole nursery is a lovely warm and cheerful place with the most amazing garden.

My son loves it there! The staff are really motivated to share/play/teach to the little ones. My son started there at about 2 years. He is 3.5 now and he's really happy! The difference there is really: The Garden! Which is amazing for the kids. The staff, from the teachers to the cook/chef to the assistant.
Everyone seems to like it there. The activity, every day they found new ideas to share and interact with the kids.

Our son has attended Purple Jay for the last 15-months (since he was age 13-months), and it’s been such a wonderful experience, despite all the challenges of Covid. The nursery has a really friendly and welcoming atmosphere, and the staff are all lovely and so caring. All the children have access to
the big garden at different points throughout the day, and they have a wide range of quality and stimulating resources to play with indoors and outside, including a construction area, mud garden and water play area. I’m always amazed at the different activities they do as well. The team have been amazing and adapted so well during Covid - the fact the nursery has never had to close and our son hasn’t caught anything other than the usual coughs and colds says it all. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Purple Jay Peckham Rye, as I really believe it’s the best nursery in the area. We can’t thank the team there enough for helping our son grow into a happy, confident and curious little boy!

Both my daughter and I have had a very positive experience at Purple Jay. The staff are very friendly and have a genuine interest in the children and their well being. Communication is very good, with staff providing answers to my questions soon after I contact them. Although my daughter has a key
staff member allocated to her, all of the staff know each child well, which works well as my daughter as she is very comfortable approaching all staff members. I would recommend this nursery.

Our children have been at Purple Jay Peckham Rye for the last 18 months. It is a nurturing environment with caring staff and feels very much like a home. All the staff we have met - from the nursery cook to the manager have been welcoming and seem to know each child very well. The children do a broad
range of activities and they learn important life skills (eg. sharing and being friends). A team member who works in the Puffins room, in particular, is incredible - so enthusiastic, warm and caring. It is hard to comment on some aspects of what the nursery is like inside (eg. facilities) as we have never been inside most of the nursery due to understandable covid restrictions.

Purple Jay Peckham Rye is a good nursery. Unfortunately given lockdown, it has been impossible to see what goes on inside but both our children really enjoy their time there and the staff are really nice and helpful. It would be great to see a few more activity updates through the app, but the variety
of activities and teaching seem to be really good. Overall, very much recommended.

Over the past 6 years we have sent both our children to this nursery and have only the very best things to say about the staff and they way they look after the children. They have a genuine interest in the kids as individuals and have always been so warm, welcoming and receptive to whatever feedback
we may have had. A great experience!

We have sent both our children to Purple Jay Peckham Rye and they have been very happy and have made great friends. It is a very friendly, well-equipped nursery with lovely staff and a great garden and facilities. There are many efforts to include parents in their children’s daily activities and also
to keep them up to date with their continued development. We would definitely recommend Purple Jay.

My son has loved his time at Purple Jay Peckham, and we as parents have also been delighted with the staff and the facilities. Each member of staff has cared deeply about their role and it seems that Purple Jay retain a high number of staff. We can only assume this is because of the quality of the nursery
and the environment created there. We could not have wishes for more from the manager and the team. We will miss them all.

Current Review Score: 8.9 (8.880)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.9 (8.880) out of 10 for Purple Jay Peckham Rye is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 4 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.0 out of 5 from 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.917 for Purple Jay Peckham Rye is calculated as follows: ( (44 Excellents x 5) + (4 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.917
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.963 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Purple Jay Peckham Rye is based on 4 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.375
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 34 number of registered child places is 6.8. 4 Positive Reviews ÷ 6.8 = 0.588
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
