We couldn't be happier with this nursery. The staff are caring, attentive, and genuinely passionate about supporting the children's development. Our son has grown so much in confidence and loves going every day. The environment is warm, safe, and welcoming - we truly feel lucky to have found such a
wonderful place.

Our little 3 year old loves his time at pre-school, can't wait to run in and is always happy when he comes out.
The staff are really great, communicative, supportive and really do get to know the kids well.
We're so happy we chose Stepping Stones!

I like the nursery very much as it has many activities and it's great for the children to learn motor skills, life skills and starting their learning for primary School. The nursery does focus week on each child so no one ever feels left out which I think it is important for a child's development.

Barley Wood Nursery

Overall Experience 5.0 out of 5
My child started Barley Wood nursery shortly after his 2nd birthday and had a really rocky start. He was welcomed beautifully by the staff but he was a nervous toddler who struggled with his separation anxiety and took a long time to settle.
The nursery was fantastic with him! Introduced nurture packs
where he had strategies such as timelines for the day, boxes for his special comfort toys from home and regular updates from the staff on the days where he really struggled to even enter nursery! This was all reassuring information to get as a parent. We had regular meetings to discuss his nurture plan and now we are thriving!
He now looks forward to nursery. He has made friends who he talks about at home and really enjoys spending so much time outside exploring. We are no longer on a nurture plan and this is all due to the hard work and dedication from all the staff at Barley wood. Would highly recommend to any parent considering a nursery setting for their child.
Reply from Natalie Purkiss, Head of Childcare at Barley Wood NurseryThank you very much for sharing your experience of Barley Wood Nursery. It is wonderful to see how well your little one has settled and this is such a great example of the way our team support each child as an individual. I am delighted that you felt so supported in those early days and you worked together with the team to reassure your child that he could feel safe and enjoy being in nursery. Thank you again for your high recommendation and we are excited to see him continue to develop his love of learning. Best wishes Natalie

Both my children attend the old potting shed nursery. Both have been met with excellent care from the team. It's a lovely feeling knowing my kids love their time at nursery going into and out of nursery with big smiles on their faces.
The old potting shed are always looking at improving their facilities.
The recent introduction of the apple store as a prime example. It's lovely to see a constant improvement drive, making the best facilities for our children.
The updates are always positive, welcoming and detailed. Knowing what our little ones get up to helps reassure me they're having a great time.
Reply from Lisa Marchent, Manager at The Old Potting Shed NurseryThank you for your very kind review. We are delighted that you and your children have had a positive experience and that they enjoy their time at nursery. We as a company strive to meet the needs of the community where ever we possibly can and expand our services to reflect this. I will pass this feedback onto the teams as they all work so hard to support the children and families and appreciate the feedback given by parents and carers.

Our child likes going to Stepping Stones. They have made some great friends and comes home able to tell us what they have done for the day. They go to the early and late wrap around which works really well for us and our child. Recently they have been doing lots of seasonal things and performed Christmas
songs for parents, which our child loved doing. My wife was able to go but I wasn't, however videos were put up on the app for us to see which way really nice.
Reply from Natalie Purkiss, Head of Childcare at Stepping Stones Pre-SchoolThank you for your review of Stepping Stones. I am delighted that your child enjoys their time at the setting and they are keen to tell you all about the exciting things they have been up to during the day. Bridie and the team have loved showcasing the children's talents with their singing and performing over Christmas, so it is lovely that you were able to to see this and enjoy it on video. My little boy has been going here since last September and we love it. The staff are amazing, all of them are attentive, kind and patient. Information sharing is amazing, we get so much information about his day, both at the gate and through the communication app. Activities seem varied, including lots
of outdoor play, scavenger hunting, sports and exploring. Indoor play often includes structured learning like numbers, letters, and healthy foods. I like the support with teeth cleaning at the moment. But also lots of fun, with dancing and music. We love it, can stress enough how kind and supportive the staff are.

Our little one has flourished at BarleyWood in such a short time. Even at just one year old, she has been encouraged to explore, play, and engage with the world around her in such a safe and nurturing environment. Every day she comes home happy and full of excitement from the adventures she's had outdoors
and the new things she's experienced.
The staff are incredibly caring and attentive, always supporting her development while allowing her to discover at her own pace. It's amazing to watch her curiosity, confidence, and joy grow so quickly. We feel so grateful for the loving and inspiring environment Barley Wood provides for our little one.

My son is always excited to go to pre-school! And they have such lovely staff, and great activities for the children to do! The only gripe I have is the fact we can't choose to have packed lunch, would be nice for the option as sometimes I can see where my child has hardly eaten anything as he's not
keen on it, where if he'd had lunch that day he would have eaten more!
Reply from Natalie Purkiss, Head of Childcare at Stepping Stones Pre-SchoolThank you very much for taking time to leave a 5* review of Stepping Stones.
We appreciate your feedback on the meals, and understand that as a newly implemented benefit to the children at Stepping Stones, it may take a little time for some children to become used to having a hot meal at the setting.
We are very proud of our catering offer and know the positive impact having wholesome, freshly cooked, nutritionally balanced meals that are prepared fresh each day has on the children's physical and emotional wellbeing. Mealtimes for us are more than just food, they are an opportunity for children to develop independence skills and life long healthy habits. We also see the social benefits to children coming together to eat cooked food that expose them to a rich variety of flavours and textures. Please do speak with Bridie should you have any questions or feel that there is anything that we can support you with further. Best wishes Natalie

My daughter has struggled to settle having transitioned from another nursery and the staff have been great at trying to help her settle and make friends. Also have a friendly greeting at any handover.
Reply from Lisa Marchent, Manager at The Old Potting Shed NurseryThank you for your review, we really appreciate the feedback. The team work hard to make all our children feel welcomed and settled at the setting using a number of strategies to support those who find that initial separation a little tricky. We are pleased to hear that you get a positive handover at both ends of the day as this is important to support you as a family to know what is happening for your little one whilst in nursery.

We're really happy with the care our two toddlers receive at this nursery. The staff are kind, patient, and clearly care about the children. Both of our toddlers have settled in so well and are always happy to go in, which says a lot. There's a great range of activities each day, and we've noticed real
progress in their confidence, communication, and social skills. The nursery feels safe, welcoming, and well organised, and the staff keep us well informed. We feel very comfortable leaving our children here and would happily recommend the nursery to other parents.

Barley wood is such a special place for children and the staff go above and beyond. All three of my children have attended and we wouldn't choose anywhere else.
The outside space available is outstanding; from visiting the fishpond, to the cows or exploring the woods there is so much to do!
The
care provided is exceptional, nothing is too much trouble and children's have a wonderful time when there with lots of activities and experiences.
Additionally they were able to support daughter number two with her 1:1 medical needs to a high standard, with excellent communication and dedication to all the training required.
