Puddleducks Children’s Day Nursery Malton is situated just outside the lovely market town of Malton, perfectly located beside the A64 on a main commuter route out of Malton. The purpose-built nursery boasts spacious rooms and large, enclosed outdoors areas for children to play and learn. Having been designed and built with children and their needs in mind, the nursery is a well-designed, homely environment. Its has its own private car park to the front of the building, which is easily accessed. Places are offered from birth, up to children leaving for school and the setting contains 3 rooms, babies, toddlers and preschool.

When visiting the nursery, you will notice there are very few plastic manufactured toys. The team are strong believers that the more a toy does, the less a child learns from it. So, typical plastic toys with their flashing lights and noisy buttons do not feature in the nursery. Instead, they value open-ended, recycled, real items. As a result, children show deep levels of engagement and curiosity in their play – both are essential for effective learning and development.

The team of staff are dedicated to excellence and a key person approach always ensures that they are enabling and supporting close attachments between individual children and individual nursery staff. The Key Person approach recognises that an infant is distressed by differences and comforted by the familiar. Before your child begins their journey at Puddleducks, you will be informed which member of the team will be their key person.
Your child’s key person will meet any physical needs, such as changing nappies, feeding or cuddling at nap time, and in this way, they begin to build a secure attachment with your child. Touch is a powerful non-verbal message, reassuring children that they are liked and welcome, and cuddling is promoted. Your child’s key person will be your main point of contact.

Our eldest has been with the nursery since they opened and has flourished in the environment they provide. She is now fully prepared for the school environment and is really looking forward to it through the positive reinforcement taught here at Puddleducks. All the staff are very friendly and caring
and really connected with each child, from the office staff to the staff in each room everyone seems to be on the same page. The food at the nursery is also really fantastic and our eldest was always interested to know what she was having that day on our way in and was always positive about what she was having. The feedback in the form of weekly newsletters for each room is also really good and shows the activities they have been doing including pictures which is really nice to see, and there is also detailed daily feedback at pickup time. We have now put our youngest in Puddleducks due to the fantastic experience we have had.
Highly Recommended. Thanks Puddleducks Malton.

Our daughter has loved attending Puddleducks over the past year. Her confidence and speech have come on leaps and bounds.
The staff are all lovely, chatty, helpful, and polite.
Overall she had a great year and I wouldn’t have sent her to any other nursery.

My little one has spent the last year at Puddleducks (in the toddler room) and has absolutely loved his time there. His wonderful key person helped him to quickly settle last September and has continued to help him grow and flourish in this setting. He refers to his key person as his friend which demonstrates
this lovely relationship they have. He has always been delighted to attend this setting and talks about the wonderful experiences he has each day! His learning journal is detailed and his next steps follow on from the experiences he's had and the interests that he's shown at home. The feedback we get at the end of the day in addition to the weekly blog also helps me to talk about and reflect on this learning with him. The team at Puddleducks have also continued to foster a love of reading in my little one. Must mention the menu too as it has certainly been a favourite! A really beautifully presented nursery with a lovely family feel! Puddleducks really is a home from home!

Both of our children have been attending Puddleducks since it opened last year. We have watched them learn, develop and grow as little people with the guidance of the nursery team. The whole experience has been exceptional. There is a clear passion for what they do amongst the team, this is obvious
when you see how happy the children are after a day spent there. Our kids absolutely love it here!
Thank you so much for everything you’ve done for our kids, you truly are a wonderful team.

We think Puddleducks is a great nursery - the welcome feel you get from the staff when you enter (they all welcome the children by name, even those who do not look after that child), is just the start of it. The building is decorated in a lovely manner, the food menu is varied and (sounds) tasty!
We
think all the staff there are fantastic - they take real pride in ensuring our toddler continues to develop, and they encourage this with new skills to learn, always mixing up the sensory experiences. Our key worker is great, but I am sure this extends to all the staff.
I really couldn’t recommend it any more.

The nursery is a bright and cheerful place, filled with stimulating toys, colourful decorations and cosy corners for the children to explore and play. It's evident that the team here goes above and beyond to create a nurturing and safe environment for all the kids.
Communication with the nursery has
been seamless. We receive regular updates and photos, which helps us feel connected and involved in our little one's activities. The transparency and openness of the nursery team have given us great peace of mind.
Our child's progress and development have been excellent since joining the nursery. From learning new skills to socialising with other children, it's incredible to witness the growth and confidence that our little one has gained in such a short time.
The nursery also pays great attention to healthy eating habits, providing nutritious meals that cater to all dietary requirements. As parents, it's great knowing our child is well-fed and cared for throughout the day.

A beautiful nursery with amazing staff. My little boy is coming to the end of his time at Puddleducks (he starts school in September). He has had the best time at preschool here. The building, resources, and decor are fantastic, as too are the outdoor areas. Purpose-built for the youngsters in mind
with lovely finishing touches means that from the second you and your child arrive, you both feel relaxed and comfortable with the surroundings. All the staff that work here are incredible, they really do get to know your little one to another level. Providing engaging and exciting activities that they know your child will love. Baking, arts and crafts, outside play as well as circle time happen daily. They go above and beyond to provide a whole range of experiences - reindeer at Christmas, ice cream vans, as well as trips out. My little boy has had a great time here, made some lovely friends, and we will be sad when his time here comes to an end. Thank you, Puddleducks.

We moved to Puddleducks in 2022, moving from another local nursery. We were understandably anxious as to how our little one would settle, but we should not have had any concerns.
The nursery operates from a brand-new modern facility that includes air conditioning. It is located close to the major
A64 trunk road and also has more flexible opening times than other local nurseries, which supports us with work commitment.
The nursery is amazing. It is spotlessly clean, and the staff are experienced professionals who care deeply for the children in their care. They take time at handover to tell you all about the day, and the flapjack and tea for the parents in the morning is a nice touch. We have regular parent's evenings and focus child weeks that allow us to understand how to support our 2-year-old with her learning journey. They also use radios at pick-up time, so when our car pulls in, our child starts getting ready for the handover discussion. The little things make a big difference.

I really cannot rate Puddleducks and everyone in the team highly enough. My son has recently left as he starts school in September, and I really feel he has had the best possible start to his education. Staff are highly professional and knowledgeable, care so much for the children in the nursery (each
one knowing him by name), and really are second to none. When we initially looked around, we were bowled over by how homely the setting is and so welcoming. I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone looking for top-quality care for their child. Thank you, Puddleducks!

  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 5.0 out of 5 from 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.963 for Puddleducks Children's Day Nursery Malton is calculated as follows: ( (475 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 492 Ratings = 4.963
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 5 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Puddleducks Children's Day Nursery Malton is based on 41 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 4
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 72 number of registered child places is 14.4, which has been reached with 41 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
