Located in the heart of Pinhoe, this cosy bungalow embraces the same outstanding, outdoor, and eco-conscious ethos as all Muddy Boots nurseries, providing a calm and nurturing environment where children can thrive.

The setting focuses on child-led learning, with resources placed at a low level, encouraging children to explore and self-select. A simple block of wood can transform into a car, a phone, or part of a tower, fostering creativity and imaginative play.

Staff are always on hand to scaffold and support, ensuring a positive and encouraging atmosphere without interference or judgement. The large garden offers as many opportunities for learning and exploration as the indoor spaces, strongly emphasising fresh air, exercise, and muddy adventures. Children spend as much time outdoors as possible, benefiting from a no-fuss, child-focused approach that allows them to develop at their own pace, growing into confident, curious individuals prepared for their educational journey and beyond.

My son started nursery at Muddy Boots in February 2025 and he loves it. The staff have been lovely, really helping him settle in, and the wide range of activities they do keep him engaged and happy the whole time he is there. He is excited and happy every morning he has to go to nursery and I am so
happy and calm knowing he is being taken care of.

We couldn't be happier with Hudson's nursery. From the very beginning, he settled in so quickly, which honestly says everything about the environment the team have created. He absolutely loves being there, and that reassurance as parents is priceless.
A huge thank you to all of the staff who made him
feel comfortable, while also making us feel so welcomed and at ease during what can be a really emotional transition. Leaving your baby is no small thing-but the care, warmth, and genuine kindness from the team made it so much easier.
The staff are incredibly professional, attentive, and clearly passionate about what they do. It's so lovely to see how much they care about each child as an individual, supporting their development while also making sure they feel safe, happy, and confident.
We're so grateful to have found such a nurturing and supportive environment. Highly recommend to any parents looking for a place where their little ones will truly thrive.

We've been using Muddy Boots at the Bungalow for 5 years now, and both children have loved being there. Communication via the app, with frequent pictures is great. We love the range of toys and activities, including Spanish lessons, and the flexibility to last minute book in extra sessions with little
hassle has been very useful on the odd occasion.
There had been a lot of staff turnover for a period about a year ago which was unsettling for a time, but the current staff that have been there for a decent period now are absolutely lovely! All very helpful, kind, attentive, and really care for the kids, so the atmosphere is much improved again these days. Would recommend this nursery.

We are extremely happy that your children have loved coming to our nursery, and we are very grateful that you have continued to use us as your childcare provider for 5 years.
We are pleased that you are happy with how we communicate with our families, have a variety of resources and how we can be flexible with on the go families. Supporting our parents and their children and adapting to their needs is really important to us, so thank you for sharing your positive experiences.
We understand it can be unsettling when there is a change of staff, Especially if a child has built a special bond with them. Whilst there are some changes happening, we will still continue to provide high standards of care for all the children, ensuring they are always happy, safe and are continuing to thrive.

Once again, thank you for using Muddy Boots at the Bungalow as your childcare provider.

Our daughter Jemima has thrived at Muddy Boots. She has made huge progress in many areas but particularly her eating, an area which she has struggled with for a long time. We have felt very supported through the process of addressing her fussy eating. The staff are all so warm and look after Jemima
as if she was their own. We will miss Muddy Boots when Jemima starts school!

A personal approach is taken to the children, my son has excelled in such a small space of time. He is always happy to go in and finds comfort from the staff. We love our daily updates and photos.
The nursery itself is well-equipped, has a big garden area covered and uncovered and very clean.

Nice nursery, especially the welcoming indoor setup, the cleanliness, the engaging activities, and the emphasis on spending time outdoors. The staff members are always kind and caring, which we truly appreciate. However, we have noticed a high staff turnover, which can sometimes be a bit unsettling
for the children as they build relationships with their caregivers. We understand that staffing challenges exist, but we hope there is a way to bring more stability to the team.
It would be nice to have more lightning as it's hard to see when going to the building especially at pick up in winter time. The car park gets a bit flooded when it rains.

We understand your concerns about staff turnover. While some changes are unavoidable, we're always working to keep our team as consistent as possible to support the children's relationships and routines. We also really appreciate your comments about the lighting and the car park. We know how tricky winter pick-ups can be and will look into improving this.

I am very pleased with the overall experience my son has at nursery. Attending nursery has enhanced his social skills and he often tells me about the friends he plays with. I love seeing photos of the activities he's taken part in on the app, and there's always a range of different activities available
which enhances so many different skills whether it's fine motor, pencil control or maths for example. He never has a bad day at nursery, and they always spend some time outside which my son loves - he loves playing in mud or running around with a big stick! The additional Spanish classes provided I think are an excellent way of introducing different languages and cultures to children at a young age, and hopefully sets him up for a life of curiosity and an eagerness to explore the world. Recently at Christmas, he was given a book as a Christmas present which was extremely thoughtful, especially as he loves reading and bedtime stories.
Reply from Jess Robertson, Social Media Coordinator at Muddy Boots at the BungalowThank you so much for your wonderful review! It's fantastic to hear how much your son enjoys his time at nursery, from making friends to exploring the outdoors. We love that he embraces messy play and outdoor adventures-running around with a big stick sounds like so much fun! It's also great to know you appreciate the Spanish classes and the introduction to different languages and cultures, we appreciate all feedback so it's great to hear your thoughts on any extra-curricular we provide. My child has attended this nursery since April 2024. The general facilities and cleanliness is very good and my child has always come home happy and is learning at a good rate. However there are areas where this nursery needs to improve, mainly with staff, the nursery staff are not very talkative to
parents when picking and dropping off your children. The staff no longer allow you in the room to drop and collect your child so you are in a small area where everyone can hear your conversations and there is a general lack of privacy and sensitive conversations are not private at all. Staff also forgot to give medication back at end of the day. The staff of a nursery are very important to the children and parents who build up relationships so it is a shame. Overall this nursery is excellent for learning has good facilities and very clean. I would recommend this nursery as I feel although there is room for improvement the general qualities are good and the faults can be easy improved.
Reply from Jess Robertson, Social Media Coordinator at Muddy Boots at the BungalowThank you for your honest feedback. We're so pleased to hear that your child is happy, learning well and that you value our facilities and cleanliness. That means a lot to us! We also really appreciate you highlighting areas where we can improve. Building strong relationships with parents is very important to us, so we will take your comments on board. We understand how essential these aspects are and will look at ways to improve the experience at drop-off and pick-up. Current Review Score: 9.7 (9.651)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.7 (9.651) out of 10 for Muddy Boots at the Bungalow is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 18 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.726 for Muddy Boots at the Bungalow is calculated as follows: ( (167 Excellents x 5) + (38 Goods x 4) + (9 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 215 Ratings = 4.726
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.925 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Muddy Boots at the Bungalow is based on 17 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.925
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 30 number of registered child places is 6, which has been reached with 17 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Nursery Manager Joined: 2022

Hi, I’m Danni. My early years journey began in 2002 when I started my own childminding business, which I ran for over 10 years. In 2022, I joined Muddy Boots Nursery and have since progressed into the role of Nursery Manager.

I believe early years practitioners should be co-adventurers alongside the children, supporting them as they explore and grow. Creating a warm, home-from-home environment is very important to me, where children feel safe, secure and confident to thrive.

The most rewarding part of my role is seeing children grow, reach their milestones and develop into their own unique personalities. I also value building strong partnerships with families and supporting staff to grow in confidence and develop their careers in early years.

I would love to welcome you to our nursery and show you around, so you can experience our warm and nurturing environment for yourself.
