Situated in a unique countryside setting in the Coombe Lodge Estate in Blagdon, The Old Potting Shed Nursery provides day care for children from 3 months to 5 years.

For their youngest children, the nursery offers 'The Stables', a cosy and comfortable area where babies are cared for by a professional and friendly team and engage in a range of sensory activities, both indoor and outdoor.

For toddlers and younger children, they have created a beautiful new space; the 'Apple Store' building, which has direct access to a spacious secure garden, sensory/ sleep room and a large open plan play room. This building is new for September 2025.

The Old Potting Shed offers a large enclosed walled garden as well as a spacious inside area for their Pre School aged children. Following the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum, all children are offered a variety of activities, providing endless opportunities to play, explore and learn in a way that suits them.

The nursery place huge importance on learning in the outdoor environment and frequently explore the extensive and very beautiful grounds of the Coombe Lodge Estate as well as making the most of the amazing and purposefully created gardens.

As children reach the end of their time with the nursery, the team will help to prepare them for the next steps, and are always available for help and advice as you progress your child into school.

I have 2 children at this nursery. 1 year and 3 years, they transitioned in June from a nursery in Bristol.
I love the outdoor space my children have to run around.
Every morning at drop off I think how beautiful it is.
Staff are really friendly and experienced.
I loved the sports day as that is
not something they've been able to do in a nursery setting before.
My son is also recently learning phonics and he comes home every evening full of knowledge and is excited to tell me all the new things he he learnt.
They are both super happy.

My son's time here has been nothing short of exceptional. From his very first day, he has received reception care and development in a fantastically caring and nurturing environment. His social and intellectual development during his time here has been notable. His interests and needs are always nurtured
and met, the fact he is outside getting fresh air every day is brilliant and the quality of the goods he eats here helps greatly with meal times at home. We have no worries about his safety and have always found the staff both caring and approachable.

A wonderful nursery. Both my children attend and they both have a great time every day. My oldest plays on the bikes, is learning his letters, lots of songs, etc. The staff give regular updates and daily photos and commentary on an app. My youngest started this week and has settled in nicely. My little one has been going to The Old Potting Shed since October 2022, I could not be more impressed with the service, care and attention we have received. I have been able to follow progress on the app with dolly updates. Stuff update you on collection and always ask about your little one and you
on drop off. Staff are kind, caring and their attention to detail is great. They work with your child as an individual and take the time to get to know them and work with them at their speed. The care about your child and you as parents, and the children's welfare is at the forefront of what they do. My little one loves to go to nursery which is merit in itself as she doesn't normally go with anyone. My little one is leaving the nursery next year due to going to school but if there was an option to stay on with the nursery, we would be first in the queue. I can highly recommend The Old Potting Shed and all the amazing staff.

Our daughter is 13 months old and has been attending The Old Potting Shed for almost 4 months. She’s always been happy and smiley at drop off and it’s clear she has a brilliant time. The staff are great at communicating to parents and clearly have the children’s needs as a priority.
The activities
I see through the app show how engaged the children are and the variety of skills they learn every day is fantastic; my daughter has developed so much since starting. The app also helps me relax during the day, seeing how well she’s eating and sleeping. I highly recommend The Old Potting Shed, thank you!

The Potting Shed is a great nursery! The setting is fantastic (some really good, lasting memories for kids) and the staff are enthusiastic, professional and kind.

The Old Potting Shed is a wonderful nursery. They care about the kids and provide plenty of varied activities. My child feels cared for and enjoys attending which is the most important factor for me. My son joined nursery back in July 2022 when he was 19 months old. He absolutely loves his time at nursery, he has a great bond with the staff and thoroughly enjoys the activities especially the outside ones and the additional sports activities. We are very impressed with his speech since starting,
his ability to do things for himself and all of the new foods he has tried and now loves. He cannot wait to get up and go to nursery in the mornings which makes us relax knowing he is having such a good time. We get daily updates, monthly updates and the communication is incredible. He always comes home happy, smiling and excited to tell us about his day. We are so happy that we have chosen this nursery and couldn’t recommend it enough.

Our daughter has been going to The Old Potting Shed Nursery for over 4 months now and has advanced greatly as a small toddler. The staff are incredibly friendly and welcoming, and the environment is warm and inviting. The facilities are engaging, with a variety of play areas, toys, and activities to
keep children engaged, all set up by the wonderful staff every day depending on the occasion. Most importantly, the children seemed to be having a great time playing and interacting with each other. Many occasions are celebrated with activities for Chinese New Year, Valentine’s Day and even pancake day to name a few recent. All this is shared with us daily via the Famly App that keeps us updated on everything they do and allows us easy interaction with the staff if we need it. I would absolutely recommend this nursery to any parent looking for a safe, fun, and stimulating environment for their children.

My sixteen-month-old daughter joined the baby room at eight months old and I am so happy we chose The Potting Shed as her nursery.
The staff were excellent at working with us to help her settle and they are very good at communication. Every member of staff feels fully invested in making the experience
amazing for the babies and I’m confident that I can speak to any one of them at pick up about my daughter's progress and they are fully informed about how she is getting on.
Her days are packed with fun and varying activities and they spend a large amount of time outside playing in the gardens and the grounds of the estate.
I see my daughter’s development coming on in leaps and bounds and every fortnight we’re asked for updates on her progress at home, her interests, and any events coming up that they can incorporate at nursery.
I’m extremely happy with our experience of The Potting Shed and would happily recommend to others.

Our daughter started at The Old Potting Shed Nursery nearly a year ago and she has thrived. She loves going into nursery each day and is constantly entertained and well looked after. The staff are all so lovely, caring and kind. The new sports programme is also a huge positive and saves having to take
her to extra sports activities on a weekend. It’s also lovely that they are outside so much, going for walks around the grounds and seeing the animals nearby. She loves it here and we love it!

Our daughter started at The Old Potting Shed last February and I would definitely recommend the nursery to new parents. The setting is lovely and the staff have always been brilliant with our daughter! It always seems a lovely atmosphere at drop off and pick up and we get great updates through the app
so can see everything they are up to, as well as nap times/meal times etc. I feel like our daughter has made good progress since being at The Old Potting Shed and she seems to love it!

I just wanted to say a big thank you to all the staff in the different rooms and for all the ideas, planning and fun organised for the children. It is a fantastic setting, they get so much stimulation and learning opportunities, and we're very grateful that we have our girls attending such a nurturing
place. The daily updates are wonderful to read and we feel very lucky to see what the children do.
I am really pleased with how well and quickly our youngest has settled in too. She has obviously felt well looked after.
Please pass on my gratitude to all the staff and that we think they are all amazing and doing wonderful things.

Lisa has been the Manager at The Old Potting Shed Nursery since YMCA Dulverton Group acquired the setting nearly 4 years ago.


Her passion and enthusiasm for the work we do is second to none. Lisa is an inspiring leader with a wealth of knowledge and experience in the early years. She has grown the setting and the team over the last few years whilst ensuring the quality of care and education for the children we look after remains the top priority.


Lisa is passionate about the curiosity approach and how open-ended resources can positively impact children's learning, problem-solving solving and critical thinking skills.
