We have been parents at butterfly patch, south Norwood for over five years. This is a friendly, welcoming and warm setting. It feels as if all staff have an involvement in the development of the children. The children also learn about many different aspects of life.
My son has been going to this nursery since he was 11 months old and we are delighted with the choice. He makes incredible learning steps every day and he has developed strong social bonds with his classmates. The creativity of the staff to create age appropriate development opportunities and respond to my child's interests and progress always impresses us. We appreciate the care that the staff show him and he has a great time.
Our daughter has been attending this nursery for a year now and has really developed her confidence in social interaction. She enjoys playing and reading with the other little ones and always speaks about her friends at home. The nursery cater to our daughter by offering her alternative foods if she does not eat what is on the menu and she is an extreme picky eater which we are grateful for.
The app is absolutely brilliant for sharing information with parents...whether it's eating, sleeping, toilet trips, or the children's learning journey! It's a great way to communicate with the nursery throughout the day. The children spend plenty of time outside and have lots of healthy snacks. The staff really love and care about the children.
Our son has attended butterfly patch in South Norwood since September 2023 we have found the staff to be attentive, caring and enthusiastic about his development throughout his time. The manager is personable and always available to discuss developmental progress whether it be socially or educationally related. We are extremely happy with our choice of nursery and couldn't recommend it enough
My son has been going to The Butterfly Patch South Norwood for close to a year. He has come on leaps and bounds in their excellent care, he always enters joyfully and we feel incredibly grateful for the care he receives from the staff. The manager is excellent, she is hands-on and always available if you need her. She seems to take training and development of staff seriously, which we appreciate as an investment in people is reflected in the care and support given to the children. The staff in Glittering Glow Bugs (baby room) are particularly brilliant in our experience.
We moved our 2-year-old to Butterfly Patch in August 2024 after she was at a nursery in South Norwood for 12 months. There is an unparalleled difference in the way this nursery is run. From the top (owner) down there is a genuine level of authenticity and relentless spirit to make each day creative and enjoyable for the children. At pick up you can walk into the nursery, you get a short handover with what she's been doing that day which you also get from the app. The manager runs a tight ship but it's easy to sense that her leadership is driven by bringing the best out of her team but most of all the children. Happy days.
The nursery is well organised and the manager very experienced and supportive. The teachers are super creative and come up with brilliant activities for the children, but always leaving time to be led by what the children are interested in. They take behaviour of the kids seriously and it feels like a team effort between staff and parents to deal with anything.
They organise lots of fun trips and at Christmas set up a partnership with the old people's home, encouraging the children to think about gift-giving and supporting their local community.
Our daughter is really happy there and when we pick her up she is exhausted while the staff still seem full of energy and enthusiasm. Totally recommend!
We've been so impressed with The Butterfly Patch ever since our son started in June 2023. The staff are all excellent, and it feels like they all know our son individually and what he likes and dislikes. The communication is great, we love the updates at the end of the day and the app keeps us up to date on what he's up to during the day. My son is currently transitioning rooms as he is 2 years old, which is handled sensitively by the staff and they are careful to move at his pace and keep things flexible which is hugely appreciated. The activities they do with the children are so creative and educational and it feels like he is progressing and developing well. It is a huge weight off my mind to know he is well cared for and happy at nursery and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this nursery.
The Butterfly Patch South Norwood is a fantastic nursery. The staff are engaged, thoughtful and caring. Parents are kept up to date via the app and at handover, where staff are available to answer questions. Communication in general is clear and frequent; management is pragmatic and flexible which is valuable for working parents. The learning provision has been excellent in encouraging my children to develop their skills. Both my children look forward to attending, have made friends with their peers, and are better off for it.
We have had a lovely experience at Butterfly Patch. The app updates, consistency of staff and personal touch surpass the other three childcare providers we have had. Our child is very happy there and has made lots of solid friends.
A nursery with kind, considerate and supportive staff in SE25, with great facilities and a huge variety of imaginative activities. Watching my son grow and develop and interact with the wonderful staff has been amazing to witness his progression week on week - and all attributable to the effort and care of the staff who have such an involved role in his life when he’s there. 10/10, would recommend to anyone considering a nursery in the local area.
Management are helpful and professional, but also personable.
I cannot recommend them enough. Aside from the emotional development of our child, I have seen amazing growth in her analytical, linguistic and observational skills.
We couldn't be happier to send our child to The Butterfly Patch, South Norwood. The staff are fantastic with him and communicate really well with us. He's really happy there which means the world to us. They have a strong focus on his development which we really value. They have a brilliant app so we get updates on his days which are always great to receive. We'd highly recommend it to any other parents.
She was sometimes-ish with her old nursery, not always wanting to go, but now she is always happy and rushes off. It makes me really happy when she says "yay" when I tell her we're going to nursery.
The staff are really wonderful and kind, seeming genuinely happy to see her, and I love seeing the pictures of her playing, doing sports or enjoying forest school. I'm extremely pleased that we made the choice to move her there.
We couldn’t be happier sending our daughter to The Butterfly Patch. She has formed such a special bond with both the kids and carers, who we feel really care for her and have her best interests at heart. She is developing really well and is a happy, confident little girl when at nursery. Can’t recommend it enough, so glad we found The Butterfly Patch.
We couldn’t be happier with the care that our daughter receives at The Butterfly Patch. She is developing really well across all areas, from the more educational to the more social aspects of a toddler’s development. We know that the staff take her development really seriously and that she is really cared for and her individual needs catered to.
We’ve been so pleased with how well looked after our little boy has been. He is happy and settled and progressing really well, and it’s clear that the staff genuinely really care for him. The only downside is the limited outside space, and it is at the front of the nursery on a relatively busy road, but the children are taken out regularly on trips to forest school, the library, etc, so this isn’t a big issue.
Please be aware:
The nursery only offers half a day of government funded hours at a time, even if you are entitled to 30 hours. If you need a whole day of childcare you will have to continue to pay for it when your hours kick in.
They also charge for a whole half term of hours at a time, so if you want to change to another nursery to get a full day's care, they may not transfer your hours.
If you are parent who needs government funded hours to work a full day - as I am - you won't be able to access that at this nursery.
Our daughter has been at The Butterfly Patch for 8 months now - since she was 13 months old - and I have been so pleased with our choice! As a first-time parent, transitioning back to full time work after being on maternity leave was a big milestone, but the team at the Butterfly Patch made it so much easier due to the kindness, diligence and care they demonstrated, and continue to demonstrate on a daily basis to the children who attend there. The nursery manager is fantastic and has the excellent skill of being able to hold high expectations (running a tight ship) whilst maintaining warm and positive relationships with children, staff and parents. Our daughter’s key workers are intuitive, caring and invested, and it’s great to have an open line of communication through the Famly App. We are so pleased that we found a local nursery that was so aligned with our philosophy and approach. Thank you!

Meet the Team (2)
Started my child care career when I finished school in 2009. I studied for two years at college whilst obtaining experience in a day nursery as part of my qualification I completed my experience and they offered me a permanent role.
During this time I also completed my Level 5 leadership and management in children and young people's services. I completed this course to help me further my career to management in child care.
In March 2015 I moved to Egypt for 12 months to work in a nursery. During this time I worked with a range of different families of cultures from around the world. I implemented the Early Years Foundation Stage ethos into the setting and was amazed to see how the children excelled and how much our families responded to the approach.
I returned back to the UK in April 2016 I became a manager of a brand new nursery. I was finally able to put all of my experience and knowledge into full practice. In this setting I achieved a "Good" Ofsted grade and continues to support the nursery and to staff to their full potential. I thrived of seeing not only the staff learn new things but the children excelling and being supported by such loving, caring and nurturing staff.
In November 2017 I decided that it was time to spread my wings, I had worked for the same company for my whole child care career in the UK and it was time to move on. This is when I found The Butterfly Patch.
Children are at the heart of everything we do, children’s welfare and safeguarding is central to all of our decision making. Our staff feel valued and supported from management.
In April 2019 I then transferred to the South Norwood setting to help launch and support the setting in the opening weeks. During this time I was also given a promotion to Area manager and now over see 5 Butterfly Patches
Sonia is the manager of our amazing South Norwood nursery! At that location, we are certified in The Curiosity Approach and love to follow it! Using free and found items in learning and play.
