The Butterfly Patch Morden Park Forest School and Nursery opened their doors and the forest in January 2019.

The nursery specialises in providing excellent childcare within the Ofsted framework and early years foundation stage along with the forest school ethos.

The nursery is about developing the children through play in a natural environment whether it is whittling or craving with sharp knives, learning the process of a campfire, looking at the different types of trees, mini beasts, fauna and flora.

The nursery is outside based between 60 per cent and 80 per cent of the day.

We absolutely love The Butterfly Patch in Morden. Our son has been going since he was just 1 year old. The staff are warm, caring, and truly dedicated to the children, and the environment is always welcoming, and full of fun activities. We've seen our son grow in confidence, learn new skills, and build
wonderful relationships with all the staff. We couldn't be happier with the care he receives. We highly recommend it!

My child has been at Butterfly Parch in Morden for over 18 months and his experience and time there brings us all lots of joy. He is happy, developing well, supported by staff and given consistent care and attention. The team there are very engaged with him and responsive to him and they make huge amounts
of effort with outings and activities for parents and children.

Absolutely lovely nursery. Onsite staff are amazing and very kind, safe and friendly with my daughter.
It's not the cheapest but I feel it's the most fulfilling in our method how we wish to big up our daughter.

My daughter started at the nursery in September when she was 13 months old and I could honestly not recommend it enough. The staff are all so friendly and accomodating and you can tell they genuinely care. They plan a wide range of activities for the children each day, keep you regularly updated throughout
the day and all of the kids (mine included!) always look so happy in the photos and are always having so much fun. My daughter practically leaps out of my arms over to the staff in the morning as she is so excited to see them and start the day! She has developed so much since starting - it was the best decision!

Our son has been at the Butterfly Patch for 18 months and is so settled and absolutely loves it. The staff are all fantastic - he knows all of them by name which has made transitions to older rooms easy, and they are genuinely caring and nurturing. We always feel listened to as parents and receive regular
updates on his progress. The staff provide detailed summaries of each day which helps us understand what he's been up to and means we can chat about the activities he did and who he was with. Our son loves the forest school sessions which are creative and have greatly helped him develop physical skills - from toasting marshmallows to wading in rivers, he does activities we would never do at home. You will do lots more washing as a result! The nursery often arranges events for parents to get to know staff and other parents. We are so glad we chose this nursery.

This is a wonderful nursery. Our daughter is so excited to go every day and always comes home telling the most amazing stories about what they got up to that day. She especially enjoys being out in the forest every day. It's the best.
The teachers are so kind and really care so much about the children
they look after. We are so lucky to have found such a wonderful nursery.

Excellent nursery. My daughter comes home every day saying how much fun she has had. The staff are all very caring and know the kids well. There is a lot of encouragement and hugs. The Forest School is varied and my daughter loves being outside so much. She climbs trees, jumps in puddles, and gets covered
in mud no matter what the weather!
The only slight downside is the communication to parents from the nursery manager returning from maternity leave hasn’t been as good as the person covering while she was off.

We are very happy that we chose the Butterfly Patch, our son has been going for three years. He has developed strong relationships with his key workers and the forest teachers. He loves all the activities they do out in the park, from climbing trees, sliding down mudslides, exploring the little stream
and puddles or finding mushrooms and identifying trees. He not only learned to do all of that safely but also strengthened his independence getting ready by himself and even helping the younger children. We are always updated about their adventures through the app and at pick-up. The staff are lovely and caring, they all know the children well and truly care about them. We would recommend it to any outdoorsy family.

Amazing staff and nursery. Our son is really settled after just a few months. They take the kids out each day - including the babies - and do things we wouldn’t normally do helping them to develop and be creative. Friendly and attentive staff and excellent communication

Our daughter has been at the Butterfly Patch in Morden for 1.5 years now and she loves it. The staff are friendly and well trained. The forest school aspect of the nursery is why we chose it in the first place. The forest school staff encourage children to explore and interact with the world around
them. This has developed her social and inquisitive nature. The regular updates on the app throughout the day allow parents to rest assured that their little one is safe and well. We are really pleased we chose the Butterfly Patch, Morden.

My daughter absolutely thrives at the Butterfly Patch. She's grown into a very curious, adventurous, social little girl with a great vocabulary and amazing motor skills with their help and care. The staff are fantastic and especially the forest school teachers, whose passion for outdoor learning is
phenomenal - the children get to play outdoors and learn about nature, while climbing, digging, discovering wildlife, carrying/transporting, painting and sculpting, splashing in rivers, climbing trees, building dens, along with dozens of other activities - we're very lucky to have the benefit of their skills and knowledge.

Our son has been going to the Butterfly Patch since he was 6 months old. The staff have been amazing and he settled quickly and nicely. The constantly active lifestyle, need to go outside and curiosity to explore are contributing to turning him into a gentle, nature-loving boy who has amazing climbing
skills! The carers do an amazing job of integrating aspects of learning in child-led play and our boy is thriving and making so much progress on fine and gross motor skills, language and social skills. The extended hours are a big plus as we're both working parents and we've been able to take advantage of some amazing offers to add in extra days when needed. Management runs smoothly. We feel able to speak about our child's needs (dropping dummy, increasing naps, etc) and the staff will go above and beyond to help out. We highly recommend the nursery to anyone who listens!

My little one joined the nursery in Spring 2021, as a 1-year-old pandemic baby. Settling in took some adjustment, but the staff were so caring not only to him but to us as parents too. Constant regular contact, and clear happiness to listen to any concerns or questions we had, as well as make changes
to help our son adjust, meant that we felt really comfortable during this disruptive period. He quickly became used to nursery life and it was clear that the affection between him and the staff members went both ways, with him obviously feeling very safe in their presence. This was especially useful as forest school introduces children to such new experiences, which take some getting used to. The team expose the children to fantastic adventures, making use of the streams, trees, woodland, wildlife, and other aspects of nature all available to them in the park. Now a proper toddler, our little boy has flourished in walking, talking, and exploring, all thanks to The Butterfly Patch.

As a Forest School nursery, the children experience a wide range of outdoor led activities as well as the usual indoor sticking, painting, model making type stuff you would expect. The daily Forest School activities have really increased my child’s confidence but also their ability to understand boundaries
and stay safe in potentially dangerous situations - near rivers or in high places. My child has learnt to approach the top of the stairs on their knees and looks over the edge laying on their belly to guard against potential falls, for example. The Forest School activities will advance with them as they grow and will stay with them as valuable life skills.

The nursery manager is a genius. The whole operation runs so smoothly and all the children are given enormous amounts of attention. We love how much time they spend outside, getting used to the outdoors with a seemingly endless and imaginative list of activities. All of this is reported to the parents
in great detail using an app and we feel we know what our child is doing each day. They seem to be happy to cater to any dietary requirements and our picky son seems to love the food, they tell us on the app exactly what and how much he ate. Three months in and he now runs to the door whenever I say "do you want to go to nursery?". They also genuinely care about his development, they flagged up several milestones that he wasn't hitting and heavily encouraged us to solve them, with helpful suggestions. We also love how warm they are and how much time they seem to have to cuddle the children that need it and they have chickens!

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.552) out of 10 for The Butterfly Patch Morden Park Forest School and Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.852 for The Butterfly Patch Morden Park Forest School and Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (92 Excellents x 5) + (16 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.852
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.7 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for The Butterfly Patch Morden Park Forest School and Nursery is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 = 3.7
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 40 number of registered child places is 8, which has been reached with 9 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
