Average experience. Little consistency in staffing, heavy reliance on agency, and staff get shifted between rooms and sites - at times would question ratios with qualified staff. Poor facilities, often untidy outside and many blankets, toys and books left outside overnight. Unlikely to be cleaned. No good outside facilities compared to neighbouring nurseries. Overly ambitious food menu for little tummies, expensive surplus for funded 3-4-year-olds. Individually staff are nice and capable but would appear little resource to support staff needs or new staffing and old toys and resources used for children which would make things difficult.

Reply from Emma Green, Servicewide Business Manager at Jesters Day Nursery and Pre-School, Beaulieu

We appreciate that not everyone finds that the nursery is suitable for them but this review is prejudicial and it is disappointing that the reviewer has seen fit to try to tarnish a reputation built on strong principles of excellent childcare, a focus on safeguarding and providing a home from home...

Another wonderful experience at Jesters stay-and-play. I'm always blown away by how fantastic all the nursery teachers are and how well they know the children and engage with them. Thank you for making us feel so welcome at the session this morning and for all the fun activities. My son Alistair and I had a lovely time.

The staff at the nursery are all so friendly and always professional. They genuinely care about my son, and his key workers have all been amazing. As a mother on her own, the support from this nursery is everything to me. They support my son's learning, and he is so happy there. He forms friendships and learns valuable social skills. The meetings to discuss his progress are regular and well thought out. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this nursery. For my son and I, it is a real source of happiness in our lives. We love the nursery and all the staff.

I was nervous at first about dropping my one-year-old daughter to nursery. The staff were so welcoming and accommodating to help her settle in. They plan a diverse range of activities throughout the day, including outdoor play, painting, water play, and reading/singing/dancing.
I love how the garden is a shared space, so my daughter was able to interact and learn from older children as well as her peers.
The food is good quality and varied, and the nursery is now in constant open communication with parents about taking feedback and further improving nursery provisions.
They have recently removed the term-time-only provision, which is a shame.
The nursery has recently launched a new app to provide live daily updates. The use of this app has been a little bit slow and inconsistent, however, it is improving as they get to grips with the software.
One lady at Jesters (who was in Fawn's room) is particularly wonderful, and my daughter adores her.

Overall, definitely recommend.

My children have absolutely thrived in this setting. All staff are so friendly and truly care. The food is varied and nutritious. When we drop our children off, they run into the nursery, and we don’t worry, as it feels like we are dropping them off to family.

We moved our daughter to Jesters after a poor experience with a nearby nursery. We have been delighted by how our daughter has settled in and loves her time there. The management team have navigated some difficult challenges during the pandemic and have had to find their feet, but the care our child has received has remained outstanding throughout. She skips into ‘school’ (as she calls it) and is always smiling when she leaves, which gives us total confidence she is being entertained and nurtured throughout the day. After some initial technical stumbles with their new ‘app' system, the reports as to how she’s doing come through regularly and with sufficient detail for us to trust the team have everything in hand, and we’re very pleased with how it works. All of the team know our daughter by name, and it’s clear they care about her progress and wellbeing. Special thanks to one lady, who she adores. Thanks, Jesters.

Staff are exceptionally good. Management needs significant improvement as communication is not transparent and parents are not involved. Slow to answer standard inquiries and answers are incoherent and inconsistent. Invoices are difficult to understand. Steep price increases for no additional value. Parents wait 10-25 min on average every day outside in the cold to collect their kids.

My son transferred to Jesters from another nursery and all of the staff have made the transition so smooth. They have supported him so well and he loves coming to nursery now. He has made friends and is keen to tell us about what he has done during his day. He spends plenty of time outdoors and enjoys the activities available to him. The staff are always available to talk to and nothing is too much trouble. He has settled so well and is loving his days at Jesters. Would thoroughly recommend.

My daughter has started nursery at Jesters this year. Leaving your child at nursery for the first time is quite a stressful situation, and I must say that all staff at Jesters have been extremely reassuring and have made me feel at ease with this transition. The appearance of Jesters feels very modern with also providing a very warming feel to it. Staff are really good at keeping you up to date with their daily activities, very happy with this nursery.

My eldest son joined Jesters 2 years ago in the baby room and has worked his way up to the preschool. The nursery is a bright, open and modern purpose-built setting with generous outdoor space, conveniently situated near the heart of the Beaulieu development. While our son has grown over the last 2 years, so has the nursery. Besides a few small teething problems in the early days, Jesters did a great job of keeping the show on the road during the pandemic and has definitely come out the other side stronger, more organised and better able to provide outstanding care to its children. Over the last 6 months, there have been some new staff join who are great, as well as experienced existing staff members with additional responsibilities. The Director of Jesters is passionate about pedagogy and has a positive influence on the culture. The nursery is now more connected to parents, optimising communication through Tapestry, drop off/pick-up and periodic parents evening sessions. Would I recommend i? Definitely!

Our daughter has been going since the age of 2, she is now in her last year before going on to reception and she has really flourished.
She has made so many friends along with great relationships with all the members of staff.
Every morning she goes in happy and bubbly to see her friends and comes out even more happy and bubbly from having a great day.
The staff always keep us up to date with our daughter's progress, what she's done during the day either when picking up or via Tapestry.

The kids also have a good range of meals for them to try (they've even got my daughter eating fruit and veg!) and they cater excellently for the ones who have any form of allergies.

My little boy loves going to Pre School, he gets very excited, this is a testament to the nursery. There is no better feeling when you know you're leaving your son in safe hands and leaving him somewhere he enjoys to go.
All the staff are friendly and helpful, they take a genuine interest in the well-being of your child.

My older son goes to holiday club, he was very upset to hear he couldn’t go this half term due to COVID rules! But I’m sure when they can resume the club he will be very excited.

Our daughter is just loving going to Jesters! Such a great nursery,  at the very beginning they've done brilliantly to comfort her and help her to settle well. Our daughter is a fussy eater, at Jesters they have really helped improve her eating habits so we are very thankful for that! Overall, great staff, very friendly, highly qualified and always ready to help. Thank you, Jesters!

Hollie Russell
Background

Hello, I am the Head of Curriculum & Inclusion, developing and nurturing our Jesters pre-schoolers. I have always had an immense passion for helping others and making a difference, and because of this, I always knew I wanted to work with children, positively impacting their lives and helping them thrive and learn.

The Jesters Family

Growing up, I always admired my teachers and couldn’t wait until I could inspire other young children, too. I completed my University Degree in Early Years and Primary Education and QTS Qualifications, and have been working in childcare and education since 2014. I have loved every minute and continue to do so here at Jesters.

Outside work

In my spare time, I enjoy walking and cuddling my two dogs, Ralph and Willow; they are adorable and playful. I also enjoy spending time with my family, watching movies and cooking each other’s dinners.

Favourite children’s book

My favourite children’s book is Superworm by Julia Donaldson. This book has been extremely lucky for me, as I based an activity and lesson around it, and thankfully, I was successful. It is also an excellent read for children and my go-to in the classroom. I know firsthand that the children enjoy it as much as I enjoy reading it to them.

Background

Hello, I’m Rachel, Head of Education & Wellbeing at Jesters. I have over 12 years of experience in childcare and education, and have taught in both nursery and school settings. I am passionate about child development and will always go above and beyond to ensure that all children are provided with exceptional learning and care opportunities.

The Jesters Family

I am part of the leadership teams at all Jesters settings. My role is to shape education and the curriculum across the service. I have Early Years Professional status.

Outside work

In my spare time, I enjoy watching a good documentary or my favourite football team. I love reading, gardening and being outdoors.

Favourite children’s book

My favourite book is The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson, as it reminds me of my childhood. My Grandparents used to read it to me to help me get over my fear. Happily, ‘Plop’ got over his fear, however I did not!

Katy Sullivan Job Title: Deputy Curriculum Manager Joined: 2025

Background

Hi, my name is Katy, and I am the Deputy Curriculum Manager at Jesters Beaulieu. I have worked in education since 2010, and I am passionate about creating memorable moments for children.

The Jesters Family

I joined the Jesters Family in April 2025 after relocating back to Essex after my maternity leave. I started as Room Leader and have now progressed to Deputy Curriculum Manager. Previously, I worked as a Primary School Teacher and now love supporting others in planning and delivering meaningful and purposeful lessons.

Outside work

I love spending time with my family, walking our dog and exploring new villages and seaside towns. I regularly visit my son’s family in Spain and love exploring and learning about different cultures.

Favourite children’s book

My favourite children’s book is The BFG by Roald Dahl. It was one of the first books that made me love reading. My favourite book to read to my little boy is The Bellybutton Book by Sandra Boynton, as it always makes us laugh!

Amy Saxon Job Title: Deputy Operations Manager Joined: 2025

Background

Hello, my name is Amy, and I am the Deputy Operations Manager here at Jesters Beaulieu. I hold a Level 3 qualification in Childcare and a Level 3 in Management Principles. I have worked within the childcare sector for over 10 years, in various roles including Nursery Practitioner within a private school, Nannying, SEN Support and Family Support Worker within the community.

The Jesters Family

The reason I chose Jesters is that both of my children attended the setting, and I loved the caring, homely feel the setting had to it and the love and nurture they gave my boys. I strongly believe that nurseries build strong foundations for children’s development and future success through play and engaging activities. I am passionate about how children can understand and manage their emotions and enjoy implementing emotional regulation into everyday activities, ensuring these activities are both fun and educational.

Outside Work

During my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, watching my boys play football, and walking our family dog.

Favourite children’s book

My favourite book is Simon Sock by Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet. I feel this book has such a special message for young people to understand that we are all unique and to find happiness in being an individual.

Hello, my name is Jessica. My career within the childcare sector started in 2012 upon completing my Level 3 qualification. In 201,7 I progressed and achieved my Level 5 Diploma in Childcare and Management.

The Jesters Family

Since returning to Jesters after a career break and the birth of my 1st daughter in September 2023, I have gravitated back to that feeling of belonging. My own childhood was magical, and I wish to offer those unique experiences with the ethos and opportunities I’m invested in.

Outside work

Socialising with friends, coffee meet-ups, and baby groups have become my new hobbies, and I cherish every moment! I have a Chihuahua called Wills who loves to be spoilt, and why shouldn’t he!?

Favourite children’s book
