Jesters Nursery School in the heart of Danbury village is a "Home of School Readiness'. Set in the historic, Victorian ‘Old School House’, steeped in children’s learning and education, and headed up by the qualified teaching team, children prepare for their next step to more formal education once at primary school through their unique and successful School Readiness Programme.

This exclusive Nursery School is part of a co-location set up with Jesters Bicknacre Nursery in the neighbouring village of Bicknacre. Once children at Bicknacre reach pre-school age they will naturally transition to Danbury and integrate with new pre-schoolers joining Jesters for the first time wanting to gain the best start to becoming 'School Ready'.

The light and airy classroom, carefully designed outdoor play spaces and playground offer endless opportunities for learning through play and independence. They are also lucky to have huge open playing fields and play park directly opposite the setting which they visit often, and the adjacent bus stop provides links to other local areas which the children thoroughly enjoy!

My daughter moved here from another local setting where she struggled to settle, from her first settling in visit at Jesters she appeared happier and more confident to leave me.

The environment is small and friendly and the staff are kind, attentive and enjoy interacting with the children.

There

are different structured activities every session with visits to the library and the local park which are highlights for my daughter.

The management are very flexible and are keen to support your needs as well as your child’s.

It was the best decision we have made moving her to Jesters where she is really flourishing and being helped to get ready for her transition to school.

My daughter goes to pre-school at Jesters and my son attends the before/after school clubs and the team are brilliant.

The pre-schoolers are in a lovely, small, group environment that is warm and welcoming. They are being prepared for school with pe lessons and phonics sessions and get involved in

loads of great activities that I haven’t experienced in larger settings. This is the happiest she has been in childcare.

My son also loves attending, in fact, wants me to book in more days a week.

From a practical perspective, it is great having both kids in one place for pick up, despite age gap and holiday club is fab too!

All in all, best childcare provider I have experienced.

My twin boys were at a different pre-school and it was clear they did not enjoy going. It would get to their days to attend and my wife and I would be met with tears and tantrums. We understood a new pre-school was opening and we knew one of the team leading the pre-school which filled us with confidence.
We made the change for our boys and have not looked back. They now enjoy going, have made friends and are learning. The educational piece the pre-school applies is simple and fun, the atmosphere is fun and engaging. This really resonates with our children and from the time I pick up or drop my children it would appear it resonates with the others that go. The only thing I would say is I wish Jesters pre-school had been around earlier as we would have made the change earlier. Our next challenge is convincing the boys that they will be leaving Jesters to start big school, queue tears and tantrums. Thank you Jesters team.

The proof is in the pudding and the pudding is a happy child who appears to be thriving at Jesters, so Jesters should take the credit for this.

My little boy really enjoys going to Jesters he loves playing with his friends and going for walks to the library and the park.

I was a little nervous when he started as we moved him from another nursery but all the staff and children made him very welcome and he settled very quickly.

All the

staff are friendly and the children love them, I’m pleased I chose Jesters.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.604)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.604) out of 10 for Jesters Nursery School Danbury is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.7 out of 5 from 17 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.9 out of 5 from 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.704 for Jesters Nursery School Danbury is calculated as follows: ( (177 Excellents x 5) + (14 Goods x 4) + (2 Poors x 2) + (10 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 203 Ratings = 4.704
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.9 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Jesters Nursery School Danbury is based on 16 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 + 0.025 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 20 number of registered child places is 4, which has been reached with 16 Positive reviews. Points = 1
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Deputy Nursery School Operations Manager Joined: 2018

Background
Hello, I am Phoebe, Danbury Deputy Nursery School Operations Manager and our co-located site Bicknacre Nursery Manager – shared role with Becky. I have been working in the childcare sector since 2016, gaining my Level 3 qualification in 2018. I have also completed my Level 4 in Nursery Management in 2020. I started my journey with Jesters as a Nursery Practitioner in 2018, helping to open our sister site in Beaulieu.

The Jesters Family
Working in managerial roles across both sites is such an incredible experience. I love that the children’s personalities are really starting to show, especially the cheeky side! Most of my professional career has been at Jesters, and I love their values and ethos throughout the settings.

Outside Work
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my partner and my little boy, Dougie. We love to go for walks to the park and explore the wonderful places around us.

Favourite children’s book
Growing up, my favourite book was The Magic Faraway Tree by Enid Blyton. It reminds me of the time I would read it at my Grandma’s house and we talk about which ‘lands’ we wanted to go to. Mine would always be ‘The Land of Dreams!’

Job Title: Deputy Nursery School & Curriculum Manager Joined: 2024

Background
Hello, my name is Kylie, and I am the Deputy Nursery School & Curriculum Manager at Danbury. I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Education and have worked in education for over 10 years. I have always known that I wanted to go into teaching, as I am passionate about learning and ensuring that education is accessible to all children.

I was born and raised in South Africa and immigrated with my family in 2021. I worked in a Primary School in South Africa and assisted many nurseries there to enable children to be school-ready. Upon immigrating, I worked in an Infant School as an assistant so as to expand my SEND and curriculum knowledge.

The Jesters Family
I joined Jesters in December 2024 and have been warmly welcomed by all the various team members and children! My role is to work within the School Readiness Programme to enable the children in my care to be as socially, physically, emotionally and intellectually ready for formal schooling.

Outside work
In my spare time, I enjoy being outdoors with my husband and little boy! We love to explore the forests around us and splash in every muddy puddle in sight!

Favourite children’s book
My favourite book is The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. It is a story of a little girl whose art teacher helps her to develop a ‘can-do’ attitude. Vashti is sure that she can’t draw, but when her teacher puts Vashti’s simple dot picture on display, Vashti begins to think of what else she might be able to draw, too, if she is only willing to give it a try.

I love this book as it embodies a growth mindset and shows that a simple belief from a teacher can spark a child’s potential! I enjoy participating in Dot Day to showcase this book and its underlying message.

Background
Hello, I am the Head of Curriculum & Inclusion, developing and nurturing our Jesters pre-schoolers. I have always had an immense passion for helping others and making a difference, and because of this, I always knew I wanted to work with children, positively impacting their lives and helping them thrive and learn.

The Jesters Family
Growing up, I always admired my teachers and couldn’t wait until I could inspire other young children, too. I completed my University Degree in Early Years and Primary Education and QTS Qualifications, and have been working in childcare and education since 2014. I have loved every minute and continue to do so here at Jesters.

Outside work
In my spare time, I enjoy walking and cuddling my two dogs, Ralph and Willow; they are adorable and playful. I also enjoy spending time with my family, watching movies and cooking each other’s dinners.

Favourite children’s book
My favourite children’s book is Superworm by Julia Donaldson. This book has been extremely lucky for me, as I based an activity and lesson around it, and thankfully, I was successful. It is also an excellent read for children and my go-to in the classroom. I know firsthand that the children enjoy it as much as I enjoy reading it to them.

Outside work

Favourite children’s book
My favourite book is The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark by Jill Tomlinson, as it reminds me of my childhood. My Grandparents used to read it to me to help me get over my fear. Happily, ‘Plop’ got over his fear, however I did not!
