The nursery became part of Children 1st Day Nurseries in 2017 and since then has undergone a wide-ranging indoor and outdoor refurbishment programme to bring it up to the same high standards of the other nurseries run by Children 1st. The children love the setting's secure, enclosed outdoor play area which provides the opportunity for them to explore nature and develop physically. The nursery's well-trained staff know the children very well and share their high expectations to help them develop independence and self-care skills in a safe and secure environment.
The nursery also has a separate, well equipped baby suite, where the youngest children can explore and develop with children of a similar age.
Birstall welcomes close liaison with families so that everyone can work together to support the child’s well-being. The staff aim to create a warm and welcoming ethos which ensures children are happy, safe and secure.

Brought out a side to my daughter that doesn’t show often. Has become more confident in a lot of aspects. I have no issues to raise with the care of my child. She absolutely loves going there.
The only one issue is parking. It can be difficult getting in and out at busy times.

Cannot rate this nursery enough. Both of my girls are so happy here. The staff are excellent and really so care since the refurb the nursery looks amazing and the outside facilities are great. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this nursery to anyone.

Such an amazing nursery, I highly recommend Children 1st @ Birstall. My daughter is so happy here, no tears when I leave her in the morning and always big happy smiles when I pick her up in the evening! The staff here are just excellent, my daughter has bonded with and enjoys spending time with all of them. The food here is great too and my daughter's healthy appetite is well catered for, she regularly has seconds at mealtimes and loves being able to pick a healthy snack when leaving after a long day learning and playing!! The atmosphere here is great and the staff all seem to love and take pride in their jobs and their workplace. The facilities here are up to date, age appropriate for the differing settings and well looked after and cared for. Overall I can’t fault this nursery.

Since our first visit to the nursery, we knew this was a remarkable place. We were instantly put at ease when leaving our little one for the first time. We have huge confidence in the care that is delivered and can not rate the staff more highly. They are always approachable and professional, caring and compassionate. On a daily basis, we receive a thorough and detailed handover of care. We are always kept informed of all the wonderful things our little one has been up to and we particularly love receiving the photos and accounts throughout the day of activities that she has been involved with. Our little girl has thrived beyond our expectations since being at nursery. She absolutely loves her time there. As a family, we cannot rate it more highly and would most certainly recommend to anyone that is looking for a nursery. Thank you.

All the staff are incredible! They are friendly and always on hand to help and answer any questions or worries and will always provide an update at the end of the day.
The children have a variety of food to eat (on a 4 weekly rota) and snacks are provided throughout the day.
This nursery is amazing and the transformation from what it was to what it is now is just wonderful.
Children 1st @ Birstall took over management of the nursery in summer of 2017, so I feel it's a little early to comment. However, I haven't had any problems and the tradition was fairly smooth. We still have the same practitioners so the kids and I are happy with that.

We obviously liked it before to choose it, however, now it is absolutely amazing and like no other nursery we visited in the area. Newly refurbished with bright open plan rooms with beautiful toys and play equipment with the most amazing outside play area and great staff - what's not to like? I'm so glad we got in before all the changes as when the word gets out I imagine there will be a huge waiting list!

Hi, I’m Jo and I have been working in childcare since 2011. Over the years, I have been fortunate enough to work in a variety of roles, from supporting children directly to leading teams and managing nursery settings.
I am passionate about giving children the very best start in life and creating an environment where they feel safe, valued, loved and excited to learn. I believe every child is unique and deserves opportunities to grow in confidence, develop independence and reach their full potential at their own pace.
As Nursery Manager at Birstall Children’s 1st Nursery, I take great pride in building strong relationships with children, families and staff. I love being part of each child’s journey and supporting families through the important early years of their children’s lives. Watching children develop new skills, build friendships and achieve important milestones is one of the most rewarding parts of my role.
I hold qualifications as a Montessori Directress, Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL), SENCO and Nursery Manager. I have also achieved a Level 5 Operational and Departmental Management qualification and am currently completing my Level 5 Lead Practitioner qualification in Early Years.
I believe in leading by example and taking a hands-on approach within the nursery. Supporting my team to grow in confidence, develop their skills and provide exceptional care and education is something I am incredibly passionate about. I am a firm believer that the best outcomes for children come from strong partnerships between home and nursery, where everyone works together to support each child’s development.
Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and keeping active.
After more than 15 years in Early Years, I still feel incredibly privileged to do a job that makes such a positive difference to children’s lives. Seeing children flourish, families feel supported, and staff achieve their goals is what continues to inspire me every day.
