Rated Outstanding by Ofsted (June 2023), New Cross Nursery & Pre-School provides childcare and education to children from birth to 5 years old.

The Nursery is based in New Cross, close to the station. It's a bright, modern setting with separate rooms and gardens for different age groups.

The experienced staff believe the key to learning is variety. There are lots of activities to try… cooking, science experiments, yoga, woodwork, messy play, and more! The children also love to get out and about, enjoying trips to the park, market and local library. Families can join in the fun too, with breakfasts for mums and dads and tea parties for grandparents.

A dedicated chef prepares all meals using healthy recipes from LEYF’s menu.

We started at the nursery after my maternity ended and my son was a year old. It was quite a difficult seperation for both me & my son. However he settled & thoroughly enjoyed it after a few months. Things I love about the nursery -
There are good, healthy homemade meals, natural sugars.
They take
the children on small trips to the market & library.
They emphasize on outdoor & montisori play, like baking.
I love their sustainable ether & practice throughout.
Learning & development through activities.
The spaces are designed well for their age.
Toilets are accessible for 2-4 year olds.
I love that my son has a great relationship with the staff.

An excellent nursery where staff are well trained, clearly love their job and are very caring with children. They have always provided feedback at the end of the end day taking the time to debrief us on our child's day. Menus are well balanced and prepared with care and the kids are entertained with
many activities promoting language, musical awareness, physical agility etc.
We're glad our child attends New Cross and wouldn't hesitate to recommend.

My son was here for just over three years, from when he was ten months old to when he started school. He had a wonderful time and our experience was also very good. There was a period when there was no permanent leadership and things got a bit chaotic, but then the current team took over and the improvement
was marked, culminating in the Ofsted Outstanding rating which was richly deserved. We will all miss the staff who did a great job.

My child has been at New Cross Nursery since he was one in the baby room and now he is in the toddler room. We couldn’t be happier with the nursery and feel like it is a very special place and feel incredible lucky to have found it. All of the staff have always been so communicative, both verbally and
through the app. For me, it has the perfect balance of following our child’s interests and giving him the freedom to explore (in their amazing outdoor and indoor spaces), as well as provoking thought and development through experiments and interactions. Their gentle and developmentally appropriate approach to supporting with emotions and behaviour feels just right for us. He has so much fun there and we feel he is safe and well looked after and developing great relationships. Thank you New Cross Nursery!

Excellent experience so far. My son has been attending LEYF New Cross for a year and a half. The first year was in the baby room and since then, in the toddler room. He loves going in, and his development has come on leaps and bounds. The teachers thoughtfully plan out their daily activities, always
focusing on their development and creating a fun and safe environment. plus, the new garden looks fab!
Management seems very organised, helpful and friendly.

Our son has grown and learnt, played and made friends at a super caring preschool and nursery. They foster in their children a great sense of responsibility and independence. I’m a stickler for nutrition and am always impressed with their nosh. Fortunately for the younger ones, the play area has now
a brilliant addition of plants, play areas, obstacles and objects. These additions show an unstoppable motivation to stimulate the children, given their implementation was post-Ofsted awarding the preschool nursery ‘outstanding’.
Fantastic staff highly valued by us parents. We wish they get paid what they deserve.

We moved our 18 month old daughter after some serious issues at another local nursery and she has settled at Leyf so brilliantly with the help of the incredible team in the baby room. Within a week our daughter was noticeably more confident and now, five months on, bounds into the room without looking
back. She’s now moving to toddlers gradually and it's being managed really well. Her speaking and socialisation development have been incredible to see, but the most special thing for us is how happy and safe she is there. Every single member of the team is so welcoming and shows love to our little girl. They’re notably also so conscientious, professional and kind to us as parents. I feel as supported as our daughter is. Communication is fantastic and facilities are brilliant too. It’s made me so confident that she has the best care I’ve felt like I can go back to work five days a week. It’s genuinely been life-changing. Thank you, you’re all a brilliant team and exceptional humans, doing a very tough job.

Our son has been at Leyf New Cross nursery since December 2016. From the baby room to pre-school, he has thrived. The manager and her team are doing an excellent job of caring for the children. The staff are warm, welcoming and nurturing. We could not have been happier. We will all miss you!

I am very pleased with New Cross nursery so far. Our son has settled in extremely well and has developed exponentially since starting nursery 2-months ago. The staff are all very friendly and professional, the food is excellent quality, and the activities are well thought out. I feel confident knowing
that my son is happy and well cared for every day. We are very fortunate to have such an excellent nursery nearby. I would definitely recommend New Cross Nursery to other families in the area.

We have nothing but positive things to say about this nursery. They are super, caring and attentive. If there are any concerns or issues, they resolve it really quickly and with kindness. My two children love it, and we look forward to them looking after our third one when they arrive.

My son arrived at New Cross Nursery when he was 13 months. The baby's room staff are incredible and it directly felt a home from home for him. My son enjoyed it so much, and we much appreciated the daily feedback, the food diversity and the amazing range of activities they proposed. My son has now moved
to the toddler's room and nothing has changed: friendly and professional staff, creative activities and they even developed an app so we can trace what's happening to our child during the lockdown. My son runs to the nursery door every morning and comes back with a big smile when I pick him up...what more could I expect?
New Cross nursery and all its staff is a rare gem in which you can put all your trust in! Thank you all for being so amazing with our children!

Our daughter returned to nursery after lockdown, and we were expecting her to not manage very well. But we have been pleasantly surprised by how well she's taken back to it, and believe this has a huge amount to do with the brilliant staff there. Many of the staff have commented on how her confidence
has grown and have taken on board information we've given about her development during lockdown, and are striving to work with her in these areas. On one occasion there was a tricky drop-off, but the manager made the effort to get in touch with me later in the day to let me know she was doing well. Our daughter is happy and comfortable at nursery, has lots of fun and likes the staff very much.

The nursery is such a loving and caring environment. Everyone in the team is very warm, they all know my daughter by name and she enjoys seeing them every morning we go in. They have adapted well to the new normal, given us all the details of what goes on along the day, and keeping us informed about
her activities and routines. Seeing my child so happy and well looked after gives me the peace of mind and assurance that she could not be in better hands!

New Cross is a very special nursery - my child only joined a couple of months ago and settled quicker than I could have hoped and is excited and loves going to nursery. The staff and management team are brilliant - they're caring and friendly and provide feedback each day on all the wonderful and fun
activities (including lots of water play and outdoor activities) that my child gets up to as well as weekly written observations on my child's development. The management team are also very responsive and have been very good about incorporating and keeping parents updated on their COVID policies. The food seems great - the menu is very varied and healthy and I know they cater for any allergies or dietary requirements. The outside space is large compared to other nurseries and the baby room has good facilities - including a separate indoor soft playroom which I know they love exploring.

We love how focused the nursery is on play and development through play. The kids just seem to have so much fun with the committed and energetic staff team and their friends. Our child has been encouraged to become an independent, creative and kind little boy during his time at the nursery and has made
such a lovely group of friends. Diverse in many ways, the nursery also seems to reflect the area in which we live. Highly recommended.

My son has attended New Cross nursery since he was six months - he’ll be three in October so he’s gone from baby room to the room he’s in now, which is toddlers.
I feel extremely fortunate to have found such a wonderful nursery - the staff are supportive, kind, and they care, going above and beyond
each time. Management is strong and effective. Throughout the lockdown my son did not attend, however, we were kept up to date via frequent emails, being sent activity packs with zoom calls set up on a weekly basis. My son has come on leaps and bounds - he often asks to see his favoured members of staff on the weekend! He is so happy and I can’t praise nursery highly enough.
As I say, I feel so incredibly lucky that we found such a great nursery and would highly recommend to anyone thinking about care for their little one.

Current Review Score: 8.0 (8.043)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.0 (8.043) out of 10 for New Cross Nursery & Pre-School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.8 out of 5 from 2 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.3 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.773 for New Cross Nursery & Pre-School is calculated as follows: ( (17 Excellents x 5) + (5 Goods x 4) ) ÷ 22 Ratings = 4.773
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.27 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for New Cross Nursery & Pre-School is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 = 3.125
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 69 number of registered child places is 13.8. 2 Positive Reviews ÷ 13.8 = 0.145
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
