Mama Bear's Day Nursery & Pre-School (Speedwell)

Our 4yo loves mamabears nursery, she has been since she was 1yo. She has made some lovely friends since being there and has got on really well with the nursery staff, she has lots of fun and is well looked after, they always update us with photos.

We are so happy with our mama bear team! Our toddler loves going there and we are very pleased she's having the best start at socialising and making her own friends and memories. They also do so many fun and interesting activities that aim to nurture the kids' curiosity and imagination which we really appreciate! Mama bear's go above and beyond with celebrating key multi-cultural events that really broadens the little ones' horizons and enables them to grow in an inclusive, loving and respectful environment. On top of all of that the nursery has been offering free parent workshops (during which childcare is free so that parents could pop in on their days off) and resources on various topics which have been tremendously insightful and increasingly generous! We are super happy and grateful - would highly recommend mama bear's!!

We love this nursery. They're so flexible and accommodating, and the staff are lovely. My little one has settled in so well that he doesn't even look back now, he just runs straight in!

We also love seeing him taking part in so many different activities. There's always something new and creative going on, and seeing the photos of what he's been up to always makes us smile. It's such a nice feeling knowing he's happy and comfortable there.

We're really happy with Mama Bear Nursery and so glad we chose it. I would definitely recommend it to friends, colleagues and other parents!

My son has had a fantastic preschool experience at Mama Bears which is set him up brilliantly for the transition to primary school in September. The staff there are brilliant and in the time that I have been there there has been very low staff turnover. This has meant that my son has been able to form strong bonds, not just with his keyworkers but with a number of the adults there. I don't think a single session has had to be cancelled this year due to staff sickness/shortage etc and they were very understanding/flexible over heatwave guidance. The kids do a really fun range of activities and he comes home with lots of new knowledge. Nicola and team have transformed the space - it's a really beautiful place to be and the big outdoors space is fantastic for energetic kids. They recently held a beautiful graduation for preschool kids, and it was very clear to see the care the team takes to support the children.

My children both look forward to going to nursery. The staff are great and kind. They devise lots of interesting activities for the children. There is a lovely big garden for the children to play in. I would recommend this nursery.

Mama Bears is a very welcoming nursery that my children enjoy coming to. The staff are all lovely and caring and make such an effort to really know the children. The children do a variety of different stimulating activities which they love. I would recommend this nursery to others.

We couldn't have asked for a better nursery for our daughter. From the very first day, all the staff made her feel safe, happy, and loved. Over the past two years, she has grown so much in confidence, learned so many new skills, and made wonderful friendships.

My son loves going to Mama Bears nursery. He currently attends the baby unit and the staff there are great. He has come a long way since starting at the nursery, they do a great job there and the main mamager responds to queries very quick and efficiently.

My daughter joined Mama Bears in September 2025 as a 10 month old. I was worried about the transition as she had been at a different nursery for August, however they didn't let us use all of our funded hours across three days. Nicola was brilliant and I was impressed with her professionalism and knowledge. The baby unit is a lovely big space, with different areas, so i knew that my daughter wouldn't get bored and although there were some tears for the first couple of weeks, as can be expected, Fran, Millie, Sophie and the rest of the team were always so kind and welcoming that my daughter quickly settled in. She is now one and a half and loves it. She nods excitingly in the morning when I say we have to get ready for nursery. They are also helping us with consistency for her behaviour, as well as paying particular attention to her speech development. We are all very glad we made the move to Mama Bears.

The staff at Mama Bear's Whiteway Road are such a brilliant, friendly and approachable team. They work WITH children and their families. Absolutely love all the celebrations they do too and the effort they put in. There is no other nursery in Bristol that will go to the amount of effort they do for World Book Day etc. The team there are truly kind people who will be honest with you. They all seem to get on as well, which is really nice to see!

Nicola, the manager, has been wonderful from the very beginning ,thoughtful, supportive, and deeply committed to the wellbeing of the children and families. Every key person our daughter has had has been kind, attentive, and genuinely invested in her development. Thanks to them she has built strong friendships and beautiful memories that will stay with her as she moves on to school. Like many nurseries, Mama Bear's has had periods where staffing has been stretched and they've had to navigate challenges beyond their control.
