The carers are great with my child! And he loves going to the nursery! He has come along great since being there and has learned a lot. Truly grateful for him to be there.

Our child (3yo) suffers from severe eczema and a pervasive itch which dominates his life (and to an extent his temperament). Unless you have seen or experienced this condition yourself, it is very difficult to understand the impact and distress this condition causes someone, let alone on a small child
and the developmental obstacles that need to be overcome.
It is a testament to the manager and all her team's understanding, kindness and nurturing attitude toward's their children that has helped our son, not only keep up with standard curriculum development expectations but to excel and thrive personally and with confidence.
Without fail, the team have enthusiastically and tirelessly supported our endless endeavours to help him with the condition, be it with special dietary requests, creams/ointments, gloves, garments, itch management techniques and sequences etc, all while ensuring that his and other's learning and development goals are never compromised or impaired.

We have had an excellent experience at Buoys and Gulls with both our children over the last 6 years. Our son who currently attends the nursery has extreme health issues and we never have any worries about leaving him in the care of the staff there. They have been extremely caring and understanding even
on the most challenging of days with him. Our son enjoys his time there, has made many friends and is being well prepared for the future. The staff are always professional and caring and go out of their way to accommodate us. I would wholeheartedly recommend Buoys and Gulls to anyone who is looking for a friendly, caring setting with staff who are enthusiastic and always put the needs of the individual child at the fore.

I can’t speak highly enough about Buoys and Gulls Nursery. The staff and management are lovely and approachable. My son went in very shy and clingy and now he is content, more confident little boy with lots of friends. I love that they do lots of activities inside and outside. I get a run through when
I pick him up; hows he has been, how he has eaten, what they have been doing etc. which is brilliant. He has also learnt a lot, can count well, recognising numbers and comes home excited to tell me about his day. (And if they had apple crumble, which he tells me is the best!)

Lovely staff and my boy loves going, the only thing is I don’t feel that their online journals are done a lot and sometimes asking my son what he has done and learning.

My son loves the nursery and I can tell he is well cared for whilst there. The staff are friendly and welcoming, he is always doing fun things and I love the fact he’s outdoors most days.
The online reporting is great to see how my son is getting on and assures me he is meeting his milestones.
He
is a whirlwind so hats off to the girls who care for him! They have a tough job to do but do it so well.

My daughter currently attends Buoys and Gulls nursery, she started at the nursery when she was 14 months old and since then her confidence has come on leaps and bounds, she has learned so much from eating with cutlery and to speaking in sentences. All of the staff are so friendly and welcoming and are
happy to help if you have any questions or concerns, all dealt with in a professional manner. My daughter looks forward to her 2 mornings of nursery and speaks highly of the staff! I'm so glad I picked Buoys and Gulls, my son will be attending in the future when he is slightly older, no hesitation at all!

The nursery has a very warm and welcoming feeling as you walk in. The staff are very friendly and very easy to approach. They do lots of things outdoors with the children. All staff also know each child, which makes it more personal and inviting for the child. Looking at the menus the meals look good,
a variety of many things, and I also like that they offer two options and all children are offered a pudding. There seems to be a variety of many activities on offer at one time. Overall an exceptional setting to care for children.

Our daughters settled into nursery very easily which was reassuring us that they are going to the right nursery.

I like that the girls get outside for walks and they have an outdoor space to play in the garden on the nice days for fresh air.

We receive weekly online reviews for our youngest daughter

(age 1 1/2), with photographs which is a nice touch.

The nursery teachers are lovely and are supportive to their needs and when needed would be accommodating if we need to change anything.

The girls eat lunch at nursery twice a week and it’s usually a change of food to what I would cook so it’s nice they get variety.

All in all I would definitely recommend Buoys n Gulls nursery.

My son loves going to the nursery. As soon as he sees the nursery his face lights up and he runs up the path to the door. He has been made to feel very welcome moving up to the three's room and is always happy when I go back to collect him. Staff are always happy to help and will always pass on information
of what he has been doing during his session and how he has behaved.

My daughter has a great time at Buoys and Gulls. We both feel that there's a great variety of things to do and that these are both fun and educational. As a result of this, her number skills have improved significantly recently. There's a good amount of time spent outdoors and reasonable guidelines
for discipline, it's like I would want it to be. All of the staff are great and very helpful from the manager to the chef. It's a great place overall.

Both of my children have been at Buoys and Gulls since they were 1. My daughter has now left but the change in her confidence levels since she started was great to see! My son loves the 3-5 room and loves his time there. I feel like both of my children have made great friends and good connections with
staff. I know that if I have a problem, I can go to most of the staff members there and resolve it. I know my child is well looked after and safe which makes me feel less guilty about leaving him to go to work.

My son has been attending for almost a year, he has settled in well and has a good relationship with all the staff. They all seem to really care about the children.
Communication is great for the online journal and book.

It’s great they go outside when possible and go walks around the village

to explore.
The menu and snacks have a good range and choice which has helped my little one to try new things.

He has come on leaps and bounds with speech and developing lots of skills. Thanks to all staff for doing such a great job, it makes leaving him so much easier knowing he is cared for and having fun.

Our son is happy to go into nursery, we love reading about his day. He gets varied forms of play and gets healthy meals which is important to us. Our son has been there since 2016; initially there wasn't much outdoor play which was disappointing. However as the weather improved he seems to be outside
every day and at a parents evening the nursery advised it is going to be pushing outdoor play in the future which is reassuring. Communication is good; along with the paper journals we get emails and events are posted at the entrance. We used to get monthly newsletters but missed May - this may be to do with change of management.

We look forward to receiving the newsletters and would like the online journals to be set up for the baby room; appreciate they are looking into this. We prefer that photos are posted via online journals as opposed to Facebook. We welcome the fact that the baby garden space is to be renovated. A separate sleeping room for the baby room would be an asset to the nursery.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.625)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.625) out of 10 for Happitots Nursery Boddam is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 11 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.902 for Happitots Nursery Boddam is calculated as follows: ( (121 Excellents x 5) + (9 Goods x 4) + (2 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 132 Ratings = 4.902
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.723 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Happitots Nursery Boddam is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 20 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews, 0.05 Points for the next five Positive Reviews, and finally 0.025 Points for the next ten Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.050, 7th = 0.050, 8th = 0.050, 9th = 0.050, 10th = 0.050, 11th = 0.025, 12th = 0.025, 13th = 0.025, 14th = 0.025, 15th = 0.025, 16th = 0.025, 17th = 0.025, 18th = 0.025, 19th = 0.025, 20th = 0.025) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.05 + 0.025 = 3.775
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 58 number of registered child places is 11.6. 11 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.6 = 0.948
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.
