The nursery's approach to early childhood education is both thoughtful and effective. The activities are designed to stimulate curiosity and creativity while fostering a love for learning. My children always looked forward to their days at nursery, eagerly sharing stories of the fun and enriching experiences they had.
We enjoy the daily updates on the app. They seem to do a nice range of themed activities and I love seeing my daughter bring home new songs and words that she has learnt. We particularly like the amount of outdoor space and time spent outdoors given we're in a city and they eat good healthy food, which is reassuring at this age.
A very clean and well managed, also school food is very good, my son tries lots of different foods.
Communication is very good, letting you know when there are activities also if there are any illnesses going around. Very good nursery, I feel very safe leaving my son.
For our 18 month old son, who has been at this nursery for 6 months, and for us, Chestnut Nursery School @ Chesterton is wonderful. The management, education and care staff teams have been fantastic, attentive, devoted, creative and purposeful. Settling in was really well done and our boy has developed so well through all the activities, guidance and motivation the team provide and he enjoys his time there so very much. In particular, we really value the way much is themed around a new book every two weeks - this allows the staff to be creative in designing activities for early learning development goals, and gives those activities another layer and connection for the children. There is also a clear focus on the child's individual needs and interests and responsiveness to his emerging character and energy levels (which are high!). With daily care updates and reports on his engagement with activities (with photos) via the app, we feel close to our son and genuinely touched by how much the staff team do for our boy, and how well they have got to know him. The nursery is a happy place and every day we collect him, we find a happy boy.
Our child is welcomed with a jolly smile every morning. It's always great to hear the other children giving him a cheery goodbye at pick up time. The key thing for us is that staff appear to focus on looking after the child and developing a relationship with the child, as opposed to solely being focused on pleasing the parents. Kids first approach. We think it's great.
Facilities look clean and tidy.
They are always doing great activities and crafts.
My son made lots of friends thanks to the nursery
Special thanks to 3 staff members in particular.
Chestnut Nursery is great. The staff are kind and attentive and they develop an evident bond with each of the children.
There's been a few examples where the nursery could have done better, from our point of view. But given the turn around with staff and the challenges with recruitment, at least it's been kept open!
Communication could be better sometimes, however some improvements have been made over the last few months.
Our child started the nursery a couple of months ago and has settled very quickly. All the staff, even from different rooms, have quickly built an excellent and warm relationship and we are very pleased with the progress our child is showing. Very useful to get regular overviews of their progress against key early years target. Thank you for all you continue to do!
Our child has been going to the nursery since he was 8 months old. We have been very happy with their development there and how they are looked after there. When picking up my child they are also very happy and seem to have enjoyed themselves greatly.
Preschool have a great variety of activities including cooking and (optional) trips out on nature walks/to the shops. We feel confident about the safety measures on these trips out.
Sometimes classes join together when it's quieter which allows the boys to play together and gives a bit more excitement for the older babies.
Feedback via the app and verbally is good and has improved a lot in recent months. We are told the activities for the next week in advance which is helpful so we can talk about the plan at home.
Staff genuinely care for the children and enjoy being with them. Staff turnover was high but the room leaders are all well established and passionate.
Our child started at nursery when he was one and he is now nearly 2. I am a teacher and have been very impressed with the provision, friendliness of staff and, most importantly, the happiness of my child going in and coming home from nursery. Staff have taken their time to get to know our child well and it is clear they care about him and his developing needs. I am currently pregnant and have already asked to put our name down for a place as we are so happy at Chestnut.
Overall, I am happy with the nursery and would recommend it without a doubt.
My daughter is very happy at the nursery. She was in the baby room and now in the toddler room. There has been a high turnover of staff over the last few months, but everyone seems to keep to more or less the same good quality standard. It is now becoming much more consistent with daily updates recorded on the app and many activities added to the daily and monthly routine. Overall, I am happy with the nursery and would recommend it without a doubt.
Our daughter started nursery at the end of August. The staff in the baby room worked really hard to help her settle in (and go to sleep!). She has formed a lovely bond with her key worker and clearly enjoys her time in nursery. I feel really confident that she is safe and cared for at Chestnut.
We only have good things to say about Chestnut Nursery and the dedicated staff that work there.
Chestnut does a great job, we have sent both our daughters there. They have great facilities and a good core team of staff that care about the children. My daughter enjoys her time there and has formed good relationships with the staff. They provide a great range of play opportunities, especially around messy play and outdoors.
Excellent nursery, staff are very friendly, welcoming and show great care. My daughter has been attending Chestnut Nursery since March 2017 and it took her only a couple of days to settle in. I feel confident leaving her at the nursery knowing she is in good hands. My daughter is so happy to go to nursery and enjoys every day at nursery. They have a range of activities planned for each week which keeps her engaged and entertained. I recommend this nursery to everyone.
Management has been poor since January 2018 but the manager and trainee manager are doing a great job. I hope they won't see another change of management any time soon.
Our most important wish is that our little ones are happy while staying there.
They have settled in very quickly and like their key workers very much.
The latter always take time to report about the children's day.

I have worked in early years settings for 6 years and have worked my way up from Practitioner to Manager here at Chestnut Nursery School Chesterton. I completed my Level 2 childcare qualification at college and then completed my Level 3 qualification here at Chestnut. I enjoy working here as part of a passionate and enthusiastic team, providing care and learning opportunities to the children who attend. I also believe in promoting positive bonds with parents and carers to further support the children in our care and give them the best starts in life. Working together, we aim to promote the health, safety and happiness of all the children who walk through the door.
Hi, my name is Amy and I have been working in the early years settings since 2016. I began my childcare career as an apprentice working here at Chestnut Chesterton where I gained my level 3 qualification and became baby room team leader. Since then I have worked in another setting to professionally progress within my career and gained new skills, becoming the Third in charge manager and leading a preschool. I returned to Chestnut Chesterton in 2025 after having my daughter and have since worked my way up to my current position as Deputy manager. I have a passion for creating nurturing spaces and helping each child achieve their best!
Hi my name is Emily and I am the Baby room leader and the 3rd in charge.
