A stunning location for a welcoming nursery in Hedge End.

Hedge End Day Nursery and Preschool is a spacious yet homely nursery, set in a Grade II listed farmhouse. Located 15 minutes’ walk away from Hedge End train station, the nursery is close to Hedge End Retail Park but still in a residential area.

The nursery has an onsite car park and a covered buggy area. All-inclusive fees mean there is less to pack on a busy morning and the onsite meals are prepared with nutrition in mind. Healthy lunches and snacks as well as chosen branded nappies and wipes are included in the fees.

Every room and feature has been designed to support each child’s development from the age of three months to 5 years. A strong focus on children’s wellbeing is the basis to developing lifelong learners. In the Preschool room especially, the nursery ensures all children have great ownership over their learning, and often carry out votes to encourage confidence and ensure their thoughts are heard. The rooms are thoughtfully laid out with a mixture of imaginative play equipment, creative areas and more to engage children.

Hedge End nursery’s outside space is no different, with an extensive rear garden that boasts an enclosed ‘secret garden’ area with lots of wild play opportunities. This charming wooded area lends itself to bug hunts, den building and natural exploration.

Bright Horizons enriching Ready for School programme gives every child the opportunity to gain the knowledge and confidence to thrive in school and beyond. The setting is language-rich, and the nursery participate in the ECAT (Every Child a Talker) programme to bring the best out of every child.

They are excited to be part of your child’s journey and look forward to meeting you and your little one soon. Book a personal tour with the nursery today.

We are very happy with how our child is progressing with Bright Horizons Hedge End. The team are fantastic with supporting our child especially with ensuring his safeguarding due to having allergies.
The team are tenured which really helps build our child’s trust and confidence, which in return assists
with his learning and development.

Our son has been attending in Babies Room for 6 months now. He is our first baby so we weren't sure what to expect but the staff were excellent guiding us through the process and making sure we were comfortable and happy with lots of settling in days. The nursery use an app which is consistently updated
throughout the day with eating, sleeping, activities and nappy changing information which is really reassuring to check during the day and I feel he is really safe and cared for. I feel the nursery have great safeguarding standards and management are always quick to update parents via the app when needed. The children's food is prepared fresh on site so he always has a variety of healthy things to eat during the day and they take them outside to play as much as possible so they get lots of fresh air and exercise. My son's confidence and social skills have gone from strength to strength since starting and we are looking forward to the next exciting phase moving up to Toddlers Room!

Our (now eldest) daughter has been going here for 2 and a half years now and not only absolutely loves it, thrives, grows and learns so much there but the staff were also incredibly supportive. When I fell pregnant with twins and my daughter struggled with the transition. They read ‘I’m going to be
a big sister' books and encouraged playing with dolly’s and babies to get her used to it before they arrived and also transitioned her to new development stages within the nursery at times that would sit well with my due date so as not to overwhelm her with too many changes at once. I cannot recommend this nursery enough, all three of our children love their time there and the staff are outstanding.

Both of our children have attended this Nursery and really enjoyed it. The staff are lovely and really help make a great day for the little ones. The new app is a great feature too as it's a lot more user-friendly than the old Tapestry app.

Very happy and pleased with Bright Horizons Hedge End. My daughter has thrived at the nursery. Staff are always friendly and it’s great to see what she’s doing through tapestry. Love that she’s taken out for walks around the local area and that she is able to spend lots of time in the garden which is
her favourite activity.

All staff at the nursery are friendly, polite, kind caring individuals who act professionally at all times. Safeguarding children within their care in accordance to Bright Horizons safeguarding policy. What I find most fascinating is that these standards have been upheld and maintained throughout the
current pandemic, which explicitly shows their commitment and enthusiasm to care for each child from babies to kindergarten safely who are in their care. Staff have been thorough in their stringent infection control policy and practice hand hygiene; not only with the children; but with parents too, as hand sanitizer is always at the entrance door. After a discussion with the manager, I was very reassured to hear that one of the nursery's ethos during these perilous times is to 'Be Kind' this is something that we all need to practice as we face this together as a community. On a final note, thank you for taking the time to make the gingerbread tree decorations and Christmas card photo!

The return to nursery following national lockdown was an anxious time for everyone, and like most children my son had been away from the setting for almost 4 months. I was concerned how he was going to be, not only going back, moving up into the next room but also going into a room when he only knew
one of the keyworkers from his old room. However my worries were quickly eased, he wondered in after a bit of a wobble at the door and was greeted with open arms and a reassuring hug. He had a wonderful day and has continued to do so ever since. Joining the nursery was the best thing for our son and has come on leaps and bounds in his development. All the staff are warm and friendly and the children, my son included, loves them.

I have nothing but hugely positive things to say about Yellow Dot nursery, Hedge end. The nursery manager and her team go over and above for my daughter's care, learning and development and communication.
The team are hugely professional but are also able to make my daughter feel happy, safe and
comfortable in all of their presences.
Photos are always uploaded with clear notes and learning triggers every week without fail, and the activities the team carry out with the children are wonderful!
I know my daughter is well cared for, constantly learning and developing and generally very happy when she is with the Yellow Dot team.
I cannot recommend them enough! I am very thankful for everything they do for my daughter.

All of the staff always greet us with a smile and warm welcome. They each make a big effort to get to know each child and family. They are genuinely interested in and care for the children. It’s much appreciated for a busy parent that they are skilled at noticing what each child needs to feel comfortable
when parents are leaving. They respond quickly and sensitively and even follow up with calls to let us know our children are ok if they have been upset when we left them. They give open and honest feedback and staff are always willing to listen to our views and respond by adapting to the feedback.

Both my children have gone to Yellow Dot Hedge End and we couldn't be happier with the staff and facilities. We can genuinely see the passion and enthusiasm of the staff, especially our son's key worker who is warm, friendly and always happy to help. Our son is starting to show development which we
feel is a direct influence of his time here, so a very big thank you for making his days here so fun and special. Any issues we have had, have been dealt with quickly and with ease. I would recommend Yellow Dot (and have) to other parents looking for a nursery.

They have helped us so much, especially during our potty training challenges, offering advice and guidance always. He has grown in confidence and enjoys all activities here,
especially garden fun. Thank you for all you do for us.

Current Review Score: 9.6 (9.578)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 9.6 (9.578) out of 10 for Bright Horizons Hedge End Day Nursery and Preschool is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.9 out of 5 from 9 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.889 for Bright Horizons Hedge End Day Nursery and Preschool is calculated as follows: ( (97 Excellents x 5) + (10 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) ) ÷ 108 Ratings = 4.889
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 4.689 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Bright Horizons Hedge End Day Nursery and Preschool is based on 9 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 + 0.1 = 3.9
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 57 number of registered child places is 11.4. 9 Positive Reviews ÷ 11.4 = 0.789
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Welcome to Hedge End Bright Horizons, we are in a converted farmhouse, near Dowds Farm with the play park and Duck Pond at the end of the road.

I spent 11 years working in the term-time preschool charity sector in Southampton before coming into Bright Horizons nurseries. I think that our Bright Beginnings curriculum: cooking, gardening, yoga, mindfulness and Boogie mites is fantastic for children’s development.

Having my own children was the catalyst for me to work in childcare. I love being around the noise, laughter and singing of children, their interesting conversations, helping them and watching them grow and develop into young people with their individual personalities.

I completed my level 3 before embarking on a Foundation degree at Southampton University followed by a Degree in Education and Training from Portsmouth university.

In my personal time I am passionate about open water swimming, running, fitness and helping others with their anxiety and wellbeing but spend most of my time with my family and puppy having adventures in our camper van.

Job Title: Deputy Manager

Hi my name is Danielle, I have worked in childcare for 13 years, I am level 3 qualified in childcare and development and level 4 qualified in management, I have experienced many different roles throughout my childcare career including working my way up from practitioner to preschool manager before moving onto my role here at nursery as Deputy Manager. I have a great passion for giving children the best start in life and believe we can really make a difference in their first experiences through play. I have also been SENCO for a number of years and this is also a role I take great pride in within the nursery, I feel strongly that every child should be celebrated for their individuality and I thrive to succeed in getting children the support they need.
