Reviews

7.7 Edgbaston Nursery School has a Review Score of 7.7 (7.731)

The Review Score of 7.7 (maximum of 10) for Edgbaston Nursery School is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  • a) The Average Rating is 4.4 out of 5 from 4 Reviews over all time. This Average Rating is also the rating value for Edgbaston Nursery School in Google's Search Results - more info

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.4 out of 5 from 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.375 for Edgbaston Nursery School is calculated as follows: ( (36 Excellents x 5) + (6 Satisfactorys x 3) + (6 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 48 Ratings = 4.375

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Day Nursery to friends and family?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 3.356 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Edgbaston Nursery School is based on 2 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 = 3.25

    2. Target of 18.8 positive Reviews (94 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 2 Reviews ÷ 18.8 Target = 0.106

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Reviewer Connection to Edgbaston Nursery School

Both of my children have been attending the preschool at Edgbaston Nursery School since February 2017 and I wish I had moved them to this nursery months ago. The setting provides an excellent service, my children love being there and have thrived in a very short time. The food and facilities are fantastic and the staff have really gotten to know my children and are accommodating them very well. The daily text messages are informative and the new phone/tablet app allows me to review how my children are doing against the EYFS at any time.

Prior to attending this nursery, I read a review stating the nursery is just about fees and unfortunately, this is very much the case. The nursery atmosphere is unwelcoming and after a while, my child was unhappy at this nursery. Ending the placement was the best thing for my child now he thrives and is very happy in his new setting.

Steve Lee, Finance Director at Edgbaston Nursery School responded to this review on 26 Apr 2017:

We totally refute the claims made by this Parent. Any concerns regarding behavioural issues (children or staff) are always dealt with as a matter of urgency. In fact when the Parent raised a concern about the child not bonding with the key person, the Head of Room & Nursery Manager investigated the matter, discussed with the key person and presented the Parent with a collage of the child and the key person enjoying daily activities and positive/warm interaction which the parent had not witnessed. Two other issues were raised by the Parent and were investigated and resolved immediately. An issue regarding 15 hours funding arose when the Parent served notice during the term thinking that the funding was transferrable between nurseries whenever the Parent wished. After consultation with the NEF Team at Birmingham City Council they advised us that funds are only transferred mid term from nursery to nursery in unusual circumstances and in this case the funds could not be transferred. We informed the Parent of this and offered to keep the child's funded hours place open with us for the rest of the term. We have received many testimonials from our Parents thanking our staff for the warm and caring environment that their children experience in our nursery. Regarding payment of fees, the Parent was consistently late with payments, this was the reason why we had to raise concerns over non-payment of fees, which we feel is reasonable.

Staff have taken excellent care of both my children (12 months old to pre-school) and I cannot recommend the nursery highly enough. What is particularly important to me has been the care/affection shown to the children, alongside the fun and range of activities that take place. There are regular communications with parents, and it feels like the staff really know the personalities of the individual child. I am confident in the standard of care particularly with health needs related to asthma, and the nursery has been outstanding in the way staff have provided care to my baby with Developmental Hip Dysplasia - needing a hip spica cast for 4 months. This could have been a particularly challenging time but the support from the nursery has been top class. Staff put in place specific protocols and training etc to ensure that she stayed comfortable and safe. Even though she is delayed walking, they are tailoring her learning opportunities and social interactions to suit her overall development.

I struggled to find a nursery that my husband and I were happy with when returning to work post maternity leave. Edgbaston Nursery School made that transition so easy and really made our daughter feel welcomed, nurtured and engaged with every time she attended. She began attending one day a week in baby room and has progressed through the various rooms and now attends 3 days a week. Staff are excellent and really want to see her flourish and expand her knowledge and skills which will set her up for the future. Food is excellent and Husband normally comments that he wishes they did a take away menu so he could have one of their lunches whilst hes at work!!! Any queries or concerns we may have are answered immediately. Daily text messages make my day as I get an insight into what they've been doing today and staff give a very comprehensive review of the days activities when we collect. Overall an excellent, welcoming and caring nursery that helps children grow into great adults.
