The Elsie Inglis nursery in Abbeyhill offers a warm and welcoming environment, designed to support your child’s development from the age of 3 months to 5 years.

The friendly, experienced and highly qualified staff support your child’s transition from home to nursery, and the team pride there selves on providing a safe, exciting and enjoyable nursery where children can thrive.

Baby and toddler rooms are vibrant and enriching, with a sensory room and play resources to spark the imagination. With the well-equipped, age-appropriate gardens, children can extend their play and learning outside.

The unique Growing Enhancement programme aimed at preschoolers encourages children’s natural curiosity to learn. The focus is on reading, writing and mathematics, alongside vocational subjects such as art and cooking, giving every child the opportunity to gain the knowledge and confidence to thrive in school and beyond.

At Elsie Inglis, the team provide excellent nutritionally-balanced menus using fresh ingredients prepared by the nursery's chef. There is a monthly breakfast club for parents to join their child for breakfast and the children enjoy baking classes with the chef, where they learn how to follow instructions and direction, and use counting, measuring, problem-solving, and creativity.

Our child has been attending Elsie Ignis since they were just 9 months old, and we couldn't be happier with the experience. The support we've received has been wonderful from the very beginning. The staff and teachers are kind, nurturing, and genuinely care about each child's development and well-being.
We've
also been really impressed with how well the nursery embraces diversity and inclusion. As a family from a different cultural background, we've always felt welcomed and respected. The teachers make a real effort to include and celebrate different cultures, which helps every child feel valued and at home.
Another thing that stands out is their commitment to continuous improvement. The nursery is always evolving and looking for ways to enhance the learning experience, and it shows in the engaging activities and positive atmosphere.
Overall, it's a warm, caring, and inclusive environment where children can learn, grow, and thrive.

All the staff members were friendly and caring. We were just temporary for 2.5 months and my son had a great time here. Communicate was good so we felt confident leaving our child with them. We had a great experience and will highly recommend this nursery.

Elsie Inglis is an excellent nursery, the staff are absolutely brilliant and consistent. My child was very shy but with the support from the teachers, was able to overcome their fears and make lots of friends. For a nursery being so close to the city centre it is very easy to access. The staff are so
friendly and extremely informative - they always provide lots of feedback. The management are very responsive and very helpful. A unique part of Elsie Inglis is their weekly visits to the care home which provides both the children and elderly residents a different perspective and of course lots of fun. The chef is absolutely brilliant and engages with the children and parents which I think is very important.
I cant thank Elsie's staff and management enough for their continuous support and commitment. Highly Recommend.

My daughter had a wonderful experience at Elsie Inglis during her year and a half in the preschool room. All the staff were absolutely fantastic. Very attentive, friendly and fun! My daughter built great bonds with many of them.
She really enjoyed all the educational activities. We could see this contributing
towards her development in preparation for school. The nursery spent a great deal of time and care communicating what she was learning with written reports and pictures.
Ultimately she was very excited to go in every week and we knew she was being well cared for. Definitely recommend Elsie Inglis as a great nursery.

Amazing nursery. My kid goes to the nursery from when she was 3 and shes starting P1 this august.

Strong management team. Staff care about the children and go the extra mile both inside and outside the nursery. In particular what impresses me is that the staff from the other rooms know our sons name even though they do not interact with him on a daily basis. Our son is happy and loves going to nursery.
Completely trust the staff, our son is in safe hands. A good variety of activities at nursery to help stimulate his growth and development as well as stimulate him.

We couldn't be happier with the first few months our son has had at Elsie Inglis in the baby room. The staff have been wonderful to both him and us during his settling in period. We have been delighted at how quickly he has felt comfortable there and how much he enjoys his days at nursery. That is thanks
to the kindness of the staff, the engaging activities and the food (special mention to the chef!). We love the detailed + personalised updates we receive about our son's days at pick up and through the app. Thank you to everyone and especially his fantastic key worker who our son gives a huge smile to each morning.

My son started in the baby room a few months ago and we've had a very positive experience so far. The staff have been friendly, supportive and attentive, which made the transition to nursery much easier for both my son and me.
The settling-in process was well-organised and the team was always happy
to answer any questions I had. Since starting, my son has settled in well and it's clear he enjoys his time there. I also appreciate the weekly updates with photos, which give me a sense of what he's been up to and how he's developing.
The baby room staff have been caring and approachable and I feel reassured knowing that my son is in good hands. He's happy, engaged and thriving in the nursery environment with so many different activities.
Overall, I'm very pleased with Bright Horizons Elsie Inglis Early Learning and Childcare and would recommend it to other parents looking for a nurturing and welcoming place for their children.

So far we have been very happy with this nursery. We have been very impressed by the nursery manager and her team, and we especially love the staff in the preschool room that our son attends who consistently come up with new and interesting activities. The settling-in sessions were easy-going and well-managed,
and our son's dietary requirements were taken seriously by everyone which was a big relief for us. We are also extremely happy with the on-site kitchen and chef's meal plan. There are plans to spruce up the outside area somewhat, which would be great. Otherwise, we have only positive things to say about this nursery and would not hesitate to recommend it to others.

We are delighted with Bright Horizons Elsie and our son appears to love going (he's currently in the baby room). Staff make an effort to keep us informed of the activities and we appreciate the added extras like the Christmas parties and the open days. The food sounds great and I love that it's cooked
onsite. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this nursery to other parents. The only negatives are the limited outdoor space which they can't do much about, and the price seems to be a bit more expensive than others we've researched, but a few pounds extra is fine in light of the good care provided and the convenient location.

Over the past few years, we have witnessed and experienced the nursery staff invest a huge amount of effort and energy into improving the experience of the children, the rooms and their communication with parents. This has made a vast difference to the support they offer our children and our experience
as parents. The staff know our children very well and are attentive to their needs, learning and overall development. The communication between the nursery and ourselves has been greatly improved with weekly updates, information and learning updates via the app, and day-to-day conversations with the staff. We are very happy to know our children spend their time enjoying themselves, exploring new activities, and being cared for so well.

Our son has had a great experience within the toddler room at Bright Horizons, Elsie Inglis. At the start of the year, he transferred from another nursery where he was happily settled but which closed quite quickly. The staff at Elsie's have been superb in helping him become settled in the new environment
there. The staff in his room and the other staff across the building all appear to be very skilled and genuinely passionate about caring for the children, and the communication about what is happening each day is really good. Within the nursery the facilities both inside and outside are good and the range of activities that the children get offered daily is great and suits the different interests of the kids. There have been really nice additional features like themes of the week/month, lots of chances to enjoy live music played by the staff, and the chance for the children to go on local outings. We have been really happy to send our child to this nursery.

Karen

Job Title: Nursery Manager

Since 2022, Karen has been the Nursery Manager at Bright Horizons Elsie Inglis, bringing with her a strong background in early years leadership, having previously worked as both Nursery Manager and Area Manager across a small group of Edinburgh nurseries.


She is deeply passionate about delivering high-quality childcare and takes great pride in supporting the talented team at Elsie Inglis to create meaningful and joyful experiences for children every day.


Her journey into early years education began after a career in banking and the birth of her son, which inspired her to follow her true passion. Since then, she has embraced lifelong learning, completing an HNC in Childcare, a BA in Childhood Practice, and a postgraduate qualification.


She is certified in paediatric first aid, child protection, DSL, and Additional Support for Learning (ASL), and has undertaken a range of management development programmes. In addition, she is proud to serve as a connector for one of Bright Horizons’ Bright Spaces in Scotland, extending vital support to families in need.

She is paediatric first aid trained, serves as the designated safeguarding lead for the nursery, and is also a connector for one of Bright Horizons’ Bright Spaces.


Throughout her career, she has worked with children of all ages, progressing from nursery practitioner to room leader and deputy manager. She particularly enjoys helping the youngest children settle into nursery life—building strong bonds and watching their unique personalities shine.


Outside of work, she enjoys walking her dog and spending quality time with family and friends.

Job Title: Third in Charge

Elisa is the nursery's Third in Charge. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Primary Education with a focus on Physical Education and has enjoyed working with children from 0 to 12 years old in both Early Years and Primary settings.


For almost three years, she has been a valued member of the Bright Horizons team. She began her journey as an Early Years Teacher, progressed to Room Leader in the preschool room, and now serves as the Third in Charge. Teaching is her passion! Elisa loves creating fun and engaging learning experiences and monitoring children's progress to help them achieve their best.


In her free time, she is a sports enthusiast and plays handball for the Edinburgh Handball Team. She also enjoys taking her campervan on trips to the stunning Scottish Highlands, where she loves hiking and soaking in the beauty of nature.
