My family is extremely happy with the Big Bird Nursery. The staff is really professional and doing everything it takes to meet all of the child's needs. My daughter has food allergies and I know that I don’t have to worry about her when she is there because they are really careful about what children
bring to the nursery and what kind of food is being served to children. My daughter always looks forward to going there because they do a lot of fun activities.

My child has been at the nursery for over two years andI would highly recommend to anyone. It has a very warm caring atmosphere and all staff are knowledgeable and friendly. They have supported him in transferring from room to room as well as changes in home life (new house and baby). Any time we have
looked for support, help or advice the staff have been ready and willing to do what they could and I can't get over how much it has helped my son's confidence. What I love most, however, is that even though all the staff work in a particular room and even when my son was in the baby room, all the staff knew his name, so if we met someone that I had never even seen before they knew him and would be saying "bye", Seems like such a warm place.

I cannot thank the staff enough for aiding in such a smooth transition for our daughter moving from the baby room to the toddler room. This move to the 'big girls' room was met with trepidation from us parents, however, any worries were soon alieved. The staff that had been looking after our baby continued
to pop in and ensure she was settling in (and to get cuddles) and the staff in the toddler room have made her feel so welcome and like part of the gang since day one. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

My son attends this nursery and thoroughly enjoys all his time spent here, as he tells me quite often how much he loves nursery. He settled in very quickly and I think this is down to all the staff as the one's I have spoken to have been very friendly, caring and professional and are so interested in
the learning and development of my child. I feel very comfortable and confident leaving my child in their care. I would highly recommend this nursery as it has excellent child care, and learning facilities for my child. Well done Big Bird.

Both my sons go to the Big Bird Nursery. The staff are fantastic and very helpful. My eldest is in pre-school ad earlier this year he was at a special speech therapy course for one hour a day. Staff were keen to find out how he got on and if there was anything they could do to help him. I also find
the manager very helpful and approachable. I would not hesitate to recommend the nursery.
I also love the fact they now have the club when my son goes he will be able to be with the staff that he knows.

We have two children in Big Bird Nursery and they very much enjoy going. The staff are friendly, informed and involved in the education and care of the children that they look after. The nursery offers a range of activities throughout the day to the children under their care. They have good facilities,
and the team are very approachable. I am very happy with our choice. It is a big plus to me that the nursery is open from 7 am, allowing for an early drop-off. Would fully recommend Big Bird.

Current Review Score: 8.4 (8.422)

Overview of Review Score

The Review Score of 8.4 (8.422) out of 10 for Big Bird Nursery is based on a) the Average Rating and b) the number of positive Reviews.

  1. The Average Rating is 4.6 out of 5 from 6 Reviews in the last 24 months.
  2. The score for the number of positive Reviews is 3.8 out of 5 from 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months.

Detailed Breakdown of Review Score

The maximum Review Score for a Day Nursery is 10, which is made up from the Average Rating of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) and the Number of Reviews (maximum of 5 points) in the last 24 months:

  1. 5 Points are available for the Average Rating from all Reviews in the last 24 months. The Average Rating of 4.606 for Big Bird Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (52 Excellents x 5) + (12 Goods x 4) + (5 Satisfactorys x 3) + (2 Poors x 2) ) ÷ 71 Ratings = 4.606
  2. 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 24 months. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with an 'Overall Experience' of '4' or '5' (out of a max rating '5'). The 3.816 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Big Bird Nursery is based on 5 positive Reviews in the last 24 months and is calculated as per below:

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 10 Positive Reviews in the last 24 months; 3 points for the first Positive Review, and then 0.125 Points for each of the next four Positive Reviews and then 0.1 Points for the next five Positive Reviews. (1st = 3.000, 2nd = 0.125, 3rd = 0.125, 4th = 0.125, 5th = 0.125, 6th = 0.100, 7th = 0.100, 8th = 0.100, 9th = 0.100, 10th = 0.100) 3 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 + 0.125 = 3.5
    2. 1 point is available for the number of Positive Reviews reaching 20% of the number of registered child places in the last 24 months. If this number is partially reached, then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery registered for a maximum of 50 child places has to reach 10 Positive Reviews to receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews it will receive 0.7 points. 20% of the 79 number of registered child places is 15.8. 5 Positive Reviews ÷ 15.8 = 0.316
  3. When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.
  4. If a Day Nursery does not have a review in the last 24 months, then it will not have a Review Score.

Meet Laura – Nursery Manager (Maternity Cover)

Hello, my name is Laura, and I am both delighted and excited to be stepping into the role of Nursery Manager over the next year as maternity cover. I’ve been part of the Big Bird family for the past 14 years, having begun my journey in 2011 as an apprentice nursery practitioner.

Since then, I’ve had the privilege of progressing through a variety of senior roles, including Senior Practitioner, Head of Room, and Deputy Manager. Throughout my career, my passion has remained the same – to help create safe, secure, and nurturing environments where children can thrive and learn through rich, meaningful play experiences. This ethos is something I’m proud to share with the wider Big Bird Nursery team.

Outside of nursery life, I love spending quality time with my partner, daughter, and our family dog. We especially enjoy getting outdoors together and making the most of nature.

I’m really looking forward to working with our current families, welcoming new ones, and continuing my journey here at Big Bird Nursery.

I have over 10 years of experience within the Early Education and Childcare sector, with most of that experience being in a leadership role.

I completed my HNC and HND in Early Education and Childcare at West Lothian College and then continued my studies at the University of the Highlands and Islands in 2017, where I gained my BA in Childhood Practice.

I am passionate about offering children engaging experiences both indoors and outdoors, creating an enriching natural environment where children have the freedom to learn through exploration and investigation- developing creativity and curiosity. I also believe in creating environments for all children where their individual needs and qualities are valued and respected.

I am beginning a new and exciting journey at Big Bird Nursery after spending 10 wonderful months with my daughter Evie, who will start in the Ladybird room. After spending some time with the staff at Big Bird I can already tell they share the same commitment to childcare as me and I am really excited to support them and the nursery.
