Situated in Chilton Moor, Houghton-le-Spring, Chilton Meadows Day Nursery is an award winning, family run children's nursery offering a caring and happy learning environment.

Established in 2001, the experienced and qualified team of Early Years Practitioners at Chilton Meadows Day Nursery place children at the centre of provision and pride themselves on providing flexible childcare for children aged from 0 to 5 years old.

Rated Good in all areas by Ofsted in November 2022, Ofsted inspectors reported that “Children are happy and thrive at Chilton Meadows Day Nursery where staff treat children as part of the family.” and “Staff are very caring and attentive. Parents speak highly of the caring and nurturing staff and they value the support and advice that they receive.”

A well-resourced open plan interior is complemented by a large secure outdoor areas and spacious gardens. There is a large car park onsite to enable children to be safely dropped off and collected from the nursery.

Offering a rich learning environment for each child as they grow and develop whilst focusing equally on all areas of learning, the team of qualified Early Years Practitioners have established a setting designed to support each individual child’s development.

  • They have a large free car park to support quick and safe drop off and collection for busy Parents and Carers. The car park is secure and fenced off to provide extra safety. There is a strict 5 MPH speed limit to keep the little ones safe.

It is an amazing nursery in which both my children have the pleasure to be a part of.
All staff are excellent, positive and caring and both kids have always been very happy. The management is very accomodating and flexible. Thank you for all your hard work.

The staff at Chilton Meadows have been amazing from the first settling in visit. Not only did they make my son feel settled they reassured me too.
His speech and knowledge have come on so much since he started. You are kept up to date on what they have done daily and I would highly recommend the nursery

Our granddaughter has enjoyed her time at nursery, she looks forward to coming and we sometimes have to really persuade her that it is time for home. She loves her little friends and her teachers. The staff are always pleasant and attentive, nothing seems to be too much trouble.

After only 2 months of my daughter starting nursery, we have seen a huge difference with her. She has improved in all areas.
We are very happy and content with how my daughter has settled.
We always get a warm welcome when entering the nursery. All the ladies go through what my daughter has been up

My daughter has attended Chilton Meadows Nursery since she was 9 months old. She has developed so much during her time here. She socialises really well, can count, knows her shapes and has a great imagination. All staff are fabulous and have helped her through her journey here. She loves coming to nursery

I am Paediatric First Aid trained and I have experience in safeguarding children's welfare. My current role involves supporting the team, parents and carers to enable them to support the children to be happy, critical thinkers and reach their full protentional.


In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my family, cooking and upcycling furniture.

Hello, my name is David. I am a Nursery Director at Chilton Meadows Day Nursery. I am a qualified teacher and I also have a degree in Leadership and Management which I utilise to support the team of Managers at Chilton Meadows Day Nursery.


Experienced and qualified in Early Years Education, I also support the curriculum and ensure that the welfare requirements are adhered to at all times. I am a member of the Sunderland Schools Forum and represent the Private Voluntary and Independent sectors in the Early Years. I am also a Governor at a local primary school. I am able to use these links to support transitions for the children as they progress from nursery to key stage one.


In my free time, I enjoy DIY and travelling to new places and to Dublin to visit my family. I also enjoy volunteering at our local community group and spending time with my family.

I also lead the curriculum with the support of colleagues David and Joanne.


I am a very calm and friendly individual who takes time to get to know the individual needs of every child that I care for. I encourage children to learn naturally whilst also preparing the children for the transition to key stage one. I pride myself on my creativity and ensuring that all activities are both fun and educational.


I have children of my own and we love exploring the outdoors as a family. I also enjoy reading.

I am a member of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM), I have over 20 years of experience working within Marketing and PR agencies and in-house for clients in a variety of sectors.


I have a love of writing and I am passionate about innovation, making a difference, and positive outcomes for all children.


Outside of work I love to combine my passions for education, writing, local history, photography and digital marketing. I love photography, reading and travelling to new places. Best of all I love being a Mammy to my two children, Liam and Eirinn, they loved spending time at Chilton Meadows Day Nursery when they were little.
