Portland House is an Ofsted Outstanding setting (July 2023) situated at the edge of Lindley and has strong links with the local community and schools.

The nursery has bright, spacious rooms that are highly resourced and are led by highly qualified and experienced practitioners.

The outside areas are imaginatively designed with nature trails and a tree house, providing fun and challenges for all age groups.

A home-cooked menu and plenty of outdoor play ensures each child will develop both a healthy body and a healthy mind.

Fabulous childcare setting with solid values to ensure children are given a good environment to thrive. Love that there is great food and a focus on getting outdoors. Lovely friendly staff who are happy to help.

All three of my children have attended Portland House Nursery and the standard of care has never been less than excellent. My children have enjoyed their time at nursery with the range of activities on offer. Staff provide children with the best start in life in terms of their education and the toddler
room sets them up perfectly for reception class.

My daughter started at Portland House during the pandemic so settling in was a concern. She did fantastically well and I think the move was a great opportunity as she is so happy here. She is always excited to go on a morning and loves all the staff. She shows advances in her development on a weekly
basis and always comes home bursting to tell me about her day. The staff are wonderful, they inform us of any concerns and highlights appropriately and always listen. I would highly recommend this nursery.

We feel really lucky to have found Portland House. Our eldest has been going for more than two years and has done wonderfully well there. Communication from nursery about his progress has always been good and he's come on so much since he started. As you'd expect, to be honest, in two years, but still.
It feels like Portland House have played their part in helping him be the wonderful little boy he is today. He loves going there, feels comfortable with the people who look after him and has a group of friends who he really loves playing with. Our youngest has started within the last few weeks and has had a slightly bumpy start, with a few days off poorly setting him back slightly with settling in but the staff have been really fantastic with him. He's doing a little better every day. Communication from nursery has been fantastic throughout and it feels like he's really well cared for there.

The nursery has low turnover of staff so you get continuity. They have good facilities, especially the garden and clear and fair procedures. My child has developed educationally, socially and has always been happy to go to nursery.

Portland house nursery has just been amazing and the care they have given my children has been second to none, they have excellent provision across all areas of the nursery.
They have great knowledge of children with additional needs and have provided such love, care and devotion to my son and provided
resources he has needed to grow and develop.
The staff are brilliant at providing a wide range of activities to expand my children’s interests, they have a vast knowledge of EYFS, and how to move them on to the next steps.
My children have made great relationships within the bluebells room both with children and staff and they have encouraged them to gain safe, secure and inclusive relationships.
They have treated my children as individuals, shown them respect, and let them create, explore, grow, understand the world and environment.
Exceptional nursery and would highly recommend to anyone.

The nursery has become a safe and joyful place for our daughter; you have put a great effort to support our daughter - she took a while to settle into the new routine but the staff were always patient with her and did everything they could to make her comfortable and happy. The staff are excellent,
genuinely caring and friendly with kids and parents. We had an excellent experience - we'd recommend this nursery to all.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Portland House Nursery (and do so to anyone looking for a nursery place). I am just coming to the end of our time there with my two daughters (2011-2014 and 2015-2018). Both of my children have been so well cared for in each phase of baby, toddler and preschool room.
The staff are all really approachable and I feel have really got to know my children during their time there. The nursery is always calm and has a pleasant feel to it. I'm confident when I drop my daughter off that she will have a great day playing outside, learning, eating healthy food and getting really messy (which she loves) with adults who have a genuine love for children. I'll be really sorry to say goodbye.

Although I had worked with children previously I was still nervous about leaving my little girl. I didn't need to worry, the staff at Portland House, especially in the baby room, have been absolutely fantastic with both of us - settling her and reassuring me!


It amazes me how much I see nursery has

benefited her, she loves it and is all smiles when I drop her off in the morning and when I collect her at the end of the day. I know how happy she is there throughout the day which makes me happier leaving her.


Thank you to all the staff at Portland House, especially Buttercups for looking after my little girl so well.

My daughter is now two and a half and has been at Portland House since she was 10 months. The staff are great and as a first-time mum, they have made me feel comfortable with leaving my daughter. I feel assured that she is safe, secure and happy while she’s there. She is such a chatty, confident independent
little girl and Portland House have played a part in that. She learns through play and always comes home talking about nursery and what she’s done.
The feedback you get from staff is great and the events they hold to include parents such as stay and plays are great for both my daughter and me to feel part of the nursery.
My daughter has special dietary requirements which initially I was worried about, but I didn’t need to be. The cook ensures she has just as fabulous menus as everyone else and she is always supervised at meal times.
I cannot recommend Portland House enough. Definitely made the right choice for my daughter here.

We have our second child currently going through at Portland House.
Our daughter went through 2014 to 2017 and we were really impressed by the care, attention to detail and the level of learning and confidence she has gained. It has been noted by the school she now attends, that they often are able
to identify those children that have been to a Portland Nursery.
I would highly recommend Portland House, not just the level of care and learning, but for the "personal" relationship between the children, parents and nursery.
All practitioners will endeavour to get as much out of the relationship with our children as they do out of us as parents. It feels more personable when we are able to relate our experiences with theirs. It almost feels like they are the same team as us parents.
Portland have helped us immensely with specific things we can do to help learning and creativity in our children. Often we feel nursery is a high cost burden but this is worth every single penny.

Portland House Nursery is excellent. Before he started going to nursery, my baby was exclusively breastfed and would only nap on the move! He also was never babysat by anyone - always looked after by me and his dad only. We were terribly worried he wouldn't settle easily but he surprised us both, thanks
to the skill, experience and kindness of the staff. Now he naps easily, eats loads and looks like he just wants to keep playing when I go to collect him. I can tell that he loves his keyworker and all of the staff in the baby room. I would recommend this nursery to anyone.

Job Title: Nursery Manager & Senior Manage of Portland Nurseries Joined: 1995

I am the Manager of Portland House and have worked for the Portland Nurseries group for 26 years. I joined the Portland House team in July 1995 as the senior of the baby room which I led for 6 years before taking on the role as Manager.


I have always worked in childcare and gained my NNEB at Percival Whitely College. In 2007 I began my journey into further education graduating with a BA (Hons) in Childcare Management followed by my Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) whilst continuing to work full time managing the nursery.


I have a vast wealth of experience, knowledge and understanding of the Early Years Sector and have led Portland House with my team to achieve three consecutive Ofsted Outstanding. The only nursery in Kirklees and Calderdale to do so. An achievement I am extremely proud of. As one of the senior managers in the Portland Nurseries group I support, train and lead staff and managers across the 4 sites.


I love spending precious time with my family and friends. I have two children Harrison and Elise who both went to Portland House as young children. My daughter now works alongside me at the nursery as an early years educator. I absolutely love being creative & crafty. I love cooking, walking and also Zumba.
