Children 1st Sheffield Nursery School is located within easy reach of Sheffield city centre. It has been refurbished to offer a bright and spacious learning environment for children aged from birth to five years.

A dedicated and enthusiastic team of early years staff are fully trained and experienced to support the children's healthy growth and development. The nursery has high staff-to-child ratios to ensure each child receives high-quality care.

The age-appropriate rooms have 'free-flow' access to a spacious outdoor garden which has designed to maximise the potential for outdoor play in all weather conditions.

The nursery also provides plenty of extra learning opportunities including Funky Feet dance classes for children aged between two and five years and a sports skills class with Sheffield Wednesday community coaches.

Children 1st Sheffield also operates an 'out of school' club for children up to twelve years of age and offers fully grant funded places for children aged three and four years.

Really bad nursery for kids who need SEND support! They withheld SEND support and suggested going elsewhere as they didn’t want to spend the money.
My health visitor called and got the same response so as a result she advised me to take my kid out immediately which I did!
My kids were always dirty
and during pickup, I would see staff chatting amongst themselves whilst kids were crying for attention.

I sent my daughter to Children's 1st just after her first birthday and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Each key worker formed a lovely bond with my daughter and made her settling into each room over the years so much easier. The nursery is spotless and each member of staff are welcoming
and genuinely care. The outdoor facilities are great and the children have so much space to thrive. Communication is fantastic, both online and in person. I had previously sent my older son to a different nursery and the comparison was unbelievable and I was so happy I chose Children's 1st. The nursery is wonderfully diverse and they celebrate so many cultures, it's great. My daughter has developed so well at nursery and is super confident with great social skills. She built such a lovely group of friends and loved going to nursery. I would absolutely recommend Children's 1st again and again, you won't be disappointed.

My daughter started at Children 1st @ Sheffield about six months ago in the baby room and has just moved up to the toddler room this week. She absolutely loves it here and so do we. All the staff genuinely care about the children and are all so friendly. My daughter's development has come on leaps and
bounds since she's been going here. She's so happy here. The baby room has a really nice, cosy feel to it with lots of space. The outdoor facilities are fantastic, which have been a real hit with my daughter! Very highly recommend.

Highly recommend the Nursery. The level of care and compassion all staff have towards the children is fantastic. I moved my daughter from a nursery that put her well-being at risk and that decision I have not regretted. My daughter has built so much confidence in all areas of her life, she's well-mannered,
happy and loves the nursery. As a mom this decision I have not regretted. My daughter has now developed people and social skills and is the happiest since joining the nursery. Furthermore, the management and staff are what shape the nursery and they listen and act on the concerns and go a step further to assure the needs of the children are met daily. The prospect of our first baby starting nursery was a bit daunting but the whole team were brilliant from our first visit. They made our choice of nursery really easy and we haven't regretted it. The setting is lovely, the staff are lovely and approachable and as well as feeling confident that our little
one is being really well cared for (with plenty of cuddles and individualised care!) the support and reassurance for us as first time parents has been brilliant too. Even on tricky days we can relax knowing our little one is in safe hands and we're looking forward to continuing to watch her develop and thrive here.

I want to share my wonderful experience with Children 1st @ Sheffield Day Nursery. My 2.5-year-old daughter had social and delayed speaking issues but after just a few sessions at the nursery, I saw significant improvements. She has become more expressive and now fits in perfectly with her age group.
Even more impressive is her newfound love for nursery. The staff, especially her key teacher, have taken excellent care of her. I am thrilled with the progress she has made. Highly recommended!

My children love this nursery to bits. My first daughter attended this nursery and she had the best experience while she was with them. My second daughter has been with them since she turned a year old and I had to return to work. The key workers and nursery staff are super professional and lovely with
the children. The extra care and attention they give the children is something extraordinarily special. I would highly recommend this nursery to anyone looking for a safe place for their children to thrive, with good staff, fun activities and lots more. This is certainly the best place for all that and more. I hope they continue to maintain the high-level standard of care and neatness.

My son absolutely loves spending time here, the facilities and spaces to play are so good compared to other nurseries.

Our daughter started nursery here when she was 13 months old, in the Jemima Puddleducks room. From the moment we were welcomed for a viewing, we felt completely at ease. The staff are so enthusiastic about what they do - their kindness and caring nature shines through. Their knowledge and experience
has meant that we as parents feel confident that our daughter is well cared for, while her confidence continues to increase and she really looks forward to seeing what they have planned for her each day. Absolutely fabulous nursery! I would highly recommend to everyone. The staff are brilliant with my son and I never have any problems with him going in. It's such a lovely setting and well looked after. They have a chef that cooks the meals daily so they get a good variety of different home-cooked foods.
They always seem to do lots of different activities with them as well as spending lots of time outside, which my son loves!
Everybody is very welcoming and knows all the children by name. I feel so lucky to have found Children 1st @ Sheffield Day Nursery! They definitely go above and beyond and I feel very supported by them and can't imagine my son going anywhere else now.

Me and my daughter both are extremely happy with the environment provided by Children 1st @ Sheffield Day Nursery. Staff are highly skilled and professional. Very safe and secure for the kids and my daughter is enjoying every single day of nursery. Each and every staff member knows you there by your
kid's name which is really very welcoming. They teach kids to be independent with different kinds of activities which are playful as well as make them learn something new. I really appreciate the way they celebrate all the festivals with kids in a very enthusiastic manner. Staff members are also very supportive in case of any changes in terms of the daily routine of kids, you just need to tell them in advance.
I thank all the staff members for being so supportive and caring towards my daughter. She feels at home at nursery and that makes me feel very relaxed to do my chores with a free mind.

We have used Children 1st @ Sheffield Day Nursery since our little boy turned one. We have been so happy with the care and education so far and our little boy absolutely loves going there (more than being at home)! The staff are all lovely and really take care as if the children are their own. Our little
boy has come on leaps and bounds with speech and development and he eats so well there too. We instantly got a good feeling when we looked around, compared to other nurseries where we weren’t sure. It is quite expensive compared to others we have looked at but it’s worth every penny when you know your child is having such a great time and being so well looked after. We highly recommend!

From the moment I entered the nursery, I was impressed with the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable and it was clear that they genuinely cared about each and every child in their care. My kids love their time there and funny enough, don't like to leave when it's pick-up
time! The nursery provides a stimulating and safe environment that encourages learning and development, while also allowing children to explore and have fun. Nutritious meals and snacks are also provided which is a huge bonus for busy parents. Overall, I would highly recommend Children 1st @ Sheffield Day Nursery to any parent looking for a safe, welcoming and engaging environment for their little one. It is clear that the staff are dedicated to providing the best possible care for each child and my own observations of the children's happiness and enthusiasm confirm this. Job Title: Manager - Early Years Joined: 1993

My Name is Deborah Thorne and I am the Early Years Nursery Manager for Children 1st @ Sheffield.


I have been working with children since the age of 16. I qualified as a Nursery Nurse in 1993 gaining my N.N.E.B Diploma in Nursery Nursing.


I then worked as a nanny for almost 2 years having sole charge of two boys Edward and Thomas who are now 19 and 21.


I started work for Children 1st Day Nurseries in May 1996 when they purchased the nursery that I was currently working in. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to grow with the Nursery right from day one and have gained a vast amount of experience. I have worked my way up from Nursery Nurse opening the baby unit, to Room Leader then to Deputy Manager and finally on to Nursery Manager in 2000. I have worked with all ages of children and enjoy the challenges that working with different aged children bring but I especially love the Early Years age group and this has been my area of specialism for a number of years.


While I have been with Children 1st I have managed the Newark Nursery for 6 months working with the team and the new Nursery Manager to build up occupancy levels. I then managed St Peters and St Paul Nursery for 2 1/2 years which I really enjoyed as this took me out of my comfort zone and I grew in confidence and was able to develop my own skills. I then came back to the Sheffield Nursery (home) in May 2009 were I have resumed my role as Nursery Manager for the Peter Rabbits and Early Years.


Through my role as Nursery Manager I have worked with diverse cultures and families with different needs and expectations, this has given me the tools to enable me to meet their different needs and make a real difference to children's lives, one of my passions is to be able to offer high quality childcare for ALL children regardless of their status.


My role as Nursery Manager also enables me to work with children with Special Education Needs (SEN) and become a linchpin with families and other members of my Nursery Team, giving our children the best start to their nursery education regardless of their abilities or needs.


I have also built a strong team who I work very closely with and feel I am a good role model to all staff members. I am a qualified NVQ Assessor and gained my Level 4 in Childcare and Education, I enjoy this very much and hope to continue to support all the trainee Nursery Nurses that train with us.


I became a Nursery Manager by chance as I had no desire to become one, I was more than happy being a Nursery Nurse and enjoyed the role as key worker to my children but through a passion for my work and the investment of Margaret I was encouraged to move up the ladder. I enjoy the challenges that being a Nursery Manager brings and feel that over the last 15 years that I have worked for Children 1st Day Nurseries I have gained so much and been able to give so much back.


I believe in the ethos of Children 1st Day Nurseries and am fully committed to our mission statement of: ‘Leading the way, shaping the future’ and providing high quality day care and education, my role as a Nursery Manager enables me to ensure that the children who use our setting are receiving the very best and I can ensure the quality is there all of the time this is why I have stayed with Children 1st Day Nurseries and will continue to stay until I am old and grey (if you let me)


I like lots of things about Children 1st Day Nurseries - the dedication to our small babies that we insist on, the quality environments, the sleeping outside in proper prams, the play experiences that the teams offer, the drive and passion of our teams and the on going commitment that we have to achieving the best that we can be.


I always feel proud when I attend outside training events as I know that out provision is up there with the best.


I hope I inspire other Nursery Nurses to be passionate and proud of the work that we do, and encourage new families to make that brave first step of bringing their children to nursery for the first time to start the education of their children.
