Little Achievers Forest School Nursery

Ramsgreave Hall Farm, Higher Ramsgreave Road, Ramsgreave, Blackburn BB1 9DQ

Little Achievers Forest School Nursery is situated within 120 acres of farmland and makes the most of an attractive and interesting location in which to encourage early years learning and activities.

While offering an excellent Early Years Education through inspiration from the Reggio Emilia Approach; and care for children age two to four-years-old, the nursery also has its own specialised baby unit. All children are looked after by fully-qualified professionals. The nursery has its own chef and a range of extracurricular activities are available - including access to Forest School Nursery, swimming and performing, shaking and moving.

All pre-school children within the nursery are able to access forest school sessions within their timetable of nursery attendance.

Children experience accelerated learning techniques in a unique environment and develop a new range of skills, communication and improved health and personal development by spending time learning outdoors. This regular time spent in changing outdoor spaces and the accompanying reflective practice, develops a child's resilience and reframes a child's own view of risk.

Providing realistic challenges for children and allowing them to work through tasks themselves supports their development; actively engaging them to understand themselves and each other, promoting communication, problem-solving and social skills.

Online learning journey for all children is offered where parents can securely log in to the system via smartphone, PC tablet etc to see the progress their child is making at nursery via photographs, video recordings and written comments/communication.

Little Achievers Forest School Nursery also offers before and after-school care (pick-up and collection from local schools) and holiday care for children up to age 11 years.

  • b) The score for the number of positive Reviews is 4.7 out of 5 from 11 positive Reviews in the last 12 months.

Detailed Breakdown

  • a) 5 Points are available for the Average Rating of all Reviews over all time. For each review the Day Nursery / service is rated Excellent, Good, Satisfactory, Poor or Very Poor on a number of areas eg Staff, Management etc. The Day Nursery receives points for each rating as follows: Excellent = 5. Good = 4. Satisfactory = 3. Poor = 2. Very Poor = 1. These points are added up and then divided by the total number of completed ratings to generate the average rating.

    The Average Rating of 4.801 for Little Achievers Forest School Nursery is calculated as follows: ( (157 Excellents x 5) + (32 Goods x 4) + (1 Satisfactorys x 3) + (1 Very Poors x 1) ) ÷ 191 Ratings = 4.801

  • b) 5 Points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 12 months. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. A Positive Review is defined as any Review with 'Extremely Likely' or 'Likely' in answer to the question 'How likely are you to recommend this Day Nursery to friends and family?'

The 5 points available are broken down as follows:

    1. 4 points are available for the first 5 Positive Reviews, 3 points for the first Positive Review and then 0.25 Points for each of the next 4 Positive Reviews.

    2. 1 point is available for reaching a target number of Positive Reviews based on 20% of the number of registered maximum number of service users. If the target is partially reached then that proportion of 1 point is given. eg a Day Nursery with 50 registered maximum number of service users has a target of 10 Positive Reviews, if it has 10 or more Positive Reviews it will receive 1 point, if it has 7 reviews will receive 0.7 points.

    3. If there are no Positive Reviews in the last 12 months, then 2.5 points are available for the number of Positive Reviews in the last 2 years. The calculation is the same as above, except the points are divided by 2.

The 4.733 Points relating to the number of positive Reviews for Little Achievers Forest School Nursery is based on 11 positive Reviews in the last 12 months and is calculated as follows:

    1. 3 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 + 0.25 = 4

    2. Target of 15 positive Reviews (75 registered maximum number of service users ÷ 5). 11 Reviews ÷ 15 Target = 0.733

  • When a Review is submitted by someone who has previously submitted a Review, only the latest Review will count towards the Review Score.

Little Achievers Forest School Nursery has been a lovely experience for both me and my 2yr old son. Since the day he started he has enjoyed all his sessions. He has become a more confident little boy and has learnt so many new skills.
The nursery is set in a very quiet location on a farm in a very peaceful environment. My son loves to see the sheep that are out and about before he starts.
The staff are great and have always been nothing but friendly. I'm currently pregnant with my 2nd child and will be sure to send my son to this nursery.

My daughter attends Little Achievers 3 days a week. During that time I am confident that my daughter is in good hands whilst I am work. The staff are brilliant and make the children feel comfortable when with them. I would strongly recommend this nursery.

After a difficult decision of whether to hire a childminder or look at registering her with a nursery, I'm happy we made the right choice. The nursery has such a home from home feel to it, all the staff are lovely, and they all go the extra mile to make sure the children are happy. There are lots of cuddles! The setting is idyllic. Our little girl loves saying hello and bye bye to the sheep. It's still early days with her, but she is gradually getting more and more connected to the staff. I often talk about them at home and she nods and smiles, and says 'hello'. The environment of the nursery is also great, it is lovely seeing them all playing together, and has a very open plan feel. I think they learn more from different age groups. Thank you to all the staff, it's very difficult and daunting for the little ones if it's their first time away from home, equally as daunting for parents! I feel extremely reassured though.

We have found that the kids love all the staff they have contact with. That is the main criteria as far as we are concerned. It is great that there is a way for them to learn whilst enjoying themselves. Having friends and family in the teaching profession has given us a rather cynical view of the way OFSTED reports on facilities like this. It is only through our own experience that we can say the nursery is a perfect balance of play, learning, security and emotional support. The whole team should be proud of themselves because it is them that make it such a well rounded setting.

A very friendly, welcoming nursery that my child enjoys attending. The staff have worked very hard to foster a close relationship with my child and as a result, she feels safe and loves attending.
Would definitely recommend for prospective parents.

My daughter has been attending Little Achievers since she was 9 months old (now 3) for 2 days a week. All the staff are very kind and caring and have taken the time to get to know her.
My daughter looks forward to her time at nursery and always comes home singing and chattering about the things she has been doing and all her friends. Highly recommend.

My daughter is very happy to attend here and always has lots to say about what activities she has done that day. I receive emails with photos and feel like I am kept up to date with what she is doing.
Communication with the manager is good and my daughter seems very comfortable with the staff and her key worker.

My daughter has been going to Little Achievers Forest School Nursery since summer 2015 and my younger daughter is due to start next month. The staff have always been fantastic with my elder daughter and she loves her time at nursery. There is a great range of activities for the children to participate in and the setting is fantastic too - we often have to stop to look at the sheep when I pick her up!

My daughter loves coming to Little Achievers. Her key workers are great, very caring and committed to keeping all the children involved and happy in the setting. The location is perfect for a Forest School and the children love going outside and playing on the swing on the tree, or looking for bugs and insects.

Little Achievers Forest School Nursery is absolutely fantastic! My son loves coming into nursery. The nursery staff and management are excellent and the EYELOG app is great for checking the daily progress of my son and viewing regular videos and pictures of what he is doing is superb!

My son had a speech delay and it is so satisfying to see him flourish, the staff have been great at helping him with his development and it is such a pleasure to see how much he has improved.

The nursery is situated on a farm, so you get spectacular views of the surrounding farmland. It is a pleasure seeing the sunrise on a cold winter morning.

There is a comment about the track leading into the nursery but that has now been fixed.

I would class Little Achievers Forest School Nursery as a hidden gem in Blackburn and would highly recommend it to anybody thinking of sending their child there.

My son has settled into nursery really well with the support of the friendly staff. The staff are very welcoming and approachable, it is nice to see staff from different ethnic backgrounds working together to ensure all the children's needs are being met. The nursery has a lovely outdoors space with a beautiful view of the farm. We are very happy with the repairs of the track and look forward to seeing my son grow up and join in all the fantastic extracurricular activities at nursery.

My experience with nursery staff is brilliant. They are so helpful and are doing a fab job. It's just a shame a male member of staff had to leave because I know the children enjoyed being around him. My boy especially missed him when he left and he still remembers him.

However I am disappointed in management. I have mentioned the access road to nursery on numerous occasions and I have had the same reply that the repairs are imminent. My child has been at the nursery for two years now and I haven't seen any work being carried out. It's just a shame because I feel if I miss a payment you would be quick to act but on the access road there is no progress. At the same time you have lost business because I have recommended your nursery to friends and family but due to the access road they have chosen another nursery. Totally disappointing - I have considered to mention this on your Facebook.

Sharon Alexander, CEO/Founder/Owner at Little Achievers Forest School Nursery responded to this review on 17 Jul 2016:

Fantastic that you enjoyed the care and education received for your little boy at our nursery. We are always delighted to have feedback. One of the reasons customers choose our nursery is because of its uniqueness, based within 120 acres of beautiful farmland. We have access to the nursery, situated within the farm yard, via a farm track - of which we have no authority from the farmer to alter, it is a track with a speed limit of 5 miles per hour (Love driving down the track when the lambs have just been born) The farmer is doing drainage repairs at the moment, and has been for a while - so I would expect maintenance to be carried out after that.
Little Achievers Forest School Nursery is also the top nursery in Ribble Valley on daynurseries.co.uk.
It was very sad when our male staff member left, he had worked for Rosy Apple for a long time. However, he wanted a career change and to spend more time with his own daughter. It is very difficult to recruit men in to childcare - we are always on the lookout. Thank you

My son (9 months) comes 2 days a week and absolutely loves it. The staff are extremely friendly, the outside area is incredible.
